One of the most brilliant song writers/singers in our time...very under-rated...so unfortunate that people have missed the boat on this most intense and forward band and their super strange prolific lead singer!!!
i was lookin back in my record collection and i came across love will ....and inside the sleeve is still the smash hits song sheet i put in over 30yrs ago..wow was it really 30yrs... the music sounds as fresh today as it did yesterday..blimey ....ians been gone too long.
Saw them over 30 years ago when they supported the Buzzcocks at the Rainbowalso when they were supported by Killing Joke. Both times they were the better band. I still love just about every track they've done, can't say that for any other band I've liked since. Nothing compares to them, nothing compares to Curtis either. God rest his soul.
Joy Division is my new obsession. The music is so raw and real in this version it's so awesome to hear, and recognize through the instrumentals that they are pioneers and have had an affect on a lot of musicians. No wonder every band I like likes them.
@LEW5554 I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but Interpol sound a lot like Joy Division, not the other way. There's this thing called "history." Maybe you've heard of it?
I know its cliche but these young men were way ahead of their time. That sound...just so moving, amazingly it goes right through you conjoin with the poetic lyrics. My top 3 JD songs.
@rjpalmerin Emotionally you;re right, but factually you're wrong. They weren't ahead of their time, they were simply timeless. Grab yourself a time machine and go back to any era - Victoria's, Henry VIII's, Emperor Constantine's, or the time of Herodatus, and play Unknown Pleasures or Closer or Substance, and you're still going to get the same reception. Imagine a thousand freedmen and slaves rocking to No Love Lost, or Atmosphere, or These Days or Decades or Love Will Tear Us Apart.
like ian. i got the spirit but loose the feelings.

why do people always say they were ahead of their time when a lot of mainstream music was good back then whilst mainstream music is now rubbish.

@scubasteve7196 Have you ever seen Control? Anton Corbijn directed it and it was fantastic. You can download it on Itunes. I highly recommend it

Always worshiped New Order, but this is my first time listening to Joy Division. It's awesome. They are pioneers and revolutionary with their music.
