In those days bands were expected to lip sync to make life easy for the tv production teams...if they refused they didnt get the exposure. Blondie would often look half assed when syncing probably because they felt stupid doing it, they were great live. In the UK it was the same with top of the pops, sync or do not appear on the show...some bands like the clash refused, most were pressured into it.
