a good guide, and that really means something seen as i'm an amateur who's been searching for over 1/2 an hour for a start to finish guide that i actually understand.
Hi Dave, Have you thought of looking at more current sustainable growing which allows you to grow year-round regardless of where you live? How about lowering overhead and producing your current production on one tenth the acreage. Not till, no weeds, no expensive equipment and bountiful harvest! I speak from forty years of experience. @bullittkid I use six 40-watt cool-white lamps, two per fixture. That's 240 watts. I can grow about fifteen robust seedlings to approximately 6 inches. I give the seedlings about 14 hours of light per day and they're ready in four or five weeks.
At 10 cents per kWh, I'm spending 2.4 cents per hour and 33.6 cents per day. Over 35 days this will cost $11.76. If I grow 15 plants, that's 78 cents per plant.
Nice video but to start the seeds inside u don't need to put them under light u can just set them in a table near a window or something they really don't need light.
Dave SSSSsssHHhhhh ... everyone will now know the truth about home grown tomatoes being more tastier and having much more flavour and its true Dave once tasted theirs no turning back to super market tomatoes after eating home grown.Their are tomatoes and then theirs tomatoes, please reader find out for yourself. Kind Regards
really nice video man keep it up......does anyone know if i can plant the actual seeds from a tomatoe. since i live in mexico most of them are really natural and thats why i dont need a different species
Wow Just brilliant tips but maybe he should be a bit less philosopheric and a bit more simple? Is that too much to ask or what I dont really mind because I just LOVE tomatoes I dont really care how fat or skinny, dark or light or juicy or dry after all a tomato is a tomato! Or is it?
FYI... if you live in Zone 10 like me, where you don't really get frost, you need to be careful about planting your tomatoes when it's too hot. I've heard that the plants do not fruit as well once the temperature is above a sustained 85ish degrees.
I never planted a garden, could any of you help me find out what types of vegetables a person should have in a garden. Any and all information will be appreciated! Thanks
Whatever vegetables you like to eat I guess. Some grow easier than others, especially in different climates. Around here melons grow like weeds (I had accidentally grew a patch of watermelons by spitting seeds off my pool deck one summer) , but they probably wouldn't up North. Check online to find out what "zone" your in, and any gardening website should give more detailed help.
I am growing awesome maters, but my cucumbers are coming out round!...what is that about?...and my watermelon's get going good then turn black on the end...anyone know why this is occuring and how to stop it?
The new Food Safety Modernization Act will eventually outlaw private gardens. Soon only the giant multinational corporations will control all food and water!
Dave, I loved your video very much and I will try your tips on Tomatoes, but u did not explain what type of soil and when cut the branches off. Please someone suggest me.
YOU, sir, know what your talking about. your video is the ONLY one out there, that makes sense. no frills,no b/s, no retarded ideas. EXCELLENT advice. and those chickens are to die for. is it true, that if you feed a certain type of feed to the chickens, they WILL lay eggs WIHOUT a rooster??!! i'm interested in having eggs for breakfast, not 'chicks'----
hello, my tomato plant has some yellow leaves at the bottom- why is this? is this bad? and also it is only growing 1 tomato. i am growing it on my balcony in a pot. i have a cage for it. i water it once in the morning. i live in S. California so there is plenty of sunlight. thanks.
I planted 3 tomato plants that I bought from Home Depot. I bought them a little big and already they have flowers, having been in the ground for less than two weeks. I also planted pepper plants, but they aren't doing so well.
Very nice tips my friend. I normally buy started plants from the nursery but I think I have enough time this year to start my own indoors. Very inspiring video!

It's also worth getting a small bumblebee hive so your tomatoes can be pollinated. There's one for the amateur gardener called a Beepol hive.

Hen's will lay eggs regardless if you have rooster or not, the only time you need a rooster is if you plan to hatch the eggs.
