Thank you. I have been trying to figure out a way to make this easier on the dancers I am teaching. They are not experts and cannot keep both legs straight and get height on the jump. This has been a HUGE help and it actually looks better in our modern dance. Thank you again, I love your videos!
This is a switch leap for modern. Every jazz class I take teaches them with straight legs. But every modern teacher has done them this way. It's just different.
Where I agree with everyone about this NOT being a switch leap, this IS how to start training for one, until you have enough leg power to keep both legs straight.
im with DMATwirler589 you r suppose to keep both feet straight and have a running start considering it is a leap not a jump i kno what im talkin about too im a gymnast so maybe you should redo this video and make it more accurate...
im with DMATwirler589 you r suppose to keep both feet straight and have a running start considering it is a leap not a jump i kno what im talkin about too im a gymnast so maybe you should redo this video and make it more accurate...
Again i commend you on this but def not a switch Yes a fake out but a switch is legs are straight and they scissor in the air, but rock on girl do your thing
We call this a pump, which you learn right after a straight leap, then a switch leap, which should be done with straight legs and you should be hitting a FULL SPLIT position when you do it.
ok first off your cheating it you need to sasha first then your supposed to have your legs straight not bent, then you switch your legs and land. Now, you need to practice the true way of dance whoever taught needs to also learn too. Now stop posting the videos because your giving people the wrong info. The things you need to work on is flexibility and your technique. As a dancer i should know this. Also YOU ARE VERY HORRIBLE AND DO SOMETHING ELSE IN LIFE THAN DANCE CAUSE THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.
In response to mybabyja, I really care how she does it because these videos shouldn't be posted for inspirational reasons. They should be posted so that people who want to learn to dance well, can. I noticed that she says in nearly all of of her "modern dance" videos she says "That's how I would do it in modern dance" Who cares how she would do it?! I think people ought to be able to see clear, basic technique in these videos and find emotion in their own souls and the music they are dancing to.
Who the hell cares HOW she does it. If you're all dancers, you would know that it's not about the technique at all. Dance is showing how you feel through body movement, and everyone is going to show their feelings differently, If that's how she likes to do it. Doesn't matter what it's called, she's just saying she thinks it looks nice in a modern dance. Period.
@mybabyaj understood but people come to these videos to get correct technique and she shouldn't really title it switch leap because that's not what she's doing
Since it's a "modern switch leap" it doesn't have to be the exact same as a normal switch leap. Modern is more creative and not by the original way of doing things. Though, I would agree that I think her legs are supposed to be straight when she pushes off into the leap. But ah well.
This is the old arrow jump which normal starts with a battement front passing through passe and ending in back extension. Intermediate move. The legs are switching but not what we call "switch leap".
expertvillage is extreamly suckish, they go out and find the worst people with the littlest dance experiance and get them to make a video where people will watch and try to do the move but will learn very wrong techniques and pretty much hurt them selves because the instruction is wrong and the "teacher" cant dance herself, all of these "dance videos" are so bad its not even funny
Okay, everyone has different terminology. Some are a little more universal, but geez, she's just one instructor. If that's not your idea of a switch leap, get over it. I've seen lots of studios do it with a bent leg too - Joanne Chapman, for example, one of the best studios in Canada.
Her control and technique isn't the greatest but damn, you people are nitpicky and rude.
WOW .. if my modern dance teacher so this they would be highly upset. she aught not never put another video up! Nd anybody got something smart to say send me a message nd say it to me dont comment it on here cuz i wanna see it. Other wise i think you should keep your comments about wat i have to say to your self. Dont get smart wit me cause she dont know what she talkin bout or doing.
ohhhhhhhhhhh GODDDD...where do they find these people???!?!?!?!? hahahahahahaha..i wouldnt let her come anywhere near my children!!..LOOK AT THOSE SICKLED FEET!!!!! hahahahhaha LMFAO..im surprised she didnt hurt herself...hahah
Her terminology is wrong maybe, however her heart and passion are right in sharing her knowledge bass for free online to help educate and inspire countless others.....if you want to help stop criticizing and start adding your own tutorial videos : ) just a thought, on how to help instead of just being part of the countless masses of complainers.
Thank you :) Ive been needing a way to start training to do where both legs are straight and this helps!

Yeah this really isn't a Switch Leap. Maybe because the legs actually switch,
but on a full technical scale this is wrong.
Then again the bent knee might be to help out the beginners get cofortable with switching their legs. who knows. She has her reasons i'm sure.
I would like to see better hand positions on her though.
paintmejoel 2 years ago
This is definitely not a switch leap..
Or it is, but it's a definite CHEAT.
I'm doing switch leaps in my solos..
I keep my leg straight the entire time..

THIS IS NOT A SWITCH LEAPP!
jmthompson202 2 years ago
That isn't how you do a switch leap. You stretch the leg you switch at the beginning. You don't bend it
kdancer369 2 years ago 2
technique is not that great. more flexiblility and strength would make this better.
and a lot more space

It's a modern dance switch leap...
Although I have to concur, not so great technique...
However she didn't have much room to do it in, it's kind of hard to execute such a leap in a confide space
