this is the best version as far as I know ...to my ears it is like willhem wrote himself... would love to see a performance of Styrifoam too .. thanks for this great posting
Great to find this! I saw The Flamin' Groovies in Plymouth, UK in 1978 and chatted to the band afterwards. Mike Wilhelm himself didn't know how to get hold of a copy of his album that was only available through Zig Zag magazine. I managed it shortly afterwards and still have it today. Thanks for posting!
Wow, can you imagine being there. That would have been awesome.
Wilhelms album is a gem and only available through zig zag magazine in the 70's and now so unknown that I was still able to steal a mint copy as a replacement for one that got stolen for 12 bucks on ebay.
I also love the Dead version of this song its real flash and brash but here he captures a real gritty quality that's in the subject matter. I heard also, in a Judy Collins interview (I think), she says Phillips can't remember writing the song he was drunk on tequila or summit. Thanks again for a great post. Life in London is enriched.
Excellent performance of an awesome tune. It has a very genuine feel to it, especially due to his intro. Thanks, Mike!

is this the guy who was thrown out of Billy Grahm's office in the move Last days of the Filmore?
Buffbodz 5 months ago
@Buffbodz ......YES... MIKE WILHELM WAS THE GUY FIGHTING WITH BILL GRAHAM (FILLMORE THE LAST DAYS)
MIKE HAD BEEN THE GUITAR PLAYER WITH "THE CHARLATANS"
THE GROUP THAT HAD STARTED THE WHOLE HAIGHT MUSIC SCENE.
THE ARE NOW IN THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME FOR DOING JUST THAT..
DAN HICK WAS THE DRUMMER IN THAT GROUP..
WILHELM LATER PLAYED WITH "THE FLAMIN GROOVIES"
GRAHAM SHOULD HAVE PUT WILHELM ON THE BILL...

Smoked many a doobie with Mike. Wouldn't mind a way back machine for a two week visit to 5th Ave, minus the cock roaches, of course.
He had a few jewels. Anybody got his version of Junko Partner or maybe his slide stuff? - anything actually.

I would love to hear again Junko Partner and also Styrofoam... thanks for this one great post anyway

Great vid. If that ain't what singing and fingerpickin is all about. I like his CD by his group , Loose Gravel. Dino Valente does it also.
