I don't care about comic books yet I rant about them for several minutes as if I do. It's like I'll vomit out any word that I can vaguely shape around democrats or the white trash that takes me seriously just to keep talking!
Look, I really don't care who or what race Spider-man is; as long as someone in red and blue spandex is kicking ass and flinging webs, I say have at who's behind the mask.
i love it.........oh and glenn beck is a crazy person.....i dont listen to crazy people............i just hope that the stories are good, i mean this kids experiences will be totally different from petes for obvious reasons......fingers crossed..
We're so fucking brilliant we can't even differentiate between race, ethnicity, and nationality. What the fuck is half puertorican half black? Black is a race. Hispanic is an ethnicity. Puertorican is a nationality. African slaves were brought to all areas of the Americas. There are white hispanics, black hispanics, and mestizo hispanics.
People actually enjoy that type of rambling incoherent bigoted talk? It sounded as if they guy couldn't formulate an single complete thought. What did translate, albeit just barely is that the guy is a racist moron. Plus you can't ignore how dismissive he was of comics in general, even as he was stewing about *gasp* DELIBERATE minority representation in them.
Like how he also said the new spider-man is half gay... even though he isn't gay. Glenn Beck is full on retard who needs to just die in a house fire or something,
Funny video though. That kind of stuff would be something J. Jonah Jameson would say!
Ha! I dont see anything racist about it! He's right! Spiderman has always been a young white boy from NY. That who he is! And Now in this stupid politically correct present day, they feel like they have to apply to everyone or they will be accused of being racist! Everything is changing in fear of "offending" people, with things that shouldn't be offensive. People get offended by the simple harmless truth! Just look up Brad Stine's video on political correctness! It sums it all up!
@CrazyChristian92 yeah.wrong. Let me introduce you to Miguel O'Hara, Spider-Man 2099 series started in 1992. Now go back to suckling at the teat of stupidity.
@CrazyChristian92 That young white boy from Queens DIED. Okay. Get over it. Sometimes, when you're fighting supervillains and cosmic threats, and you're just a kid, you get killed. And when you get killed, sometimes somebody else has to finish the job you left unfinished. And if that somebody else is black/latino, then so what? Marvel has reinvented Spider-Man again and again, and this time, they decided to give kids of color somebody to look up to. What's the freakin' harm in that?
Heck, beyond that Miles Morales is only going to be Spider Man in the Ultimate comics. In the main comics, everything will be just the way it always was.
@Cap285 Why? Because racists won't buy the comic? Or because there's no way to tell an intriguing story with a guy who sticks to walls AND is not white? I bet the former, because based on the rest of Bendis' extremely large catalog of work, he seems to be good at what he does. I stopped reading Ultimate Spidey when they switched artists, but this is interesting enough to get me to take another look. A new character will be a fresh start.
@chillyche A fan who doesn't like deviation from the source material is a racist? Spider-Man is an icon and Marvels flagship character, people won't stand for it. I've been reading comics well over 30 years. Guess how many Blacks and Hispanics I've seen in comic shops? I can count them on one hand. This is blatant PC pandering by Marvel. Think it's a coincidence this new Spider-Man looks like Obama? As if the Obama issue wasn't sickening enough.
@Cap285 So now all black people look like Obama? Just kidding. Just because your local comic shop isn't overflowing with people of color doesn't mean that people of color don't read comics. However, people of color might read even more comics if they had some cool comic book heroes that represented their communities. Yeah, we've got Storm. We've got Luke Cage and Black Panther and Blade, all of whom are C-list. There's Steel and John Stewart and Static (Shock). These aren't A-List characters.
@chillyche Luke Cage always protected his neighborhood. Storm can control the weather itself and is married to the King. THE KING, of Wakanda. Blade is just plain cool. All of them stand for good. Not being A-list takes nothing away from these characters. They are great on their merit. Ronnie Coleman would be a great Luke Cage. Jay cutler would not.
