No, no Carl Sagan has the date wrong. It's not Jan 1. According to the founder of Scientology L. Ron Hubbard, the dictator of the "Galactic Confederacy" Xenu who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of his people to Earth in a DC-8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes and killed them using hydrogen bombs. He used the IRS to gather the people. That religion seeks to preserve us from nuclear destruction. Source Wikipedia Who is more wacky, Hubbard or Sagan?
Excellent! I say, good show! I'm favoring these videos to a new Playlist on my channel. But I'm watching each one in it's entirety before I favor the next one, so I'll be up all night adding each one to my newest Playlist. The first time I saw these videos on the internet was at Hulu.com, but they had commercials in them. This is the third time I have watched COSMOS, and I shall never tire of watching it. I learn more each time. Oh! And I love the music. Nobody can ever top this!
Does anyone know if the 4 people who flunked this class are the same 4 who flunked the last one? But the thing I'm really wondering is what excuse they gave their mommy's and their friends for this..
As a teacher, he had the ability to make complex issues easy. At the same time he was someone you would be happy to have over to to your house for dinner because instinctively you know that he was also a great friend. His peers in the science community who bad mouthed him should be ashamed of themselves for even thinking about saying negative things about such a great guy who had so much compassion for his fellow man.
Thanks for uploading this series! It's better than on Hulu 'cause there's no commercials! I've been watching it, and realized that all this episode is is about science triumphing over pseudoscience. That's the best evr!
PS My nickname in real life is 'Spoony'. It comes from being able to do Uri Geller's stupid spoon-bending trick, and also because only one of my spoons was not stolen by meth heads, which I found on the ground outside the crackhouse I used to live at. Fun times...
Imagine the old scientists of the forgotten past spending their life studying the sky… They would kill just have the astronomic knowledge that any kid can learn today by watching the Cosmos series.
We are so lucky to live in an age of science. The sad thing about our time is (it seems to me) few people are interesting in knowing even the ABC of physics.
@German1184 "We live in a society absolutely dependent on science and technology and yet have cleverly arranged things so that almost no one understands science and technology." - Carl Sagan, from an interview with Anne Kalosh.
@German1184 Dude this series got me interested in biology and creation, I have always been agnostic but now it all makes so much more sense in it's design and ironically it makes me less inclined to be an atheist. I think Buddhism is the religion I admire the most.

Just some thoughts...
As far as Astrology, it is a universal truth you are influenced by your environment. How much more so by the heavens? However, daily horoscopes are a sham!!! There is very much some truth to Astrology. It is just a very secret and hidden knowledge. Much has knowledge been throughout history.
One of the greatest series made about science, this is the vanguard of programs designed to help promote the lvoe of science. Carkl Sagan is missed, at least we are lucky enough to be able to watch this whenever we like.
@Dracopol I think they have held up, as far as I know not much has been nullified. Some things have been built upon and clarified, but I think this series is more relevant if anything now then then. People in general seem to be less scientifically inclined and the general knowledge of science in North America has gone down. That's scary to me on so many levels, there has been a huge "brain drain" tout of the USA and Canada.
@NotDuncan : I have told this a lot; human self-consciousness cannot be explained by mean of natural laws or randomness because it is volitional, it means, it posses will. Besides, it is not possible prevent philosophical explanation because nothing does not originate nothing, therefore eternity exists. The all is eternal, only finite things are originate by another things. Atheism is impossible.
@Leivinn20 I personally can't explain self-consciousness, but Sam Harris does quite well as a matter of fact. On top of that even if it couldn't be explained right now doesn't automatically make it proof of magic. Only religions claim nothing came from nothing, science seeks an explanation.
How do you explain an expanding universe, evolution, entropy and every other law that has shrunk the 'god of gaps'? Atheism is the only choice that a thinking person can make.
@NotDuncan As far as I know, the usual argument to try to explain self-consciousness is "the matter is self-coordinated, therefore, brain complexity is self-coordinated. The consciousness a virtual result coming from a material entity called brain"...do you want that me respond this argument???.
@NotDuncan Nobody can't prove all points of his/her own world-view, neither can to create all elements of reality, therefore, all world-views contains "gods of gaps". however, the universe is one or unitarian per definition, therefore, the best world-view exists. Time, random, natural selection are gods of atheism
@NotDuncan: Atheism is a religion which rejects any Supreme Being existence, but in its place, puts Time, random, natural selection and other gods to try keep such premise. Keep in mind "gods" means supernatural cause.
@Leivinn20 Time, random, natural selection are NATURAL not supernatural. Well A hypothesis is a proposed explanation for a phenomenon. Once enough data is collected the hypothesis is either tossed away, refined or proven to be true. If it's found to be true it becomes a theory. You say ' Atheism is a religion which rejects any Supreme Being existence' well I say Religion is a set of beliefs that rejects logical thinking.
@NotDuncan Let me add: ¿are theories true because these are based on data, or are data true because these are based on theories?...now the question: have you seen any time life originated spontaneously? (I mean, by mean of natural laws, without intelligent intervention). You made a decision in relation to evolution.
@NotDuncan: Any human being can escape from any idea, but it is not possible to escape from own nature. Human being is religious by nature...look around through your window. "Atheists" have been trying to escape from God, instead of this, they founded another religion.
@Leivinn20 As for us being religious by nature, we are also violent by nature. So what? does that mean we should revel in violence or should we strive to better ourselves as individuals and a species?
@NotDuncanyet look. theres being aware of god and being unaware.
most religious fucks are unaware of god and would kill their own family just for a second of that awareness.
atheists is the logical rape and destruction of these religious fucks who have no clue about god.
theres those who awaken.those who experienced god.when it happens. you know that you know that you know.. you laugh and laugh and laugh because it is it and youre there and you hadnt realised before.i know stuff you would cry
The second half of this episode (the Kepler story) was filmed in the Czech republic?
