Ive had a garmin 1490t for 2 years and i have been lots of places using it to get me there as far as eastern germany, Even allows me to take address from google and transfer it straight onto my set which is good, The only pissoff is they want 74 quid for the newest updates which after paying over 200 for it, sucks. But its better than my navman and the big screen is great it even shows up speed cameras.
@edwina22 I have the 1490 LMT almost the same model and if you go to their site you should be able to download everything, it takes time, I did it overnight but you should get everything for free with Garmin, I thought that that was the company policy, a life-time of free back-ups
but from what i can hear...it is only the x2 GPS unit just giving directions of how many metres on what freeway to get off....... nothing important really.
i think the guy was just showing you what it looks like in a visual comparison of the Advanced Lane Guidance feature of both products
I think, with both located there is rather obtrusive for clear sight of vision but anyway, I went through that myself once until I innovate my own solution. Will show it in another clip of mine someday soon. My Tom Tom 950 Live, is excellent in Europe and in Asia too but I found my Nuvi 1490TV equally amazing with the Eco Route feature. Works only in EU and USA. I will soon have the 3790T and will see how that one puts up when 3D landmark & voice command takes over...:) TQ for this short clip.
Unclear abt what you meant with "flatscreen" however, on a much smaller scale, the screen itself are indeed flat but as far as thickness goes with the overal size of a GPS unit, both of mine are considerably flatter than the other model which I still have i.e. the TomTom 910 GO with 20Gb internal storage!! Google for the dimensions of the units concerned to know if they are flat enough for you. I think the Nuvi 3790T is a current improvement & delight to have... :)
On the other hand, remember, when driving, TTS is actually the most favored feature to hear with an occasional quick glimpse of the screen. Having too large a screen doesn't alter or improve yr driving or knowing yr way about, on the contrary, it is an unsafe distraction & hinder to visibility if located above dashboard in an obtrusive manner. Using a modest size like a 12" notebook is another option for yr GPS guidance given a suitable OS like the GMPC from Garmin. Cheers 2U...
@eeiko321 I have nothing against Asia. I was trying to show what this language sounded like to me. It shouldn't have been considered as offensive comment in any way.
im guessing that you intended it to be funny, well in my opinion...IT IS...in fact... offensive. would you walk up to someone you dont know and say that?
@hopala007 yes tomtom is easy but quality wise...its crap. ive owned 3 tomtoms over the years.
they crack at the pivot point of the suction, because it keeps dropping. now the USB port is stuffed because the pivot is weak. it moved around whilst the cable was permanantly IN.
i just bought a Garmin 3790T.
all i can say is...ive been MISSING OUT all these bloody years.
I SWEAR never to buy a TOMTOM again..(Even with thier new GO1000 series)
@eeiko321 Recently I purchased a TomTom Via180 only to return it back to the store in 4 days becasue I found a few flaws in it. 1. The Touch screens sensitivity is pretty poor, i thought my product was faulty so i tested the stores products and it was still the same. Their are a few problems with the voice recognition software, most dont work while your navigating 3. Not all bluetooth devices work on the via 180, although my phone was the latest. Any Suggestion on a GPS before I buy another?
@TurkishSuperGuy i have always owned a TOMTOM over a period of approx 4 years. GO720, G0730 & GO920.
they are indeed crap, they dont look as good as the new Garmins.
biggest problem is the Suction pivot device, its weak & drops all the time. and will eventually crack the pivot. causing it to be weak when mounted, jiggling away.
over the easter long weekend i purchased a Garmin Nuvi series... at 9mm thick..the thinnest GPS in the world
@eeiko321 i recommend you think of how much you want to spend...and look at the available options between each GPS brand.
using my Nuvi 3700 for a few days, i wont be able to comment too much.
but put it this way, i swear NEVER to buy a TOMTOM ever again.
and since i seen the previous model NAVMANs.... the inferior, drummy, empty shell feeling..when holding the device in the hand... id stay well away from them.,..
@eeiko321 I have been using street maps all these years but i thought i might get a navigator so it can find the fastest route for me, and it does work. But the problem is the lack of reliability of these GPS gadgets. I heard a lot of stories of some brands playing up over the months. I would probably get the Cheapest entry level GPS so you wont burn your money over the long period and use it when necessary. I read up on Garmin reviews, their not really up to scratch but their not bad either.
@eeiko321 I found the more expensive a GPS the more flaws it has, for example a simple entry navigator with simple route calculation is often the best and easy to use, the more you climb the ladder the worst it gets. Maps upates is not so good on Navigators as it gets rid of previous instructions and alerts and sometimes backroads, so its best to keep your navigator for a few years and when it dies get a new device which is automatically updated by manufacturers default. Pivot usely wears out.

where do you think your mobile phone was made?... your garmin...your tomtom...?
also...your TV, your monitor, your computer, your gaming console, your shoes, your clothes, your fridge, your microwave, parts in your car???
and whats more... "si si ya chang chong cho cho yuoah" (china) owns $892.2 BILLION dollars of U.S DEPT!!!!