@Cap285 Hey, Storm was always my favorite X-Man. And I thought Black Panther looked sooo cool when I was a kid. Of all those characters, Storm is the most visible, but the rest, let's not kid ourselves. They're not mainstream. They're obscure. In fact, until the film, people barely knew who Blade was. People, whether they're fans of comics or not all know and recognize Spidey and Superman and Batman -- the big three. You show your average cat Luke Cage, and they'll have no idea. None.
@Cap285 You, and many others are complaining about the "PC pandering" while decrying that it won't work and that there are hardly any black or Hispanic fans. How and why would one pander to an audience that is allegedly so small that in 30 years you can count less than five? And if we're really just scared that this is another Ben Reilly (the OTHER alternate Spider-Man) then why do the complaints continue to focus on the race of the guy?
@chillyche Because they should like characters base on merit, what they stand for, etc. Not because of race/color. That seems like a poor reason to like a hero. I'll say again, the writers are lazy and should come up with something new. Put their thought process into a new hero of color, not waste it on stupid bullshit like 'Maximum Cloneage'. I am no Ben Reilly fan. The complaints focus on race because it is PC pandering as I said, plain and simple.
@Cap285 It seems like a poor reason to dislike a character too. Why not give Miles a chance? Even if the the decision to make the new Spider-Man a dude of color WAS politically motivated, that doesn't make it a bad decision. The decision to make Peter Parker a working class nerd from Queens was also a calculated move. Stan Lee specifically wanted to create a new kind of hero. In its own way, the original book was deconstructionist.
@Cap285 You also know for a fact that kids like heroes they can identify with. That's basic psychology. That's why people like the sports team from their home town, even if the team is mediocre. They're "your" team. How else can you explain the Mets? Just kidding. It's easy for white people to like Superman based on his merit -- they also get somebody who's white! And Batman. Oooh, or Spider-Man. Maybe Wolverine? Well, he is Canadian, so there's that.
@Cap285 ALSO, Ultimate Spider-Man is a story about teen-aged Peter Parker dealing with being a teenager and being a superhero. It's possible that the story was used up. I stopped reading around issue 111, because, well, the character was worn out. A new person donning the suit interests me, because it's a new character, with new challenges. If Ultimate Peter had lived, then before long, he'd have to grow up, and it'd be the same as Spectacular, so, honestly, a change was needed.
@chillyche Well, 15-19 seems like awhile to keep a comic going. Could have followed Peter from getting his powers to seeing them develop, which in my opinion they never did. Instead he just seemed to stay wimpy which, I'll admit was aggravating. That would have been great change. Watching him mature (mind and powers) and telling Nick Fury to shove it. But deviation from the source material is too much change.
@chillyche They will lose more fans than they gain. People will hate this, and they'll bring Peter Parker back. Then those who green-lighted this atrocity will be fired. This is lazy. Invent a new ethnic character. What's wrong with Blade, Luke Cage and Black Panther? Which reminds me, surely when the aforementioned characters are changed to white guys you'll have no problem with that? Who are you trying to kid. I'm sure you would scream 'racist' if Black Panther was retooled as a white male.
@Cap285 You do realize that the percentage of relevant characters of color is pretty low, right? And that white men are not under-represented in comics, certainly not in the A-List category. Bats, Supes, Spidey -- the big three. White men. You have to understand the difference between reducing minority representation and reducing majority representation, you can't think switching Aang to a white kid is the same as INVENTING A NEW CHARACTER who takes on the MANTLE of an existing character?
@chillyche Yes I do. What's done is done. This seems like jumping on a bandwagon. Much like the Blackhawk fans of last year. Are there or are there not young people of color who are artists/writers with ideas for a hero. I know there has to be. It's not my fault the big three are white. I have nothing to do with that.
@Cap285 Incidentally we do have our own characters. We often have a hard time securing publishing rights, but we do from time to time. But you know what else? Sometimes, black parents get their kids cards with a black Santa Claus on it. Why? Because we love Santa too. He's a made up character (SPOILER ALERT) so we can envision him looking like our own kindly grandpa. That's what this new Spider-Man will give kids a chance to do.
@chillyche Ok great. Fine. I always looked at Santa as kindly man who was good to ALL children. Legend portrays him as white. Leave it at that. He brings gifts to all the children of the world. Who cares what color he is?
