I completely agree with you saying software engineering is an art. I am a programmer, and I make programs to explore them, just like an artist would with an art piece.
@alpar122555 Fair point... I just assumed they were running really high end SGI or Sun stuff from how 'tech' everything was in the film, but it could have been A/UX. Guess I need to watch it again. I just remember the annoying girl loudly proclaiming something like 'I know this! It's a Unix machine!'
Wow, thanks for adding that audio cred. at the end for the game industry. I wasn't expecting that. However, I don't think Jobs would be the guy to talk to about it! lol
@Pingstery Trust me, the interviewer's English vocabulary is superb and speaks it fluently. The reason why he didn't ask much is because it's his style. Jim Reekes is obviously at ease talking so openly, so why interrupt?
A very nicely done interview. A joy to view and to listen to. One of the few examples where the focus was steadily on the person being interviewed -- which made it feel like an intimate interview. Great job!

Great interview. Great questions and you let him speak. You listened to him, and in return he told you everything. The best interviews are the one where you don't really notice the interviewer.
@ilovecrap So, did you waste 52 minutes, 46 seconds like I did, or did your right brain insist on wasting another 4 minutes, 25 seconds like others did? If Jim was going to say anything meaningful during the rest of the interview, my left brain refused to tune with it due to that disharmonious tritone "I refuse to calculate the tip anymore" comment of his. If there was anything else worth responding to, my left brain refused to process it after witnessing such arrogance ;-)
Big impact or a feint trail, we all leave indelible mark on humanity. I would say Jim left something to be remembered by. His candor is refreshing. And I think he makes a lot of sense, especially with regards to what iTunes has become. Sometimes you forget that even mighty Apple has internal systems that aren't as thorough as they could be. Yes, a lot of what Jim experienced was probably during Steve's absence but examples like the Finder's inconsistency in places shows Apple's work is not done.
It's also just great that he *snuck* the sound into the ROM, instead of getting the go-ahead from corporate. Would anyone even try pulling that off nowadays?
I hate the startup sound. It's globby and stodgy, unlike mac/apple.

In Jurassic Park they're running Unix workstations so I highly doubt that they made the Mac startup sound.

Only reason the interviewer didn't talk much is probably because he don't understand english and asked pre set questions and just nodded.
