  • I watched "New Girl" and looked up handbell players

  • They have an extensive web site, but this site won't let me post their address. Do a search for Jeffers, then search their site for solo handbell. They have lots of it.

  • Jeffers Handbell Supply

  • alright man. I'm in a handbell choir at my church, i've been playing for 11 years, and this is what i want to do. where can i find music for solo bells w/ accompaniment?

  • and i thought juggling was hard...

  • Yeah. I get the clanking comment a lot AND I've taken it to heart and have made special efforts to avoid it. Much better these days. I'm playing a solo tomorrow at Don Allured's memorial service.

  • that was AWESOME a lot of clanking but it is hard! lol i like malmark bells (: schulmerich bells are my favorite though (:

  • Pfft, I can do that with my hands tied behind my back......*runs away crying*....

    That was awesome!

  • I play hand bells...this is wonderful! I cannot believe my eyes.......you are very talented!! Keep up the good work!!

  • i am going to be trying to play handbells in the youth orchestra i founded...

it will be my first shot at such a thing. i am only playing half notes, and a couple of quarter notes.

i figured for instrument tation's sake. we are playing Ring the bells of heaven.... and i aonly playing on the chorus...

    any thoughts?

  • Solid video, tough o pull off a performance like that with the quantity of bells on the same table, I have preformed one solo handbell performance and it was not of the same difficulty, my only critique would be some issues with clanking when placing bells back on the table early on in the piece.

  • wow hes a pretty darn good, he must really put some time into this.

but hey all you patrons of the arts, how about you think about donating towards our trip to London, anything helps. thanks guys :)

  • Danny! What a great video! I was in Pensacola putting in the Taylor and Boody organ at Trinity Presbyterian years ago. I'm glad to see you still doing the solo handbell thing- you're great!

  • Quite good! When you play 4 in hand, why do you go sideways and not forwards with the bottom bell? I think it makes it much easier (coming from a guy who rings 6 in hand alot!).

  • dang that looks really challenging im having trouble with the 1 table i have to take care of for a handbell septet

  • looks complicated. im going to stick to drumming, but we can jam any time!

  • Enjoyed his brief narration before his performance. Very accomplished! Bravo. Like the fact that he could peform the piece from memory.

  • sounds crazy!

  • i play in a bell chior at school and we only had 1 bell in each hand and we had 16 kids in that bell chior

  • im in a middle school chior(even though im in high school) and im the only 1 who gets 2 play with 2 bells in each hand.............i feel so special lol

  • can he play 6 bells in a hand?

  • He (I) can play 3 bells in each hand, and have almost worked out playing four bells in each hand, but not 6 in one hand.

  • ooh, yes that is what i meant, i heard of playing 3 in each hand but never 4... it would be nice if you made a video on how to play 3 bells in one hand :]

great job by the way :]

  • Not bad!! Perhaps one day you will become another Frank Bowker. I noticed that Dr. Bowker is only soloist I've seen that places his bells upright on the table...interesting. It is pretty clever the way you place the two bells in your hand that way. Anyway, nice job.

  • That was great.

Now only if my handbell choir could sound like that....

  • what church is this?

  • FUMC Fort Walton Beach, Florida

  • Now did I just reply to myself instead of to you? What a rube. I liked your video, before and after I put my foot in my mouth.

  • Many thanks.

  • demo of techniques; Finlandia (arr Anderson?)

  • What do you mean?

  • Sorry, I thought I was just making notes to myself, not posting a comment in public... newly enthused, rushing out the door to Fiddler on the Roof then, now still not sure where I am in this software.... I appreciated your demo & description of 2-bell techniques as I'm a rube in the woods with old-fashioned Whiechapels trying to self-teach. Then it seemed you were playing the same arrangement of Finlandia I had just watched Michele & another guy play, but I didn't have time to watch it through.

  • amazing!! I never knew you can do the whole song by yourself!!

  • This is a great effort by Mr. Lyons, however, as some other people mentioned, he clashed his bells together, quite loudly. He did a very good job otherwise though. I usually play F6 to C7, often four bells. I have played up to seven in one song.

  • Great Playing. I wanna go to Nassau next time! I wanna live there!

  • I just watched all of your handbell videos on YouTube! YOU ARE AMAZING!!!!!!! I really enjoyed them all!!! I hoping to join the Milwaukee Area Handbell Ensemble at Concordia University in Milwaukee, WI. After reading your Information page and Bios on your website, I noticed it stated that you have 2 Cd's and a DVD available. Would you know how I could get a copy of those? Thanks for all you do, and keep performing!!! Hopefully you could come to Milwaukee someday.

  • agh! I know this song in my head I can almost sing it but I cant remember the name... can anyone tell me what it is?

  • "Be Still My Soul" is the hymn tune title. "Finlandia" is the Sibelius tune title.

  • Thanks!! I knew what song it was I just couldn't put the words in... seriosuly great job on being able to ring all those bells by yourself! My question for you is... Is it possible for a handCHIME (yes I'm in a handchimes choir) choir to play this we have about 10 people this year...

  • Sure, your chime choir could play this, but since it's written as a solo most of them would have nothing to do for most of the piece. If you know a little theory you could add some notes for them. In fact, most of the piece is originally written for one note at a time, and I added almost all of the doubled notes because I thought it sounded better. You could do the same for your chime choir. Good luck

  • i play a G6 bell, a G6&7 chime, an A6 and A6b chime, and an A7 bell. Quite confusing and in some songs like "Champagne Rag" i get a real beating bc they're so many accendentials and im constantly changing from bells to chimes.. Now this .. this is like totally amazing ..

  • i play e6 and f6 but i tohught playing three was hard but all of thoose that's amazing

  • he clashed his bells. but it was amazing playing solo

  • i play G6-C7 and boy are they small

  • this is COOL!

  • the only problem i see, is that the lack of having all bells played by diffrent people makes the sound less deep. I play G4-D4 (which are pretty big) and it added a whole new level to my choir.

  • Awesome job. There is a technique called the "Pruitt ring" where the are three bells in a hand. I have only seen it down a few times.

  • Masterfully choreographed...I give thanks for this....As Jimi Hendrix said, "play on brother".....

  • Did you know that someone stole his handbells?

  • wow, i remember playing this...

  • whoa

  • i play C7 and B6 bells. they smallish mediam(i hope i spelled that right!)

  • handbells are the best insturments!(my opinion)

  • A few clanks but it was totally awesome! Bells forever!!!

  • Bells Forever

  • Very nice.

  • Pretty awesome. My teacher doesn't know how to shelly ring, it's nice to be able to see how a REAL handbell player does it. You need to practice a little more though. Other than that, really good, especially with having it all memorized.

  • Hehe, I heard a few bell clanks. Gotta hate it when that happens ;)

  • Very nicely done. That must be a tough one--I haven't been brave enough to try anything solo that uses four-in-hand yet!

  • Lovely. I love handbells best thing in the world. Sadly I am not able to do my solo, but next year I will.

  • Color me impressed!! Wow Danny not only is the music amazing but the video quality is great! We're putting htis one on the podcast tonight (4/3).

  • Oh r u serious?

do u mean you have another DVD coming up?

    i'm studying in Toronto now.

  • Thanks. I've got more coming soon.

  • Finally, a decent handbell video on youtube!

Thanks again for the DVD Mr.Lyons!

  • wow... i played with the rothwell youth ringers for 10 years, and i had to do a solo performance of finlandia... you played it so my more beautiful than i did... thanks for recording it

  • What a nice compliment. Thank you very much.

  • Nicely done. I've always thought handbells were underrated.

  • Thank you for your kind comment. Are you a handbell player?