And these lazy writers need to come up with a new hero, not ride the coattails of Spider-Man.
@Cap285 White people legends portray Santa as white. That's the thing about fictional characters... they can be portrayed however you want. Also, keep in mind, MILES MORALES IS A NEW CHARACTER who lives in Ultimate Spidey's world. Nobody is making Peter Parker black. Let's just remember that black people MIGHT just be inspired by Spidey, too, and want to take up the mantle.
@Cap285 "People will hate this" you say. Which people? You? Will you hate this? Speak for yourself. I'm people, and I think this is a cool idea. And so do most people I know, except one of my friends who just thinks that once Parker dies, there should be no more Spider-Man because he's only got maybe 50 issues in him anyway. So, I ask, if this will cost them more fans than it will gain them, how is this an effective form of pandering?
@chillyche Me and millions of others who have expressed their disgust with this. As far as your effective pandering comment, Marvel simply seems to want to alienate there loyalists of DECADES (me), to win over a new crowd who has really never seemed to read much comics in my opinion. They don't seem to know who has been buying comics all these years. It just goes back to the stupid PC crap. Fine. You think they'll gain a fan like me who sunk I don't want to know how much money into their
@Cap285 Look, Marvel isn't so stupid as to think that its audience is majority minority. See, it even looks silly to type that. They know that their fan-base is still primarily white males. Sure, like I said, there are plenty of comic fans of color, and there are plenty of women and girls who love comics. But we both know and agree that the majority of comics fans are white boys/men/manchilds. Marvel still expects to sell this comic to white folk. Will white folk buy it?
@chillyche Funny how I bought their comics since the age of 5 up until Joe Quesada started mucking it up. The need to keep their politics out of comics. I'm not buying anything of Marvel. Ever. Again. They lost me. And good luck picking up a new fan who is going to sink his/her hard earned cash in their product.
@Cap285 Not to be an academic, but, every work of literature, art, fiction, whatever is political. Some overtly so, some covertly so, some despite the authors' best attempts to the contrary. They are necessarily subjective and as a result have a point of view. Everything you choose to show and everything you choose not to show. Those are choices, motivated by myriad factors, but the outcome has political ramifications...
@chillyche I see them. I'm not that dumb. Just don't really belong in comics. For example. Liberals seem to want Captain America on a soap box complaining about Bush. Conservatives want him dragging Bin-Laden out of a cave by his ankle. In my opinion, Cap would do EXACTLY what his commander in chief told him to do no matter what party, etc.
@Cap285 Comics take place in a "real" world, particularly Marvel comics which take place in a world with New York City as opposed to Gotham or Metropolis or whatever. The real world has political issues. Issues that affect the readers. There's no reason not to touch on those in comics. Fantasy that can be relevant is great.
@chillyche This is true. I don't think to the point of forcing a political agenda. That is exactly why I quit reading comics. I agree. Fantasy that can be relevant IS great. But I read comics to escape. I get enough politics in the news.
@Cap285 I agree that comics are often escapist in nature, certainly superhero comics. My personal taste is for them to have themes that are relevant more than specifics. Magneto is a holocaust survivor. That's politics and it's important to his character. That's why X-Men is so successful is that the idea of persecution of the outsider is not limited to any particular civil rights struggle, even if it can be analogous. Most everybody can relate to feeling different at some point.
@Cap285 AND, if Black Spidey is issue after issue of Brian Michael I'm Not Black Bendis writing after-school diversity specials, then I'm with you, I'm done. But if he's just a dude, that's black and latino, and as a result he has some different experiences, but also being a NEW hero and a new hero donning an existing hero's persona is ALSO the cause of his different experiences, then I'll continue to be interested. Although, to be fair, I don't have as much time for comics as I used to.
@Cap285 I agree with you about Cap. I think the most interesting thing about Captain America is that dude has been asleep for X amount of years, and the world has changed since he was last active. The idea that things aren't as simple as they were back in the "punch out Hitler" days is central to the character. All he really has to go on is his experience as a soldier, his ideals, and his own moral compass.
