@nibbler2012 It was filmed in early October, too early to be called winter. If it was winter in Norway you would know it :) Remember we're even further north than the inhabited parts of Canada. Oh, and most of the film shows beautiful green scenery.

After downloading the entire 7 hours I must say it is breathtaking. I didn't think you could top the Swiss Alps for scenery but I think this might do it. You run out of superlatives. Surprised how barren/treeless the countryside is! Is this because it is high in the mountains or the result of deforestation?

I think It is more to do with how far north it is.

The sun is glancing the surface at a different angle so there likely isn't enough light to support tree growth.

Also in places like this there will be quite high winds that will flatten any trees that attempt to grow.

Another factor could be deer eating young trees and preventing growth.

Forestry if cut would be replanted.

It's above the tree level. This is at about 1000 meters above sea level in Norway. The climate is too rough for trees to live.
