The conditions were a little strong for a newbie. the buggie was yawing a lot oftentimes. All the time the attachment was seeming inadequate: AoA ??
middle of day turbulent conditions. Putting in the air an inexperienced pilot with the aid of two people is not a good learning technique espescially in turbulent conditions.
Hang gliders tumble, lock-out or just dont have enough control authority. and they are a pain in the butt to transport. Whereas collapses in paragliders can be avoided with adequate skill. yeah, I can fly both.
Holy crap that has to be the scariest launch I've ever seen! He should have taxied a bit more n stabilised the glider but his instructor yelled at him to go! I don't know why he took a collapse. Yes there is some wind but not that much because you can see that as he makes good headway into the wind. I don't think he was flying in "bad" weather. Perfect conditions don't often happen. What glider is that? New is't not! It looks old n crappy 2 me.
Hang gliders crash too, the frame has nothing to do with it. Training does. If you get proper training and fly proper equipment problems with anything will be very rare. This was a total newbie flying in conditions he shouldn't have been. An experienced pilot never would have taken that collapse.
What do you think caused this? What could he have done? I'm sure that you're right, I'm just curious what could have done to prevent that sort of thing.
In order to prevent the collapse he should have hit the brakes to hold pressure in the glider. It is a feel for active handling that can be learned through proper training from master pilots and tons of kiting. You can learn to instinctively respond to drops in pressure. Sometimes people are too quick to get in the air and are shown how to launch before they actually learn how to fly. If you have to help them control the glider to launch then perhaps they shouldn't be launching.
One of the first things PPG pilots must do is make the decision to fly--I could hear the wind noise in the microphone of the video recorder, which probably meant that the conditions for safely flying were not there. Do the rest of us PPG pilots a favor and make good decisions about what conditions you take off in. You got lucky this time but I would rather not see videos such as this one. It gives the sport I love a bad name.
A man or a cat? Does he really have 9 lives? To bad he wasn't wearing a reserve shoot during his recent mountain biking cliff dropping collar bone cracking good time. I think he is down to 4 lives... meow.
I'm sorry. This is inexcusable. Safety is foot launched at sunset, or sunrise. Create your own perfect conditions. Don't rely on others for help. Be choosy... ...years later you will still have never crashed.
this is exactly why flying close to the ground is so dangerous. You can't see the "potholes" in the air as you can see in the road. This does not prove that paragliders are death traps.
This was caused by a very local disturbance or turbulence in the air.
These "drops" happen to ultralights and B-52's, so don't judge the aircraft!
Outlaw nothing! To each his own! Have a little tolerance! Try harder to be an American. I know for some of you it is very difficult. If you need help, ask the ninja, he is very understanding.
nahh... he just got s front tuck... it happens... and as you can see in the video it pops out by itself with about 50 feet of height loss. you can avoid them to a certain extent because you can feel a loss of pressure in the sterring toggles, but you have to react quickly and increase angle of attack by pulling on the brakes just the right amount.
as an ex ultralight pilot and PG pilot I can say that ultralighting in easier.
for less money,,this guy could get him a really nice ultralight,,,and not have his wing fucking wiping out on him,,,hope they outlaw these things,,like 3 wheelers
What the hell.. Did he even glance at his wing on takeoff? Lucky he's not badly injured.

Actually the guy who is flying (Chris) is not student. He is an experienced pilot - just first time launching a trike.

The reason paragliders collapse is they are lethal. Get a real aircraft.Get a hang glider.

what causes a collapse?
adrianrubi 2 years ago
probably not enough pressure on the brake lines

The only safe decision to make is to never fly a frameless aircraft. PG's cannot be made to not collapse or blow back.

He got lucky that he was able to grab a little air just before the landing. Or maybe they would need to carry him. But he would have made it.

what cause the front tuck is it airspeed exceeding angle of attack or just flying to slow or turbulence? im glad i fly a rigid wing
amediastintas 4 years ago
Gosh, I think the only non-rigid aircraft I'd ever willingly fly would be a safety parachute. And only to get out of a crippled (rigid) glider...
