Does anyone know of any techniques for shooting press/news conferences? I haven't found any videos only some suggestions from forums on what kits to buy but I would like a demo or even a tutorial such as this one. If anyone can point me to a video or any help it would be really appreciated since I don't know much in the field. Thanks.
This is a REALLY great tutorial, thank you! My only disappointment is that the tutorial includes the FlexFill which is not included in the Lowell kit :(
@thecaseymckinnon Thanks Casey, I appreciate the feedback - and like your vids! You can find the Photoflex 42" flexfill on our web site at dvestore.com, mention this video in the comments during checkout and I'll get you 15% off! Hope that'll help!
Does anyone know what f-stop, ISO, and, shutter speed would be best - on average - when using a lighting kit measuring at 1420 watts totals ( 650 each from the key & fill lights & 120 from the hair light ) ? Thanks in advance to all who answer.
Thanks for asking. There's not a simple answer to this one. The settings will vary wildly depending on how far each of the light sources are from the subject and what ISO your camera is shooting at. Most DV cameras are around ISO320, the Shutter Speed should be set to either 1/60th if shooting at 60i or 30p and set to 1/48th if shooting in 24p. Hope this gives you a place to start. - And remember, protect your highlights - don't them blow out as you can always color correct in post.
a good thing to always bear in mind is the smaller the aperture
the better the quality of the image, I usually try to film around 5.6 tp 7 if you have it wide open like 2.5 or something you start to introduce noise and colour distortion on an average $4000 video cam, dslr video is better because of iso range and great lenses you can add.
Im glad that you show live examples of the light changes.

Very helpful video!
What color temp. (i.e. Kelvin) bulbs do you recommend for indoor interview lighting? Your kit looks great.

sorry, whaty i meant to ask was if this kit has enough power to light film =D. i'm all so very new at this game <3

Depends on what you're trying to light, ie a whole room or a football stadium :)
Also depends on how sensitive the speed of the film is.
dvestore 4 years ago
could you use a setup like this on 16mm ?
pope1870 4 years ago
Absolutely. Three point lighting has been around since film was invented!

Moving shots and characters are what you need to worry about.
