Actually that was originally the "Somewhere Between" cut that the singer mentioned early in the vid. It just wound up a Keith Whitley album because Keith was the lead singer in JD's band at the time.
The Mandolin player and tenor singer is my dad Wendy Miller
he also played with Larry Sparks and The Russell Brothers. the bass player is Randy (Cosmos) Hayes who also played with The Russell Brothers and went on to play with Keith Whitley.
I've got an old vinyl album of your dad with Mike Lilly. It's an instrumental album. I haven't been able to listen to it for many years because I don't have a record player... archaic technology. By the way, it looks like Cosmos is the one singing tenor on this song. It's a great song, and your dad does an excellent mando solo. Is he still picking?
@FlyingTiger64 Yeah! I've got that album, too! Larry had a great band back then with Mike Lilly and Wendy Miller. They do a great instrumental called Kentucky Chimes. I chuckle when I look at the cover with the long hair and bell bottom pants - totally the 70's era! (come to think of it, I looked like that too - lol) Nice to know that both Wendy and Mike kept playing! Cheers!
Your father is one of my favorite contemporary mandolin players...his recordings with Larry Sparks are about as good as it gets. Do you know if footage from those days exist??
I really like this song. My guitar player introduced it to me a few days ago and it's really growing on me. Great lyrics, great banjo by JD at his peak.
Josh is just an amazing musician and singer. A lot of folks either haven't heard him or don't realize how good of a multi-instrumentalist he is. I really hope his new band does well.
Thanks for sharing. I remember this show which was Fire On the Mountain with David Holt. Great show too bad they could not keep in on. I talked with David while passing through the Smokies and he was very dissapointed if was not continued. Do not known of any show that had any better selection of bluegrass music.
The home videos of the bluegrass festivals I taped myself. The clips from The Stomping Ground are from a tape that I've had for a very long time. I think I borrowed it from somebody and just never returned it! Anything else I've uploaded is something I've taped myself off television.
The guy singing lead and playing guitar is Tony King. Tony played with Crowe from '83 through '86. I heard from him a few weeks ago and he's been singing backup and playing rhythm guitar for Brooks & Dunn for the last 13 years. I've also taled to the bass player here, Randy Hayes, who played with Whitley until Whitley's death in '89. He has some great videos posted...look up haze61151.
Am I missing Paul Adkins? Great to see Randy on tenor with NS.

Keith Whitley also had a great cut on this tune. JD also played banjo on that cut.

JD and Earl make it look effortless. Their probably two of the best that ever lived and its a thrill to watch em get-r-done!
Forgive me if this has been asked but whos the tenor singer? I've seen him somewhere before.