@Cap285 Hey, if you've been following Ultimate Spidey for the last whatever, 150 issues, then you must like Bendis' writing, since the artists have changed. Why not give homeboy the benefit of the doubt? You're declaring that you hate this new character before you've read him. I'm excited, it's a new idea. I'll give it a shot. If it's tired, I'll stop reading the book (again). I guess Marvel is hoping I can offset the loss of revenue from you and millions of others who are disgusted.
@chillyche I'm sorry my friend. Marvel and DC have just annoyed me to the point of no return. If this was truly a new character, one of ethnic origin, with his own powers and back story, I'd be all over it. Probably be pretty damn cool.
I think it will fail. I could very well be wrong as wrong can be. Vince McMahon did it and is richer than ever from it.
@Cap285 First of all, I'm not sure how you're reading racism into that statement. Second of all I was paraphrasing "Spiderman has always been a young white boy from NY" which @CrazyChristian92 wrote.
@CrazyChristian92 No one ever got offended about Spider-Man being white, genius. Peter Parker was white, this is supposed to be a different person wearing the costume. They just felt like creating one. It's the number of people up in arms about it that speaks volumes about us. Fuckers acting as if whiteness was an essential part of the story. GTFOH
Beck seems to be confused as to how comic books are created, saying this is being done "intentionally". Well, yes, of course it was done intentionally. How else is a work of fiction created if not intentionally?
This is almost unfair to J. Jonah Jameson. He's not racist, he just irrationally hates Spider-Man.
@dustin44444 Yeah, he can. I'd say comparing the young men and women who died in Norway to Hitler Youth makes him more of an asshole than this. Not that this isn't him being as asshole, but anytime you Godwin yourself you are being a huge asshole.

Whats the big deal, I'd really like to hear the think on this. We can have a black president but don't go making SpiderMan black, too far.

What's the freakin' harm in that?
chillyche 6 months ago 21
@chillyche
Heck, beyond that Miles Morales is only going to be Spider Man in the Ultimate comics. In the main comics, everything will be just the way it always was.
KennyStrife 6 months ago
@chillyche It. Will. Fail.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 Why? Because racists won't buy the comic? Or because there's no way to tell an intriguing story with a guy who sticks to walls AND is not white? I bet the former, because based on the rest of Bendis' extremely large catalog of work, he seems to be good at what he does. I stopped reading Ultimate Spidey when they switched artists, but this is interesting enough to get me to take another look. A new character will be a fresh start.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche A fan who doesn't like deviation from the source material is a racist? Spider-Man is an icon and Marvels flagship character, people won't stand for it. I've been reading comics well over 30 years. Guess how many Blacks and Hispanics I've seen in comic shops? I can count them on one hand. This is blatant PC pandering by Marvel. Think it's a coincidence this new Spider-Man looks like Obama? As if the Obama issue wasn't sickening enough.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 So now all black people look like Obama? Just kidding. Just because your local comic shop isn't overflowing with people of color doesn't mean that people of color don't read comics. However, people of color might read even more comics if they had some cool comic book heroes that represented their communities. Yeah, we've got Storm. We've got Luke Cage and Black Panther and Blade, all of whom are C-list. There's Steel and John Stewart and Static (Shock). These aren't A-List characters.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche Luke Cage always protected his neighborhood. Storm can control the weather itself and is married to the King. THE KING, of Wakanda. Blade is just plain cool. All of them stand for good. Not being A-list takes nothing away from these characters. They are great on their merit. Ronnie Coleman would be a great Luke Cage. Jay cutler would not.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 Hey, Storm was always my favorite X-Man. And I thought Black Panther looked sooo cool when I was a kid. Of all those characters, Storm is the most visible, but the rest, let's not kid ourselves. They're not mainstream. They're obscure. In fact, until the film, people barely knew who Blade was. People, whether they're fans of comics or not all know and recognize Spidey and Superman and Batman -- the big three. You show your average cat Luke Cage, and they'll have no idea. None.
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 You, and many others are complaining about the "PC pandering" while decrying that it won't work and that there are hardly any black or Hispanic fans. How and why would one pander to an audience that is allegedly so small that in 30 years you can count less than five? And if we're really just scared that this is another Ben Reilly (the OTHER alternate Spider-Man) then why do the complaints continue to focus on the race of the guy?
