Me and my brother scored 50 goals in one game (with 5 min periods v the computer) once. We were NY Rangers as teammates. I still have all our stats somewhere - they make pretty phenomenal reading.
My uncle has a genesis and unfortunately I wasn't born when the genesis was made or old enough to accept how amazing it is (i'm 15). But whenever I went to my uncles house i'd always get excited to play NHLPA 93 on his Genesis and still to this day look forward to playing on it. I just recently got a Genesis and looking into purchasing this game.... One of the best games ever! Best NHL game ever made....
my Lightning were the expansion team in this game and their best players were Chris Kontos and Brian Bradley! lol. all their players were so weak and slow, you could score more then 10 goals on us, it was sad!!! brings back a lot of memories!!!
Basil Mcrae and Tie Domi could eat more punches than anyone could throw too - toughest team was tampa bay (I know - shocked) - but they had mcrae and hunter, and some other cement head. Bruins are the champs in 2010 -11 - built on toughness. This game we love will always stay the same...i pray.
This came out during my third year of college. Let me tell you, many classes were either missed by epic all-night sessions w/ this game, or many afternoon classes were skipped so we could grab a couple of hours of gaming in before starting our night jobs. And a lot of cold Labatt beers were consumed over this theme song....
Ahahaha Tony Twist was what, a 5 overall? I still remember the "Tony Twist Experience". Dangled from behind my net, deking off checks left and right, deked the goalie and buried it. Was hilarious because the speed he was going anybody else would have made it down the ice and back about 5 times before he made it to the other end.
I own everyone with the Rangers in this game. No better goalie combo than Richter and Beezer. And Graves, Messier and Gartner on the same line is just unfair.
I remember the words Team Roster confusing me in this game. I thought of a cockadoodledoo kind of ro(o)ster because I was a kid and didn't understand english all that well. That didn't stop me from playing the game for countless hours however.
@Perilcrown NO idiot Nelly's "Heart of a Champion" sampled the NFL theme you dont know what youre talking about it wasnt NHLPA 93 WHY would a black person sample a hockey game tune? dumbass
I love this so much.. i've never felt my teenage years relived like this...man how many days, weeks, months, years did I play NHL on Genesis.. Grade 8 revisited
Simply the best hockey game ever made. Period. Many say 94 is the best, but the gameplay is not as good in 94 as it is in 93, despite the fact it has 1-timers and goalie control. Also, 94 got rif of the fighting we all loved in 93 AND the blood! 93's puck bounces were so much more fun than 94's predictable bounces. You have to play both to understand what I'm saying! :)
@WeTrustChrist It really is the best. I played this game for an immeasurable amount of time when I was like... 8. NYR was the hardest team to beat and Toronto sucked so bad. So. Much. Time. Spent. NHL '93 Represent
This was my first hockey game that I own, it was very cool! nostalgic feeling! was a good predecessor for the future nhl 94 that brought one important thing missing in this version: the multiplayer option! with the fantastic four way play!
Thanks, I have just felt aged 13 again. Always loved this game, especially the fights you could get into. ;) Maybe people who grew up playing Sega Mega Drive/Genesis or SNES would say this, but gameplay back then was far greater than you get today....
Well there are some great hockey games today (I really like NHL2K7/NHL2K8 for the PS3. and NHL '09 the "be a pro" mode is cool (I prefer the classic controls though).
NHLPA '93 is just special though. I was playing it a few days ago and it is a little depressing I wasn't as good at it, as I used to be. But what a fantastic game in its own right even today!
I remember I went to my friend to play this game everyday just for this theme.
I was a SNES user and that theme was bad compared to this.
There is another tune I really would like to find, it was the tune that appeared after finished game in the final games. match summary or something like that.
this game kicked ass. my buddy bryant had this game and we used to play all the time. his mom and dad used to keep count of our head to head records and record as a team. as a teram we were unstopable head to head he was slightly better than me. he win most of the time by 1 or 2
My underdog players list: DON SWEENEY : Bruins D-man simply gets overshadowed by Bourque but can really check ! ROBERT REICHEL: Flames Forward Joe Nieuendyk is the auto selected center PETR SVOBODA: Sabres D-man Bodger is good but he cant shoot as well CRAIG SIMPSON: Oilers center best backhander in the game lol go ahead try putin in these players instead of what the computer auto edits on the teams line
I was able to play this game last night and it did not disappoint. Played as the blackhawks and my friend played as the red wings. Roenick had 6 goals. Roenick in 93 was like Bure in 95. untouchable.
the penguins were good too, but this game was the Roenick show. I have to find a comparable character in this game. Yzerman and lemieux were the closest i came up with.
The reason the redwings were so far behind the blackhawks was simply because Detroit's Goaltending was like Tim Cheveldae and Glen Hanlon or something. Not even close to Belfour.
Detroit had just as good a skating group as the hawks though.
wow, I used to love this game!! My Lightning were so bad in this game. They were the expansion team this year so their players were all so damn weak and slow!! their best players were Chris Kontos and Brian Bradley and their goalie was Darren Puppa. But you gotta admit, the bassline to this theme rocks!!!
In actuality, he, apparently, had a relatively good scoring touch (especially for such an ultimate energy-line enforcer that he was on the ice in the pros).
