For the exterior shot you see here, which is pretty heavy, @ 720X1080 you get a reasonably clean image in under 5 minutes or so. Though when using Maxwell it pays to understand how to optimize your lighting setup and scene. Also know that Maxwell is fast with exteriors but slower with interiors. In any case a 980 should work fine. I would look at the new 2600K as well. Fewer cores but faster, cheaper, more energy efficient and unlocked unlocked, not to mention is runs on newer motherboards.
This presentation was done with i7 940 ?How much you have to wait to render this scene to get good qual. picture ? I'm buying i7 980 and i Hope that it will be good choice to run maxwell with good time results.
Update: The re-voxelization issue with material changes on big scenes, as highlighted at the end of the video, has been fixed in the latest release of the Maxwell plug-in for Max. Next Limit was pretty quick on that one I must say.
