Am I the only one who thinks Phillipe is absolutely gorgeous? I have a thing for slightly feminine men, I suppose. I've always loved this version since I was little, because you truly feel bad for Erik. :( He's so sweet. I'd choose him over Phillipe, but I just want say that Phillipe is.... well.... smoking hot. lol.
If you truly love someone, then what they look like should be little problem. No one is perfect, and everyone should be loved for who they are, past the skin. It might not be easy, but imagine how great it would be if everyone cared about who you were over how you looked!
@Sarcasticyetsexygeek you cannot resist the voice. You are safe .....as long as you do not touch the Mask! "As long as you thought me handsom, you would have come back to me. But now that you have seen my face, you must stay here and never never leave."
did anyone ever notice that if Erik looks like he's under tha age of forty, he's considered handsome, but if he's any older, then he's marveled at for his hideousness?
"These magnificent quarters ?" LOL Christine was living in the prop room of the opera theater, that's hardly magnificent...that's was the equivalent of living in the janitor's closet.
I think Christine sincerely loves Erik, why just look at 2:47 onward where she's feeling terrible. She just forgot herself with the Count, that's all. She's young, it was her first major success, it would be normal she would be excited and caught up in the moment with a childhood friend. At 2:47, she's stroking the piano, feeling genuine sadness. If Erik had been there at that moment, she'd probably have kissed him. Its not her fault that he's so distant and that she's so inexperienced.
I fell in love with the Phantom when I watched this version for the first time. >_< I honestly don't dislike childhood romance, but I DO wish they had more about the Phantom and Christine. They don't show a lot of the Phantom. It's more about CHRISTINE solely -.-'
I agree with Hiakrukaze, I'm not a fan of first "childhood loves" ending up together I dislike it in romance novels and I dislike it in this too . I'm not saying it doesn't happen but-so much of it strikes me as hat the characters themselves haven't changed, haven't moved on, haven't evolved at all, so often the character spends their entire life pining over someone, loosing sometimes potentially good relationships for something they had before real emotional maturity.
And this version but it would be so much better if they just screwed the book and just concentrated on the phantom/Christine relationship. Get rid of the tragic ending. I want a movie were everything works out in his favor. This phantom is just too damn cute to waist.
@XsmurfetteX He's like 'Oh no she didn't!' XD its a chick thing i laughed over. I wanted to beat her senseless as well -brings out a coil of rope- lets take care of her! Oh christine, do you know the song 'keep your hand at the level of your eye?'
No! You -begins cursing in french holding open an English to French dictionary- %@%#@%#@! Erik needs you! Not the fop Phillipe.... by the way where the heck is Raoul? -glances around-
-somewhere tied up in a dark dungeon far away-
Raoul: Big brother this isn't funny anymore. I was only joking when I said my character had more lines and that you couldn't do a better job! -cries- Why does this always happen to me?........d$mmit!
I really dislike how the writers gave the Raoul character and Christine an actual history together, and a somewhat musical one at that. The main point of the "raoul" character is that he is an old childhood acquaintance who wishes to take Christine off the stage and into his house as a countess. To highlight the theme of tradition (Raoul and wealth) contrasting passion (Phantom and music). The theme isn't expressed when the Raoul character doesn't have these traits. Thoughts anyone?
I always hate the idea childhood friends become lovers. It's... it's so... unreal. May be it's just me. But the one you know when you was small will not be the one you know when you grew up. People will change. How can you love someone deeply because of some pieces of memories? >"<
Man, the 2004 film sucks compared to this!!! Its sorta funny...Christine looks much like Bella Swan, but they are alike in more than just appearance..they both are "whiney do nothings who don't deserve either one of them!" (SNL) Also....LOVE YOU ERIK!
Charles Dance is wonderfully subtle in the scene where Christine lies to him. There's something he does with his eyes that really gets me. My heart just breaks for Erik.
Meh. I've only ever seen ONE that I liked. And, even then, it wasn't much. It was an off-broadway production and you almost (I use the term loesely) felt sorry for him. But, for all others I've seen, I agree.
Why does Christine's voice sound so familiar? Not her singing voice. I am almost positive I have never seen her in any other movies but, I may be wrong. Help??
When Christine hugged Erik, even without seeing his face you could tell he was thinking " Wow...she's hugging me....umm can I stay like this for a while?" XD so sweet.
Poor Erik....poor, poor, unhappy Erik. All he wants is someone to love him for who he is and to have a wife, a wife to take out on Sundays! (that is from Gaston Leroux's novel...a wife to take out on Sundays, Poor Erik!!!) Hey, stop kissing it's only the first date people!!!!
Sorry the comment with fivecentfather was taken off, that was my dad and he wanted me to take it off of his account because well he doesn't want to hug Erik, hey but I do, I'm FiveCentPhantom and I am a girl who is obsessed with phantom of the opera!
I really love it when Cristine is so affectionate towards Eric and that she is not typical with him but she sows him all her feelings like being a liitle girl-despite the distance Eric tries to keep(to protect both Cristine and himself from his disastrous ,desrarate love...).
I would feel bad being late for my voice lesson for my boyfriend, too, and I probably wouldn't admit to my voice teacher that was the reason, either. XD But still, lying isn't nice. I never liked Christine much either, but no reason to call her a bitch...
Want to know something even more random? In the 2004 version, at one point we see a bag of chips in Raoul's possession. As if Doritos existed back then.
