A wonderfull movie and soundtrack. Ive written the music up for it so i can play this at a gig. My kids and i had holidays in a place similar to this fishing village and after travelling the world many times, we always end up saying those seaside holidays are hard to beat. Love the song victor...
look, i like mark knopfler, but tit is complete horsesh*t to claim mark knopfler wrote the soundtrack when this band, whoever they are, have by far the two best songs in the entire movie. the song preceding this, which i have attempted to locate for years, is simply astounding. if anyone can find out who this band was, and most importantly what were the two songs they played at this ceilidh
@ginsoakedbeau I looked up Local Hero (1983) on IMBD and then looked under "Soundtracks" for credits. It does list Mark Knopfler as haven written all the songs for this movie. It also lists Mark Knopfler as performing most of the songs as well. It gives a band's name of The Acetone
thejademerchant I'm afraid you are wrong, I have the actual lyrics, and if you think about it, they last word of the song are '' lonesome for a lone star man like me'' if it was lone star state it would not make sense :) cheers
@djjc1207 For some reason I started singing this in the car today, despite not having watched this brilliant movie for years. However, I've always assumed the lyric is " 'Cause even the Lone Star State gets lonesome". Maybe we'll just have to sing along differently!!
What a "Bear" Victor is......hilarious. Christopher was perfect in the role. "Silly bitch" he says to Gordon about his female dingy operator.Wonder what she was yelling to him about? LMAO
Not sure about the prices for Flight, and it can be warm, then rain, then warm again, all in the same day LMAO, but is not too tot, but the water will be freezing :)
@djjc1207 Oh-alot like Seattle then. I lived up there for a year and I loved the rain, then sun, then more rain, lots of clouds-it's in ma blood. Early fall was wayyy to hot and in December,15 inches of snow closed down the entire metro seattle area (very hilly-icy roads=nitemare).colorado is just too sunny for me (my home is 6500 feet above sea level-sun is INTENSE) so I love it when clouds roll in-bring on the rain, I say!
Local Hero was filmed at several places around Scotland. Most of the village scenes were filmed in Pennan on the Aberdeenshire coast, most of the beach scenes at Morar and Arisaig on the west coast, hope this helps :)
@djjc1207 Guess what movie I am watching...AGAIN??? Was Hubbys idea tonight-think he's a convert! :) Watching Victors Song in the movie-yep, no way is it Victors thing to want another man-too funny -LMAO And, yes, have place marks on google earth where the beach is and Pennan. I wonder what airline prices are like this summer? In summer. along the west coast, the temps aren't too hot, correct? What about the water?
Why are 2 people fighting , looking at the comments? Everything about Local Hero is supposed to make US FEEL GOOD-at Peace! Best movie ever made, cast, script, scenery! What I wouldn't give to watch a sunset on that beach...with some REAL Scotts..big sigh. A girl can dream..........................
Oh MY Gosh!!! I watched Local Hero ..AGAIN last weekend and for some reason, Victor's song keeps playing over and over in my head. Just now-here is the Man himself-a priceless clip from my favorite movie of all time! Love this :) I just noticed the lyrics are just below my comments-well done djjc1207!
Apologies, there is a character limit on this thing. I meant to say that the quotes from the song refer to McIntyre, finally finding somewhere he feels he can settle and call "home." Note also, that there is a shot of Stella as he makes his way into the room as Victor is singing. This would tie-in with McIntyre saying: "I'll make a good Gordon, Gordon!" at another point in the film and stating: "I want you to leave Stella here with me;" when Mac decides he wants to swap his life for Gordon's.
I think the melody or tune is based on "Send Me the Pillow that You Dream On," which is an old song from the 1940s or '50s. The lyric has probably been written by the film-maker, since the end of the first verse: "But someday, when my roaming days are over, I will find a place to call my own;" and the second verse ends: "Lonesome for a Lone Star Man like me." Texas is known as the "Lone Star" state. It is no coincidence that "Mac" appears as Victor is singing, or the lady hugs Victor's jacket.
Local Hero is one of the best films ever made - on so many levels. I always find something new each time I watch it. And Victor's song always brings a lump to the throat.
@Falloutcookingshow I always thought the "lumpy" island in the beach scenes was the Isle of Rhum because I found a map and west to northwest is Rhum. I even Googled it. Am I wrong? please let me know-I am only an American here with a very strong urge to visit that Beach!!!! I do have Scottish blood :)

Guess that I was born to be a rover.
Guess I've always been a rolling stone.
But someday when my rolling days are over.
I will find a place to call my own.
'Cause even the lone stars they get lonesome.
Lonesome as the lost ship on the sea.
Even the lone stars they get lonesome.
Lonesome for a lone star man like me
