  • And to think we are trying to celebrate Scotlands greatness and all we get is a demonstration of the infamous ignorance of North Americans. 'England was the only beneficiary of the Union'. Aye that’s why we ended up inventing half of the modern world when the Union opened up new gateways. There are many decent arguments for Scottish independence but telling lies about Scotland's proud history is not one of them!

  • Alba an Aigh!

  • I see someone has commented on the RBS and HBOS saga. Let me answer that with a simple answer that you Unionists can understand. There wouldnt have been the issue that their was because Westminster would not have been setting the regulations and rules that allowed them to get into that state in the first place. Think about it. Scotland didnt cause the mess LONDON DID

  • if we werent in the union what would have happened to RBS and HBOS? what would have happened to my money? they were hours away from not being able to open and there's no way a small country like scotland could have bailed RBS out after their disgraceful leadership over the past few years drove them into the ground.

would my account and its contence have just disappeared?

  • Ah, Scotland, How I love thee.

    Thanks for posting.

  • If you knew anything about Scottish history and the massacre at Glencoe you wouldn't come across as such an ignorant bastard. Go and get your facts straight.

  • i know about history i know they worked for the english

  • I regret to say this but it's true ..

(I don't suppose anyone will care to argue?)

  • Thank you for this video. I will be coming to the land of my ancestors ( The Campbells) in the fall of 2009. It is so beautiful, I can not wait to see it in person.

  • i hope your homecoming will be all you hope it shall be and more

  • Thank you. I am sure it will be. I can't imagine a place where I would rather be. I have live in the US - Pennsylvania, Colorado, Alaska, Florida, and Arkansas. It will only be more beautiful then all these placed combined.

  • @dptcruiser just dont visit glencoe!, im a macdonald decendent, lol

  • If I die before I visit Scotland it will be a huge tragedy for me. Beautiful video :)

  • its paradise...ty for posting

  • what is this song?

  • may morning runrig

  • thank´s. I imagined that we are runring but i don´t knew the name of the song.

  • I Realy Wish to visit This Wonderfull Country In the Soon Future ...

  • It is of the most beautiful countries in the world and the people are og the friendliest , wherever you are from you will be welcomed and come when you please and for as long as you wish !

  • Scotland and her people fought valently and struggled to keep itself independent.Eventually Scotland was coerced into a "union" by England. Its seems clear that england was the only beneficery from this forced union.Successive English governments have planted Scotland with pro british english settlers to curb Scotlands charge for independents. They did this in Ireland especially the north of Ireland where unionists now make a majority.Remember this is still active policy today.Same with Wales.

  • pfff you're talkin pure shite sirius. the union was a scottish idea. the first king of the union was the king of scotland. he spoke scots. we unquestionably benefitted from the union. whether we should remain in the union now is another matter but to say it was detrimental for us to join in 1707 is retarded.

  • @siriusrex Jesus H Christ! 'Planted Scotland with pro British settlers'. What is this fucking babble? What on an earth are you talking about? You cannot possibly be serious as a human being for one second and be spewing out this utter pish! And I think you will find in the north of Ireland the vast majority of settlers were SCOTTISH. This is an historical FACT!

  • "For a'that and a'that,

    It's coming yet for a'that"

    Saor Alba!

  • I'm very proud to be Scottish so obviously I vote SNP and I know Independence is the only way to go for Scotland. I cannot understand people who profess to be proud of being Scottish and yet want to stay part of the union, to me that just doesn't make sense.

  • Scotland reached its greatest heights as part of the union. The Enlightenment couldn't have happened without the riches of Empire that union with England brought us; without it we'd've stayed as a basically tribal country for God knows how long. For me, being proud of Scotland is about choosing what's best for the country, not blindly lashing out at a nation we've been an absolutely vital and worthy part of for 300 years.

  • "Riches of empire"

The Enlightement happened because Scotland was the first country in the world to introduce free education long before any "union" and thus began to see the benifits due to an enforced "peace" between Scotland and England.

And if the riches of Empire mean going to anothers country and stealing the natural resources then you can count me out I don't want a part of it!

"Broken families in land we've herriet,

will curse Scotland the Brave nae mare, nae mare"

  • fair point, but wha about the thousands of years fighting prior to the union?

  • your 1oo% correct

  • To me it makes perfect sense; culturally, economically, historically....

Because the self-appointed good guys, the SNP don't have a monopoly on pride or truth. To me that just doesn't make sense.

    Laters.

  • I would just like to represent all the Scots who are proud of our land, and don't want full independence.

