I still own this on my C16. I actually like it. One of the first C16 titles & the graphics weren't bad, not much you can expect from it. The main trick is not to worry about getting a line of fruits as much, make more sure you get 7 points or over for the bonuses. It's a good feeling to win the jackpot as it's quite tricky and more down to luck. This is a game with an end once you reach $250. After that another horrible din plays. Good game. Las Vegas by Anirog is better though. Good retrospect.
I remember my father buying me a c64 bullnose in i think 1984 and i was addictied to siren city and splat also this version on the c64...i was only seven years old at the time and the memories will never go...Games today are just not the same...Yes the graphics are some what real but the game playability is just not the same as it used to be all them years ago as the simplicity has gone...By the way steve..your vids are not boring but brilliant..Best regards
@azshaw123 I agree entirely that modern games aren't the same... though that's not always a bad thing. Simplicity and complexity both have their places. I like the simple stuff on handhelds... like the only stuff I play on the move is retro arcade conversion on my GBA SP.
When I'm at home though, I like something with a bit more to get into.
I'm glad you're enjoying my vids, and relieved that they aren't boring. I can't tell, with my own work :)
No need to apologise, Steve. Videos like these need to be made for things that need to be said.
Such as, why the blazes were games like this EVER made?! There's nothing to achieve what so ever, and hell, nowadays you can play on the internet (with real money, sadly).
Plus this one's piss poor with the whacky programming and sound affects.
I remember buying Fruit Machine Simulator by Codemasters on my ZX Spectrum + back in '87. Being Code Masters back then it was only £1.99 a budget game at the time. I remember being impressed with the 48k digitized music for the game and it was a pretty decent sim as far as Fruit Machine Sims go I suppose but then their longevity is extremely limited as if you don't win money what is the point of them lol.
@DLiberator78 This does look like a pretty decent Fruit Machine Simulator for the C16 but then again FMS don't really push the hardware even the 8-bit hardware of the 80s. Thanks for showing this game nonetheless Steve, it is still interesting to see games of old good or bad. :-)
@macwhoelse It's like remembering a bad case of gastroenteritis. You remember how utterly terrible it was, which makes you appreciate not having it now :D
Pretty good for a 16k machine. I actually liked Fruit machine games. My brother and I used to compete with each other when we were younger to see how much we could win to annoy each other. Ah, the happy days of sibling rivalry
This game is one of those slot machines you can match numbers as well as pictures. You had 3 ones which means you could have held them to get an addictional 1 to make 4 ones up to give you a winnings.
How, that's one bad loading system. I hated on the tape games when you would have to wait an age just for the loading screen to be loaded. What is it with pastel colours on these games? The game it'self does not look to bad for what it is. I had one similar on the Vic and spent ages trying too see how much I could rank up :o)
I think gambling doesn't translate very well on games and computers, like those poker games nothing like the real thing. Surprised anyone paid money for this! But all slot machines in my local pub have four reels!!
@kevinjmann The ones on Playjam and Sky Vegas are good though and there are play for free and play for real options on the vegas ones. Playjam one is free but addictive.
Short of fivers ejecting somewhere out of the c16 when you win I don't think anything is going to get people to rush out and grab this one. :)
Good to see all the same, although I think the worst loading games were those ones where you die once and then have to load the entire tape again, grrr, who's bright idea was that then? :)
I had this game for the PC. I got it between maybe 1989 and 1992. It was on a 3.5" disc. It was an old game by then and I don't know where I got it but I played it a fair bit. When the numbers were flashing on the bottom, that was an option of collecting the money or gambling for more (pressing F3 or F2 or whatever). I never really understood what combinations paid out and what the numbers next to the fruit meant, etc but it was still slightly fun as a kid.
Commodore tape loading is crazy on virtually any device.
There's no need for it to load that multi-part in such a way right? It looks like it was programmed in basic.
When I was a kid we actually had one of these machines in our attick - freeplay. I never had the urge to put in money on a real machine. It was possible to set the 'chanches of winning' from inside the machine.
@markvergeer I used to enjoy "one arm bandits" when I was a very young kid. They were entirely mechanical, and had none of the flashing lights, hold buttons, mini games or whatever. There was just a certain charm about pulling that lever and hoping to win a few pence.
I do not even recall a thing about the C16 here back in the day, I do not think it had much of a showing in the US/Canada and only discovered it a few years ago researching old computers. Not sure what the thinking was for the marketing of this machine.
@MaximumRD I think they were just trying to cover all the different sectors of the market. Unfortunately, they didn't check to see if this particular sector was already filled, or worse, saturated.
Wow, this is what Richard Branson was talking about when he was interviewed in the latest Click about "Virgin Gaming, Gamers will be able to have a little flutter and win money playing video games online" ....or possibly not :S
I LOVED THIS GAME, BECAUSE IT NEVER GOT MY MONEY TO PLAY. aside from the purchase.

I had one of those recently. I dreamt I was playing some godawful game on a really crappy computer..... oh.... wait.....

You mention that you don't see the point of fruit machines on computers as you do not win anything. . . the same applies to real fruit machines ;)

Ah yes.... paying £30 for NES games ;)

STOP THAT BEEPING! :)

You don't have to apologise, buddy! You can only do as well as the tools you work with and this game...well...
I did chuckle when it beeped a lot in the middle, I think it'd tripped out or something. :P
Another stellar C16 find, goodness me, who needs any of these modern-day consoles anyway? :P
