i think the Kindle may currently have better software, the nook has better hardware, so i think overall the kindle may be better right now but in 2-3 months i think the nook will be better for sure so i would go with the nook
The nook is a WAY better device, you can side load all your ebooks and get tons on free books online in addition to reading your PDF files. That means tons of free books, if you get a Kingle you will need to buy every book from them. Nook is a way better buy and worth the extra money for more features, you can also load MP3s onto Nook if you wish. If you put that together with the Android software it makes it an easy choice.
This nook could be a problem. The problem is that yes it's a good device I like how it looks but the problem lies in that small color screen. While you read, your eyes may focus on the bright colors. That, could be a small problem unless that screen turns off and turn on again while you touch it. Like say a small time delay before it goes off again. Then yea its all good.
you can buy the book through another device that could connect to the internet or w/e, but the Nook only downloads directly from the B&N ebook library.
Draw breaker for me between the Kindle 2 & the Nook is:
Spirit > At&t
Plus Kindle 2 has international 3G coverage in pretty much everywhere. Not sure if you have seen the At&t international coverage map but it sucks. So I'm scared will it really not have that much "wireless service" like the iphone.
Is the nook compatible with other types of ebooks? for instance those from whispernet (like the kindle) or adobe epub books that you can download from a library?
Great review, better than I could find on barnes and noble's website (?). I saw your spot on fox business regarding the Nook. You are one of the few shining stars in the infinite void that is "Fox News". Keep up the great work.
I read the specs, and this part really grabbed me:
The 11.2-ounce Nook (7.7 x 4.9 x .5 inches) has 2 Gbytes of internal memory, enough for about 1,500 titles. It also has a MicroSD slot that can dramatically increase capacity. A 16-Gbyte card can hold an additional 17,500 e-books. The device runs a variation of the Android operating system, but currently doesn't support any third party apps.
over 17K books on a 16Gig SD card. That's more than I read in a month!
The Kindle 1 has the SD card slot which can take any SD card size - The Kindle 1 does what I want - provide a convenient way for me to store books on a wonderful reading device.
Clayton - do you think that this will be a better alternative or should one wait for Plastic Logic's launch of Que? It seems like this has a lot of great features, but Que seems to be able to offer .doc(x) format which may be more helpful... As I think you've seen both, what's your take? Which looks better from a promo out of gate stand point?
I think Barnes and Noble offers an ecosystem that no one else can offer at this point. The store, the sharing, playing with the device before you buy it, etc. I'd like to see how the Que shapes up next this device. I'm really impressed with it, but it is running Android and it did appear a little sluggish on the color display. I thought scrolling through books would be faster.
by that, I'm guessing you mean the Nook was slower? (or the Que?)... I guess I'm trying to figure out which one I would use more, and since you can do more with the Que, that's kind of how I was leaning... but the Nook has that new tech smell, so it's kind of a confusing feeling right now... are you going to CES 2010?
