Apparently the reason why Celestia's a princess is because Hasbro forced hem to make her one because of the whole "evil queen, good princess" stereotype (she'd be a queen otherwise). Also, fans argue that Celestia only giving two tickets was secretly a batman gambit meant to supply Twilight with another friendship lesson. Lastly, maybe the tickets themselves are enchanted with a charm that allows them to follow their owners.

I got the feeling that there was NO planned rainshower because Rainbow Dash was the one who caused it in the first place. I see her collecting clouds very quickly over Twilight but leaving a gap just for her. Like Person A paying person B to threaten Person C and Person A saving Person C from Person B.

Equestria could be a principality, like Monaco, thus making Celestia's rank of Princess be the highest attainable. Either that or Hasbro is hoping to cash in on the princess niche in the toy biz created by Disney. And if that is the case, why aren't we seeing more of Luna?? How will they sell her toys if she doesn't get any screen time?

I think she was only sent 2 tickets because it was a basic mass-invitation. Send 1 ticket for each person on a list of names and 1 extra for a guest.

Considering how Celestia acts, I doubt she would've been the one individually sending out those letters and was more likely done by secretaries or assistants. Also, since the Gala is a formal event, it wouldn't be something that a pony would bring all their friends to and instead would be something to bring a formal guest to.

One of my first thoughts of this episode was "Hey, Celestia knows full well that Twilight JUST made five new friends. Why did she only send two tickets?"

I've come to the conclusion that Celestia either has an outstandingly bad memory, or is just kind of a bitch.

Lauren Faust said Celestia was going to be a queen but Hasbro made her change it to cash in on the whole disney princess thing Also Dash was the one who caused the rain storm and the tickets themselves were magic that's why they floated.

I always figured that Celestia had only sent one extra ticket as a way of covertly teaching Twilight more about Friendship/Friendship magic. After all, she is Twilight's teacher, and she used similar tactics in the opening episodes.

One thing about the tickets, they're sent by-as you call her-a God. So yeah, magic IS a rather good reason for them to know which pony is which and the floating bits.

You mentioned the confusion over Celestia's title and just thought I 'd share Faust's response. "I was told that . . . girls assume that Queens are evil and Princesses are good. I was also told that the perceived youth of a Princess is preferable to consumers." I have the full screen cap of the discussion if anyone wants to see it.

@ObsessionOctopus I understand your statement, however, Lauren Faust has admitted that, although her show is geared towards girls (as Powepuff Girls was, I believe) she designed it to be enjoyed by ALL ages. Not all european countries where ruled by kings and queens you know. Only kingdoms. There where also Principalities ruled by princes/princesses, Duchies, ruled by Dukes/Duchesses, etc. It's only from the British system (the royal heir being the prince of Wales) that we get the whole "if the king's dead then your not a princess any more" attitude.

As for sending only two tickets, my first inclination is that she sent it to Twilight with Spike as the intended guest. Spike doesn't want to go, so....

Either that, or she just mass mailed the invitations, and didn't think about modifying the invitations.

@tailsnick From Tsuki - It didn't feel that obvious to myself when we were shooting either actually. We sat down and tried to think of this episode in that mindset and hoped it came out right.
