  • It is active sonar, but it's a LONG way away.

  • that's whales

  • You mug that's your regulator wheezing. I'd get it serviced if I were you before you have an accident.

  • sounds more like a whale

  • Good thing the sub wasnt too close...its an easy way to get your bell rang underwater by a pinging sub.

  • thanks for this

  • at 1:22 you can hear it clearly. its the active sonar from an american ship i think. this kind of fm impulse do the us. navy use to identify special characteristics of certan submarine hulls. i've heard they have made such a sonar "song" for nearly every russian sub out there.

  • It's not boring but I couldn't hear the sonar, or distinguish

  • Hi. I'm 'spearoAL' cant log in however since google linked accounts.......

I heard almost identical sounds in Falmouth, Cornwall whilst night spearfishing. We don't get whales here so I'm fairly sure its Submarine Sonar. I know they do a fair amount of sub training missions around here. I'll edit the footage and upload to demonstrate. We had an issue a while back where by a load of Dolphins stranded themselves up the river systems and perished, no doubt its probably connected!

  • 1:23

  • Not sonar... sounds like audio feedback from an underwater diver's comm system. Something electrical. Not whale's either. You can hear some whale song up to 3,000 nm! So you would have no problem hearing a pod of whales nearby.

  • 39,000!! weew

  • Yes it is SONAR from a whale. SOund NAvigation and Ranging.

  • I am surprised that you didn't beach yourself.

  • its a humpback...

  • meh ... whales

  • none of those sounds were sonar, just a lot of biologics from whales.

  • Biologic....

  • Biologic....

  • If I was underwater and heard a submarine coming I would shit myself.

  • @heathinv i think i would be beyond shitting myself

  • ure right ther must have been a sumbmarine in ure presence

  • Not the right type of modulation for sonar. Its marine mammal.

  • Megaptera novaeangliae (biological) One of my favorites, the Humpback whale.

Followed a pod in the 60's with the USS Tautog SSN 639

recorded hours of the whale song you have hear. Great posting, thanks.

  • Yep, sounds like whales to me mate.

  • where is the radar sound? the movement of the rudder of the boat, an elevator, an electric motor starting and stopping, some chains ....... I did not hear a tactical or military radar

one day you hear and you will notice ;)

  • sounded like a whale to me, yes it was high pitched but they are capable of high frequency sounds too, as well as low

  • If that is military sonar, the ship is far, FAR away. You might have heard it due to a CV (Convergence Zone) :) Military sonar freq levels cannot be determined from this video.

  • There are two occurrences (01:33 and near the end) of linear frequency swept sounds similar to military tactical sonar, not whales. The sounds are not typical of military sonar either, as these are near 1.5 kHz, while most tactical sonars are near 3 kHz.
