@DJPeteJames Yep agree with ya there mate, quality ouse music is gone back underground and you really have to look hard to find it but its still there!!! kinda like back in '88-'89.
It's a real shame that I wasn't able to see 808 state at London O2 recently as they chickened out, but that meant that I got to see 2 hours of the legendary Orb instead.

It sounds so great, like so many songs I've heard from the British rave scene of the early 90's. I was born in 1991, and my first encounter with music must've been in 1994 or 1995, a time I can only vaguely remember. What sticks in my head though is some kind of sound, and the more I hear songs like these, I'm sure it was this sound.
Listening to records like these brings me back to a time I either wasn't even born, or I just was a little boy. It's still a familiar place in my head.
some of you guys are only showing how ignorant you are. @ penguicold - most of the names you mention are not making great house, only loops that sound loud, save one or two more interesting tracks. I don't agree, and I don't think you can compare. On that hand I'd say Laurent Garnier and Richie Hawtin are very different artists, and Hawtin in the 90's was way ballsier. Recent music is neither better nor worse, it's just different, and often times more boring and less creative.
@HDLone Feel sorry for you mate. I'm just turning 40 and i remember every second of this era, lots of good bands and tunes kicking about. But at the same time i missed some of my fave bands in their time, like The Dooors.
saxophone + reverb = instant win. (laurent garnier\mark knight - man with the red face? paul rich\dubfire - split the line?). rainy-day-time-traveling.
@HDLone 808state is classic, but techno & house keeps getting better & better! I would never wish having to live in the 90s again on my worse enemy! Listen to AFX, Dubfire, Richie Hawtin\Plastikman, Mathew Jonson, Markus Homm.
Great - great tune from a fantastic era!!!! being born in 69 I've known 4 era's the nineties were ACE!!!!!!!! got to agree with the comments I'm reading here.....guys ya know where it's at....as for having a time machine & going back - if only!! @HDLone Out of interest, why do you think today's music is crap? I tend to agree with you, I think at least 90% is crap but would like to know why from the perspective of someone your age. Cheers
@HDLone Hey, the music that you heard on the radio and TV in the 90's was crap for the most part too. There's good music being played out there now, played by good bands, but, your not going to hear it on the radio. Your going to have to look for it, just like we had to in the 90's.
Does anyone on this thread happn to know if the Hacienda-style track heard on BBC-7 Ages Of Rock-British Indie is by 808 State? It is heard at about 12 mins in just before the stone roses do waterfall?

I love this track! One of my favorite Classic House tracks ever! I'm givin this a proper big 5* because this song is just beautiful. Cheers for makin this track,, 808 State!!! ) ) ) d(-_-)b ( ( ( Real chillin and relaxin to listen to xD
Well Drum 'n' Bass nd House music are two different genres. Old school DnB is fantastic nd actually better than the new shit these days. But what I would call this is Classic House because it's from the years House music was born and you could call it Old School Drum 'n' Bass if you wanted. Yea I see your point here ^.^
yes you re right i can hear out parts from dnb and house but i think it was the time where rave is split out to dnb and house so dnb and house doesn t realy exist...or am i wrong?
Well where you said "i can hear out parts from dnb,," isn't actually DnB. It's Classic House. DnB would be a little faster tempo and more drums. Rave is a dance party,, which plays electronic music and normally is a late night event. In my opinion,, rave parties nowadays have been mostly Hardcore music which,, in my opinion,, is a load of crap. With Hardcore it's all fake nothing is made with effort,, it's too fast as well. But I love Acid House (music like 808 state) and Chill Out/DnB
yes but in that time (round about 87-91) there wasn t really any house or DnB i ever heard rave from that time...so i thought its born out of rave...i never heard house, techno or hardcore only DnB and now i see that "old school DnB" is much nicer than DnB today (much more melodic)...but now i ever heard its hardcore, house or acid so what was the mothership all of that??
Well it's just that Dance music is evolving into something even worse and we need more Acid House,, Old School DnB,, DnB/Chill Out and then we would be back with the good times! xD
And I understand now on what you mean by Old School DnB,, you mean Acid House right? Other Artist's like 808 State? What I think on what you hear nowadays is the new age shitty Drum 'n' Bass and Hardcore where the tempo is too fast to dance to and all you have to do is bounce your head.
Yea it would be an awesome party. A subwoofer sound system and high quality decks,, a large group of Acid/Progressive House and DnB/Chill Out Ravers (Old school style heheh ; ) ) in a beautiful beach prefferably at sunset evening or night and that would be the perfect House party! xD
@jarand4 you have your own elevator?! Gosh, how some people live, aye? Joy ride - to steal a car, and drive it around.

can we say its old school drumnbass please?^^;)
Rahra2424 2 years ago
Well Drum 'n' Bass nd House music are two different genres. Old school DnB is fantastic nd actually better than the new shit these days. But what I would call this is Classic House because it's from the years House music was born and you could call it Old School Drum 'n' Bass if you wanted. Yea I see your point here ^.^

yes you re right i can hear out parts from dnb and house but i think it was the time where rave is split out to dnb and house so dnb and house doesn t realy exist...or am i wrong?
Rahra2424 2 years ago
Well where you said "i can hear out parts from dnb,," isn't actually DnB. It's Classic House. DnB would be a little faster tempo and more drums. Rave is a dance party,, which plays electronic music and normally is a late night event. In my opinion,, rave parties nowadays have been mostly Hardcore music which,, in my opinion,, is a load of crap. With Hardcore it's all fake nothing is made with effort,, it's too fast as well. But I love Acid House (music like 808 state) and Chill Out/DnB
TezzaBrahh 2 years ago
yes but in that time (round about 87-91) there wasn t really any house or DnB i ever heard rave from that time...so i thought its born out of rave...i never heard house, techno or hardcore only DnB and now i see that "old school DnB" is much nicer than DnB today (much more melodic)...but now i ever heard its hardcore, house or acid so what was the mothership all of that??
Rahra2424 2 years ago
Well it's just that Dance music is evolving into something even worse and we need more Acid House,, Old School DnB,, DnB/Chill Out and then we would be back with the good times! xD
And I understand now on what you mean by Old School DnB,, you mean Acid House right? Other Artist's like 808 State? What I think on what you hear nowadays is the new age shitty Drum 'n' Bass and Hardcore where the tempo is too fast to dance to and all you have to do is bounce your head.

löl i google it up you right its acid house not DnB;)
i see we agree
Rahra2424 2 years ago
Yea lol,, it's great music. I think they should bring this type of Dance music back,, don't you agree?
TezzaBrahh 2 years ago
yes that should be a great party...but in england you will have more luck as me in germany;)
Rahra2424 2 years ago
Yea it would be an awesome party. A subwoofer sound system and high quality decks,, a large group of Acid/Progressive House and DnB/Chill Out Ravers (Old school style heheh ; ) ) in a beautiful beach prefferably at sunset evening or night and that would be the perfect House party! xD
TezzaBrahh 2 years ago
And why not in Germany mate?
TezzaBrahh 2 years ago