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche Because they should like characters base on merit, what they stand for, etc. Not because of race/color. That seems like a poor reason to like a hero. I'll say again, the writers are lazy and should come up with something new. Put their thought process into a new hero of color, not waste it on stupid bullshit like 'Maximum Cloneage'. I am no Ben Reilly fan. The complaints focus on race because it is PC pandering as I said, plain and simple.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 It seems like a poor reason to dislike a character too. Why not give Miles a chance? Even if the the decision to make the new Spider-Man a dude of color WAS politically motivated, that doesn't make it a bad decision. The decision to make Peter Parker a working class nerd from Queens was also a calculated move. Stan Lee specifically wanted to create a new kind of hero. In its own way, the original book was deconstructionist.
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 You also know for a fact that kids like heroes they can identify with. That's basic psychology. That's why people like the sports team from their home town, even if the team is mediocre. They're "your" team. How else can you explain the Mets? Just kidding. It's easy for white people to like Superman based on his merit -- they also get somebody who's white! And Batman. Oooh, or Spider-Man. Maybe Wolverine? Well, he is Canadian, so there's that.
chillyche 6 months ago
Wouldn't matter if he was Asian, Indian, etc. Seems strange he's a combination of the two most 'popular' minorities for lesser use of a term.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 I don't know if you've ever been to New York... but, Black and Latino is NOT a weird or rare mix. Maybe my man Miles is Dominican.
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 ALSO, Ultimate Spider-Man is a story about teen-aged Peter Parker dealing with being a teenager and being a superhero. It's possible that the story was used up. I stopped reading around issue 111, because, well, the character was worn out. A new person donning the suit interests me, because it's a new character, with new challenges. If Ultimate Peter had lived, then before long, he'd have to grow up, and it'd be the same as Spectacular, so, honestly, a change was needed.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche Well, 15-19 seems like awhile to keep a comic going. Could have followed Peter from getting his powers to seeing them develop, which in my opinion they never did. Instead he just seemed to stay wimpy which, I'll admit was aggravating. That would have been great change. Watching him mature (mind and powers) and telling Nick Fury to shove it. But deviation from the source material is too much change.
Cap285 6 months ago
@chillyche They will lose more fans than they gain. People will hate this, and they'll bring Peter Parker back. Then those who green-lighted this atrocity will be fired. This is lazy. Invent a new ethnic character. What's wrong with Blade, Luke Cage and Black Panther? Which reminds me, surely when the aforementioned characters are changed to white guys you'll have no problem with that? Who are you trying to kid. I'm sure you would scream 'racist' if Black Panther was retooled as a white male.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 You do realize that the percentage of relevant characters of color is pretty low, right? And that white men are not under-represented in comics, certainly not in the A-List category. Bats, Supes, Spidey -- the big three. White men. You have to understand the difference between reducing minority representation and reducing majority representation, you can't think switching Aang to a white kid is the same as INVENTING A NEW CHARACTER who takes on the MANTLE of an existing character?
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche Yes I do. What's done is done. This seems like jumping on a bandwagon. Much like the Blackhawk fans of last year. Are there or are there not young people of color who are artists/writers with ideas for a hero. I know there has to be. It's not my fault the big three are white. I have nothing to do with that.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 Incidentally we do have our own characters. We often have a hard time securing publishing rights, but we do from time to time. But you know what else? Sometimes, black parents get their kids cards with a black Santa Claus on it. Why? Because we love Santa too. He's a made up character (SPOILER ALERT) so we can envision him looking like our own kindly grandpa. That's what this new Spider-Man will give kids a chance to do.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche Ok great. Fine. I always looked at Santa as kindly man who was good to ALL children. Legend portrays him as white. Leave it at that. He brings gifts to all the children of the world. Who cares what color he is?
