Just seemed to me that when they made this movie, they must have really intended it to be for laughs, from the kid's stupid sounding voice (US version), the goofy grin on Jet Jaguar's face, and Megalon getting dropkicked by Godzilla. And another scene Gigan and Megalon were batting Jaguar back and forth like a volleyball, it was all just too much.
This was one of my favorite Godzillia movies back in the day, second only to Terror of Mechagodzilla, but looking back I have to ask why??? why did they have to put in that blasted Robot, and why couldn't they have Megallon and Gigan rip that overgrown useless pile of junk in two
It sucks because Megalon doesn't really destroy much of anything, except for a bridge. Everything else are scenes lifted from other movies, even worse, when the planes attack Megalon, you can see Gigan's claw knocking them down.

Man, when I was a young kid in the 70's, I went to see this in the theatre. I was a huge Godzilla fan back then. The night I saw it apparently was the last night they were showing it. As we were leaving one of the employees of the theatre was outside removing the poster from the frame thingy outside and I asked him if I could have it. He rolled it up and said "hear ya go!" Funny memory...lol

Originally this movie was Jet Jaguar Vs Megalon, but production was halted because Toho execs felt Jet Jaguar wasn't a strong enough character to carry the movie. So a rewrite was done to include Godzilla and Gigan.
The cheesey Godzilla suit was cobbled together in a week, and the movie was finished in three weeks.
It's ironic that Megalon, one of the more fearsome-looking Toho monsters, ended up in such a cut-rate movie.
Toho wasn't even trying at this point. Half the monster action is stock footage from previous films, and the funniest part is that the filmmakers didn't even bother making sure the footage made sense.

And yes, we DID get the UNCUT version (minus the opening credits)here in the States--in the first month in theaters. After that, came the infamous cut-n-slice version we hate so much.
This was when the Godzilla franchise was at it's particular lowest. Lucky enough, this film is filed under the 'So Bad It's Good' catagory, neighbored by timeless classics upon the likes of "Plan 9", "Bride of the Monster", "Robot Monster" and others. No matter what mood you're in, this particular "style" of film-making has the unfailing ability to put a smile on your face. Thank god(zilla) that they gave back Godzilla's integrity in the followup classic "Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla". It's great!
