@MrVVheatley yes, I would think they used 3 so they would have different tones to choose from while mixing. either that or they could use the 2 outer mics to add depth to the overall sound (wide panned left and right vocal channels with the main mic centered)
make me flying ! What a bore the version they played in Letterman's !!!!!!The Letterman-TV-version is perfectly "decorated" with Susan tiny little braids.....
@MEGAMIGA derek trucks is not probably one of the greatest slide players in the history of guitar. he is the greatest electric slide player in the history of guitar.
HAHA, Herbie couldn't do it without giving his fucking great personnal touch, awesome :) I like the way he and the guitarist do their improvisation, so innovate, haaaa
Such groove! Vinnie is not only one of the best in history technically, but I think that the groove he manages to produce with the drumset is just unveliable. I love the song too!
@ABreathlessOblivion lol a guy who obviously listens to The Black Dahlia Murder just dissed me for listening to Metal Core? Really man TBDM was one of the lead in's to the genre. At no point did I diss your music nor did i diss any music, I love all music. But i guess haters gona hate, right?
That's a tough claim to disagree with but I've always been awe-struck by Bill Bruford (and many others), but I think if forced to choose... yeah, I'd pick Bruford. This is great stuff though, isn't it? I've been enjoying alot of Herbie's collaborations lately. Respect from Michigan.
yes, I would say this snare might be an ayotte . I've never had the opportunity to play one. of course the way his snare was tuned plays a huge role. vinnie certainly had many various snares behind during recording but his or producers decision to grab this one was simply smart. anyway my next snare on my baying-list is a BRADY jarrah ply. thanks for responding, mate!
hi guys, does anybody know what snare drum vinnie is playing here? please, help me, i've been looking for this sound for years!!!!!! by the way this tune is pure musical orgasm- yea, vinnie&co, please more of it!!!
@thekickarthur that looks like an Ayotte brand snare drum. Wood hoops, probably single ply coated head, and NO muffling. Vinnie controls the ringiness by where he hits the drum!
"A novice will take something easy and make it look complicated. A master will take something complicated and make it look easy." -Neil Peart about Freddy Gruber
I love how as the call-and-response goes on, Derek Trucks gets more and more into that zone of his. Each response sounds more intense than the last one.
@TheKogunEnjou the call and response is great. herbie throws a very jazzy lick down and trucks takes that and turns it into just a buttery smooth blues riff. susan's voice reminds me a lot of bonnie rait
If Vinnie keeps playing like this, some people might even start to think that he's a better drummer than Neil Peart. Hahahaha! Or Joey Jordison. Hahahahah! Vinnie is so killer, unbelievable. The little lick coming back in at around 5:45 is simple, yet so crazy good it's not even funny.
Vinnie Coliauta is the consummate professional drummer. He alters his playing for whatever situation he is playing in. Derek is inspiring and Herbie continues to defy his age.
@ciamonkey This happened to me about 20 years ago. :) No need to give anything up, but check out Joe Cocker and Leon Russell doing it with Mad Dogs and Englishman
@theatlantisrise Well, aren't you high and mighty. There's good music in every style. I'm into metal core too and I understand that better than you apparently.

Fantastic! Susan Tedeschi even has a salute to Joe Cocker with the crippled-hand-air-guitar gestures. Though I must admit i prefer Leon's licks to Herbie's hands.
@fians4k HMMM ... so it sounds great, but it isnt breaking new harmonic and rhythmic ground so you think it has no value??? @solidcitizen2 Absolutely man, I totally agree when I saw that comment, each musician is breaking 'expressive' ground in this video and then energy that exists is recording is fucking excellent from start til end!