There's quite a lot of us too, you know...

  • for sure robin. if we had a refferendum today we'd stay in the union for sure. salmond is an opportunist numpty. people wanting independance has nothing to do with benefitting scotland its simply anti english.

  • "if we had a refferendum today we'd stay in the union for sure.", really? The most recent opinion polls suggest that people are actually very much in the middle and could easily be swayed.

Almost everything you have just said with regards to HBOS and RBS has nothing to do with Holyrood because as a governmental body it does not control the banks - YET.

  • it has to do with scotland. would we have been able to bail out the banks? no. so what would have happened to my money? nothing to do with financial regulations, and i very much doubt they would have been any more stringent than the FSA anyway.

  • Perhaps we shouldn't allow such banks to put our money into such high risk investments. The idea that Scotland cannot go independent because of two banks which are currently highly intertwined within the UK banking system is ridiculous. No one knows whether or not the same would have happened under an independent Scotland, no one.

It also depends on how strong our economy was with regards to whether or not we could have bailed out the banks.

  • "people who want is nothing to do with benfitting scotland its jst anti-english"

yes ? your point being ? were sick and tired of an english govt we want to be able to decide our own future we dont want people hundreds of miles awya doing it for us thanks , but the uses of the english are disappearing , and one more thing stop telling us we cant support ourselves , look at ireland they went indepedant with no real major industry , now there doing ok even if it is the credit crunch.

  • are they? there levels of unemployment are massive. they're leaving in there droves. irish people go on about how great it is but leave the first opportunity they get.

  • the snp are here to stay mate !! as for independance i'm all for it and so are a large najority of scotland, even most english are for it too, so go screw the union 100per cent independance i'll settle for nothing less.

  • 41% want independence...40% don't...

  • ..and..?

  • I Live in scotland and live in dundee. Its gtreat how you can travel 5 minutes in a car and be in the middel of the countryside. I also sail and its just the best experence sailing on the lochs. Nice vid and music Runrig-Maymorning.

  • I must be in the 49% that wants out. Although we'll get our wish soon.

  • I'm here in Mobile Alabama. My Grandfather Finley MacFadyen came to the US at age 10. He grew up to become a wealthy businessman and public officeholder. What I remember most were his stories about Scotland. He was a good American but he also loved Scotland.

He was of the opinion that Scotland should have followed Ireland's lead in 1921 and sought independence. I'm sure your video would have brought tears to his eyes. On his behalf - thank you

  • i agree with your grandfather, scotland should have followed irelands lead and become independent.

Have you ever visited scotland, and if you did i hope you had a fantastic stay.

  • We could afford it too, if the English stopped stealing our oil.

  • Moving words , very moving thank you , yes we should have followed in Irelands footsteps and fought for freedom.

    ALBA GU BRAITH

  • better late than never, we will see our independence soon.

  • I live in this glorious Country, Scotland. Your Grandfather has a lot to be proud of here as do you, his descendant. Haste Ye back

  • well become independent again. We love our country

  • Millions of years ago when continants were still forming waht we see today, Scotland and Ireland were drifting north on their own, (hence our faboulous weather!! lol) and then England came along and grabbed on to Scotland, We were once completely free and the feeling seems as though it has passed down from many millions of years ago!!

  • Scotland is stunning!! I love it!!

  • My dad is the king of Scotland.

  • Get yer father to "unite the clans" :)

Missin the homeland, but shall hence leave Winnipeg and return soon

  • If you are allowed to field your own football (or other athletic) selection... then you should have the right to be an independent nation. When has Texas fielded a squad in the qualifiers in the CONCACAF?

  • Puxa Asturies

    Bierzo Ceibe

  • pack the independence talk in - im a nationalist but lets just enjoy the video and appreciate scotland. We arent going to change one anothers opinions on this as they are too well set.

  • thanks, well said

  • In their heart, the Scottish people have always been free but in reality, they are not. The natural state of all mankind is to be free and rule by a foreign government and monarchy is subjugation not independence. Scotland and England can remain partners and neighbors when Scotland is independant.

  • Give Scotland freedom

  • ¡Viva Escocia!

  • Thanks for the video,

  • Go Scottish ! I hope you ll have your independance one day. Lets fight the britpigs egglish like William Wallace did long time ago ! France support you. Breizh support you...

  • its a kind of spam?

    Scotland is already independent.

  • They are not totaly independant.

  • its really?

    then sorry by arrogance

  • in heart we are, internationaly we are, the english refuse to accept it. they've already lost that battle!