And these lazy writers need to come up with a new hero, not ride the coattails of Spider-Man.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 White people legends portray Santa as white. That's the thing about fictional characters... they can be portrayed however you want. Also, keep in mind, MILES MORALES IS A NEW CHARACTER who lives in Ultimate Spidey's world. Nobody is making Peter Parker black. Let's just remember that black people MIGHT just be inspired by Spidey, too, and want to take up the mantle.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche I can't argue. That would be a good thing.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 "People will hate this" you say. Which people? You? Will you hate this? Speak for yourself. I'm people, and I think this is a cool idea. And so do most people I know, except one of my friends who just thinks that once Parker dies, there should be no more Spider-Man because he's only got maybe 50 issues in him anyway. So, I ask, if this will cost them more fans than it will gain them, how is this an effective form of pandering?
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche Me and millions of others who have expressed their disgust with this. As far as your effective pandering comment, Marvel simply seems to want to alienate there loyalists of DECADES (me), to win over a new crowd who has really never seemed to read much comics in my opinion. They don't seem to know who has been buying comics all these years. It just goes back to the stupid PC crap. Fine. You think they'll gain a fan like me who sunk I don't want to know how much money into their
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 Look, Marvel isn't so stupid as to think that its audience is majority minority. See, it even looks silly to type that. They know that their fan-base is still primarily white males. Sure, like I said, there are plenty of comic fans of color, and there are plenty of women and girls who love comics. But we both know and agree that the majority of comics fans are white boys/men/manchilds. Marvel still expects to sell this comic to white folk. Will white folk buy it?
chillyche 6 months ago

Those are choices, motivated by myriad factors, but the outcome has political ramifications...
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 Also, if you didn't see the political undertones in X-Men, I don't know what to tell you.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche I see them. I'm not that dumb. Just don't really belong in comics. For example. Liberals seem to want Captain America on a soap box complaining about Bush. Conservatives want him dragging Bin-Laden out of a cave by his ankle. In my opinion, Cap would do EXACTLY what his commander in chief told him to do no matter what party, etc.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 Comics take place in a "real" world, particularly Marvel comics which take place in a world with New York City as opposed to Gotham or Metropolis or whatever. The real world has political issues. Issues that affect the readers. There's no reason not to touch on those in comics. Fantasy that can be relevant is great.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche This is true. I don't think to the point of forcing a political agenda. That is exactly why I quit reading comics. I agree. Fantasy that can be relevant IS great. But I read comics to escape. I get enough politics in the news.
Cap285 6 months ago
@Cap285 I agree that comics are often escapist in nature, certainly superhero comics. My personal taste is for them to have themes that are relevant more than specifics. Magneto is a holocaust survivor. That's politics and it's important to his character. That's why X-Men is so successful is that the idea of persecution of the outsider is not limited to any particular civil rights struggle, even if it can be analogous. Most everybody can relate to feeling different at some point.
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 AND, if Black Spidey is issue after issue of Brian Michael I'm Not Black Bendis writing after-school diversity specials, then I'm with you, I'm done. But if he's just a dude, that's black and latino, and as a result he has some different experiences, but also being a NEW hero and a new hero donning an existing hero's persona is ALSO the cause of his different experiences, then I'll continue to be interested. Although, to be fair, I don't have as much time for comics as I used to.
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 I agree with you about Cap. I think the most interesting thing about Captain America is that dude has been asleep for X amount of years, and the world has changed since he was last active. The idea that things aren't as simple as they were back in the "punch out Hitler" days is central to the character. All he really has to go on is his experience as a soldier, his ideals, and his own moral compass.
chillyche 6 months ago
@Cap285 Hey, if you've been following Ultimate Spidey for the last whatever, 150 issues, then you must like Bendis' writing, since the artists have changed. Why not give homeboy the benefit of the doubt? You're declaring that you hate this new character before you've read him. I'm excited, it's a new idea. I'll give it a shot. If it's tired, I'll stop reading the book (again). I guess Marvel is hoping I can offset the loss of revenue from you and millions of others who are disgusted.
chillyche 6 months ago
@chillyche I'm sorry my friend. Marvel and DC have just annoyed me to the point of no return. If this was truly a new character, one of ethnic origin, with his own powers and back story, I'd be all over it. Probably be pretty damn cool.
I think it will fail. I could very well be wrong as wrong can be. Vince McMahon did it and is richer than ever from it.
