  • Banjo is the inbred mutant cousin of the acoustic guitar.

  • @msbj10 is THAT what they call it these days?

  • @zePippin xD maybe

  • They didn't talk about how the fifth string was attached. Great video though I love stuff like this. Especially when it involves the kind of music I listen to :)

  • WOW Slaves had this sort of equiptment to make banjos... COOL lol

  • I want a banjo so bad!!

  • awesome!

  • The background music in this clip is really horrible. What were they thinking? And why in the hell didn't they show how the pegboard was routed for the pearl inlay?

  • @JoshSitar I know it's like African lol DOES NOT FIT!

  • Guitar & Banjo are extremely different despite their similar looks. The tuning is different and the playing is COMPLETELY different. Banjo is much much much more complex to play than guitar. A good quality banjo weights = to or more than a Les Paul. Its harder to make a good Electric banjo because the head is so important to the sound. Very difficult to capture the sound with a pickup. Guitars & Banjos just have different purposes.

  • Acoustic banjos definitely owns acoustic guitars, but electric guitars own electric banjos.

  • My first job was making banjos.

  • 2:58 LOL EPIC FAIL!! watch

  • 3:55 LOL a drum!

  • i go to that music store its right down the street from me

  • Wow, nice work... And by saying nice I mean Awesome Job!

  • wow that is cool

  • @banjoman1437 this show is generally to show you how its made, hence the name of the show. Its not called "how to make it".

  • Isn't a banjo an Australian instrument?

  • @DIMATIF no

  • im gonna make one

  • yup. people have been playing the banjo up here for as long as they have in the US.

  • awesome!

  • Derivative of the west African akonting, which has 4 strings (3 full strings and 1 drone) arranged high string on top, same as on a 5-string. Played 3 fingers in a style nearly identical to Appalachian clawhammer. It became the American banjo when the akonting's gourd was replaced with a round cake box because the latter was more widely available to slave banjo makers.

  • 5 string is usually tuned open G (gDGBD) or D (aDF#AD or gDF#AD).

  • that's a nice banjo in tone and looks

  • @andr3w103 yes, but they can have different tunings

  • How is sound from an banjo produced?

  • Yes, because How It's Made, like Survivorman and numerous other shows on that channel are made in Canada. Let this be a lesson that Canadians have good programming too! And I'm not even Canadian!

  • banjo beats guitar 10 to 1

  • @banjoell dude, both are awesome

  • @banjoell Maybe if you jab your banjo's neck at a guitar. No other way.

  • @banjoell Maybe to rednecks.

  • @banjoell fuck u

  • Bluegrass is a derivative of country. The banjo was used in country decades before bluegrass came around. As for the notion of instruments used in most all country ruining a sub-genre of, well, itself--that's just nonsensical.

  • Look it up, it's true. Why is that idea so unbelievable?

  • they invented a stupid gourd thing not the modern day banjo

  • banjo is such a weird instrument... here is the story on how it was invented ...Once apon a time there was a guy who owned a guitar.. one he was running with his guitar when he suddenly fell over and landed on a snare drum...THE END

  • the banjo has 5 strings not 6

  • Depends what kind of banjo you're talking about. A plectrum banjo has 4 strings, a bluegrass, or standard/5 string banjo has 5. And a banjitar, or 6 string banjo has 6.

  • Except for 6 string banjos, which have 6 strings.

  • I've seen and heard gourd banjos that looked and sounded stunning. I've a 14" kettle gourd waiting for the proper piece of wood to carve a neck from.

  • Why is that so hard to believe?

  • Dude, banjos are badass.

  • @xshabootiex i know

  • @xshabootiex i shop at the place they film this at its rite down th street

  • The Banjo is the only American Invented instrument.

  • awesome! its my favorite show

  • The end is the best part!!

You think that guy sucks until he rips to Yankee Doodle!

  • That's a huge tone ring.

  • Thank you! I always wondered how it was made. I love to see more :)

  • AWSOME I WANT ONE!!!

  • great. thanks.

  • ive been playing for several years and never new what went into putting one together. thanks!
