Hagler had tons of skill. He didnt have exceptional speed but what a punch, what guts and balls and possibly the greatest chin ever. Look at that neck and those tree trunks for legs. Natural shock absorbers.
hagler totaly got robbed against leonard. leonard didnt hurt him once and hagler beat him up. i dont get what people liked about leonard. i wish hgler had been around during roy jones and bernard hopkins primes cause he would have fucked those guys up.
I am a big fan of hagler he was the best middleweight of all time and was a no frills fighter no fancyness just a fighting machine . And this fight just summs hagler up just no quit in him , just a warrior never taking a back step. John mugabi was a real toigh nut and gave his all in this fight . Great fighf.
@theSKOL1 Hagler is the only fighter I would pick over Ray Robinson. He fought his way to the top and finally got the credit he deserve when he fought Tommy Hearns.
A big big Hagler Fan and to be honest this fight really did take alot out of both fighters, however Hagler was past his prime and was on the wrong side of 30 but as for Magabi - he was sort of stopped short in his prime with Hagler, as he was never the same fighter again after this fight, I really miss these old type middles - they just dont come through anymore - its all glitz an glamour now - enough to make ya Puke up !
Hagler was the supreme warrior a master craftsman a ruthless fighting machine. He was the greatest middleweight of all time.He had no razzamatazz just honest raw savagery between the ropes. What a true longevity world boxing championship should be.MARVELOUS!!!
I am also a huge fan of Marvin Hagler another one of the toughest fighters I've ever seen. Another boxer who was ripped off but to his credit he said, "No More". I hope retirement is keeping you well Marvin. And to all the fight fans who do not see the aftermath -- Yes! What a fight! -- And Yes I am still a fight fan.
John Mugabi is a personal friend. He lives in Australia now. He is a gentleman and is now unfortunately "a bit punch-drunk". He helped my wife immensely in her boxing career and was a reason she did so well. He was a fantastic fighter who, like a lot of other fighters, never had the right management and guidance and was ripped off for millions. You only have to watch this fight to see his talent, fighting spirit and toughness. I tip my hat to you John and understand now why you are like you are.
BS, you notice when Marv Albert..or whoever, asked Tommy Hearns a question about Hagler and Gil "Idiot" clancy had to answer...Most media were against Hagler....and quite frankly, I,m cluless as to why. Except to say they were old white assholes....don't fret friends, I'm white...LOL ....Hagler was the best.
haglers fought in some of the best matches ever. Hearns Hagler is probally gotta be the most memorable or, hagler duran hagler leonard which i still think hagler should of won.Whenever watching this dude fight its like every punch you throw at him he would just keep coming at you like nothing ever happend. No ones been able to stun hagler accept for hearns in the 1st round of there 1st fight. People say hagler took beatings, no lol he delivered the beatings just ask hearns and duran :D.
I wanted hagler to win the leonard fight, but it was pretty clear after 2 rounds that hagler wasn't going to win a boxing match with leonard. After 2 rounds I thought, Hagler better forget about the boxing match and go for the KO, quick.
this fight ruined hagler far more than the hearns fight the year before - Marvins toughest fight and he left a lot of himself in the ring that night - this finished mugabi totally ,, after this fight leonard saw hagler was on the slide and saw a window of opportunity - hagler beat leonard 6 to 5 and 1 even but like larry holmes , hagler was not a 'vegas' fighter like leonard the media darling was... a pre hearns hagler had leonard pissing himself in fear - so did Aarron pryor !!!
you are 100% correct. Leonard actually told Hagler in 1982 that he would not fight Hagler ever. Leonard waited 5 years to fight hagler after hagler had slowed. I'm pretty sure leonard was watching the mugabi vs. hagler fight and was just licking his chops. He knew hagler wasn't the same fighter
no doubt marvin hugler is the best pound for pound out there well for the history of boxing, but that dude mugabi he got the iron chin ever, come on this is marvin hugler he fought and he took a hell lot of beating, i give him my respect......
Hagler....the last great Black boxer. ( American ). All they do now is hug, jab, run, push, hold.

holy shit what a round 6
i forgot what a war that was
Hagler had the best chin of his era...maybe ever...
Mugabi was a knockout artist and hit Hagler with everything he got and Hagler just kept coming..coming..coming
Same with the Hearns..Walked through it all and finished him off
The best...
