would you recommend it to someone who wants to buy a class bass because he's playing on a squier starter bass for years ? I like the upright bass sound of this one so much that I'm thinking of buying a squier again instead of a fender ..
@LukaaaasMusic If you want something sounding more like an upright, I would recommend using flatwound strings. I notice that when playing closer to the neck it helps with sustain. The fellow in the video is going for a Jaco Pastorius feel and tone, which is cool but not too acoustic-sounding in my opinion. Hope this helps.
@666patrickbateman666 I don't know what exactly it weighs, and it's made of Agathis, if that's any help to you. It doesn't feel heavy, even after a night of gigging.
@dTbFan72 Absolutely! He revolutionized the sound of the electric bass. It's very difficult to pick up a Jazz Bass and not play some Jaco-esque things. I fell in love with the sound and feel of the fretless. So much freedom, yet so much responsibility!
@madsjamzzzzz I like the Nemesis 2x10 combo quite a bit. It's punchy, yet the bottom end is solid and thunderous if I need it. It doesn't way a ton either; maybe 50lbs at the most. It hasn't let me down yet.
@PennybagDarrell Never tried tapewounds - interesting! Maybe experiment with your attack and a little tweaking of tone and EQ controls you might get something close to it.
@baceace most of the reviews ive seen ppl keep sayin roundwound damages the fretboard most ppl use flatwound but i dont know my bass is not here yet to test it LOL
@acheron777 I tried flats, but I just don't like 'em. The rounds do chew up the board a bit over time (I've had this for almost 4 years now) but not as quickly as you would think. That glassy shine is going to wear away over time no matter what. I loved it too when I first got it. The bass actually started to sound better once I wore it in a bit.
2 questions. 1. im 13 years old, ive played this bass before and ive been playing for 2 years and im doing pretty good at the moment. do you think i should buy this if i could? 2. is this bass worth it?
@chapanese96 Sure, go for it. Just realize it's not going to be like playing a fretted bass, and it will take time to get used to checking your intonation on a regular basis. It also depends on what styles you play, although I have seen fretless used in heavier settings.
I like the bass a lot, but I would strongly urge you not to pay $299 for it. That's just outrageous, so keep your eyes open for a nice used one if you can.

(What strings are ya usin on it, the sound is just awesome! =D) As far as I know, I had the stock Fender strings on that bass at the time. Either that, or they were some $4 bargain-bin strings from Guitar Center. Wish I could remember, because I'm afraid that the next set won't have as much mwah factor. Thanks for your interest!
@MisterMcStrat If you need new strings for that bass or any fretless, GHS Pressurewounds are the way to go. Essentially roundwound/flatwound hybrids, they have punch and top end but won't mess up your fingerboard :)
No upgrades and I am pretty sure those were the strings that came on the bass. The only mod I have done to this bass is the addition of Schaller straplocks (which I wish I hadn't done!)
I had thought of putting a Badass II bridge on it and some hotter p'ups, but It seems to do the job for me as is. I've played a hundred or so gigs with it and it always sounds great. The neck is a bit temperamental and requires faithful adjustment of the truss rod which is my only complain.
As pretty as the bass looks with the shiny black ebanol finish, it really starts to "wake up" when you wear it down a bit, and the "mwah" becomes more evident. Sure, roundwounds chew the hell out of it, but that's where the sound is! :)
That's due to the strings gently touching the fingerboard. In fretless land that's called the "mwah factor," because that's what it sounds like. You can adjust that with your truss rod, or bridge saddles. The key is to get that sound without bottoming out completely; it will have a sound like a bass that's fretting out.
The other part is my technique. Using the tips of your fingers also helps to accentuate it. Watch Jaco Pastorius videos, and you'll see what I'm taking about. Hope this helps!
I like it a lot! It's a different sound than the 4x10, but it's still very warm, especially with that bass. It's got a strong propensity for mids, but with a little massaging of the EQ controls, it works with just about anything. The DI is great too, since you can go post or pre EQ. The main reason I bought it was portability, but it's really pulled its weight in a piano trio, and a few intimate rock gigs. Hope this helps!
hey man nice playin, im about to buy this bass and im wonderin does it still play great when the neck shine and everything wears off?

@gomez24154 No effects, just straight into my amp, and the DI going to my mixer. Effects are tricky with bass, and best used sparingly or not at all.
