  • Fan-fucking-tastic!

  • Only Guitarist that made me think there's somebody better than Hendrix!

  • @ximib12 he is when it comes to being technical about the guitar, he is just unbelieveable.

  • @ximib12 Ever hear of a little band named Chicago?

  • @TheCnut69

Yeah we've heard of Chicago, what does that have to do with serious blues? I don't see the connection.

  • @TheCnut69 whats with them >?

  • blues at its best!!

  • in 9 minutes he achieved what 99.9% of guitarists wont achieve in their whole lives

  • you know just sit back and smoke a big fat one close your fuckin eyes shut the fuck up and listen and don't think just lay there and enjoy.come people .

  • Duane is In my top three guitarists. Prob have alot of hate, but him, Eddy Van Halen, Nancy Wilson...Oh, add a 4th.... Angus. So many. But love you Duane! RIP

  • 15 people cant find their ass with both hands

  • his guitar tone was one of the best......god takes the good ones early.

  • @docdrumz yeah I know I love Duane,Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, Layne Staley.

  • @docdrumz greedy bastard

  • I don't understand why people always get so riled up by lists in magazines about who is the best this or that. It's not the gospel, people-- it's either just some popularity contest in the form of a poll, or the opinion of a writer.

  • Okay I know that this guy is the #2 greatest guitarist according to rolling stone, but what exactly did he do to be influential enough to get on the list? His biography does not say. He had to be a pioneer or innovator of something.

  • @Rosieisapunk1200 That same list had David Gilmour listed as #82, so I wouldn't put a whole lot of creedence into that list. That being said, Duane's one of my top 5 favorite guitarists, and I put him up there as far as skill with guys like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. He had such a great, great feel for the blues, and brought that style to a portion of the country that didn't know about it, mainly Georgia and the south east US. Anyways, he played purely from the heart, and that means something.

  • @Rosieisapunk1200

Listen to Fillmore East, the original 2 disc set. That's what made me a believer 30 years ago.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rosieisapunk1200 Maybe because he was the best slide guitarrist ever. Ask the magazine, not us.

  • @Rosieisapunk1200 Listen to Mountain Jam or In Memory of Elizabeth Reed if that's not enough.

  • @Rosieisapunk1200 watch?v=P8oZAeL084Q

  • @Rosieisapunk1200 The greatest slide player of all time. take time and just listen his guitar just comes to life it becomes him in my personal opinion he is number 1.

  • Beauty and perfection. Mr. Duane Allman knocks me out each and every time I hear this, and that's fairly often. ; )

  • this is why I love music. thank you @iokata & duane

  • Wow! Just wow! Does me.

  • simply...incredible...nuf said

  • My ears just came

  • who could ever dislike this. someone that is deaf i suppose.

  • If that ain't blues, there is no blues,It reaches down to the depths of my soul,Dr Naismith invented basketball and obviously it not just a white game.If this is not proof blues can be played by all people

  • Fabulous talent.

  • Def, one of the greatest that ever played the guitar, period ......his slide work was light years ahead of everyone else s !

  • Being racist prevents one from being a true lover of music and mankind. Duane Allman's biggest musical influence was Miles Davis, in particular, Miles's "Kind of Blue" album. So I find this comment about Clapton being a racist, suspect at best.

  • "He had more soul than this earth could understand! Life here was far too short!"

    RDW

  • somzera hein

  • The hell is wrong with you people, am I the only hearing Duane Allman here?

The man already doesnt get the credit and recognition he deserves without people bringing up Hendrix or others, by the way I do think Hendrix is the greatest, but there are MANY others who are oh so amazing and if people could take their heads out their fuckin ass for a quick second they'd find these people

I promise I'd hit you all across the head with a Louisville if I ever came across you

    And how is Clapton racist?

  • @MusicalRelease - great idea about the louisville! bravo!!

  • The hell is goin on in here? Oooooh another millionth video that has unnecessary bitching in the comments.

  • Yes, I'm very much a woman. And thank you for being so polite. Believe me, I know what you're saying!! However, if you see that particular "handle" on anything, hit the Full Screen button immediately. As he does NOT deserve a platform. It's only human nature, if you see it, you'll be tempted to read it, and then, you'll get ANGRY!

How can you sit and obsorb, SHEER BRILLANCE, and fill your mind with hate simultaneously. Answer: You can't ! (It's the definition of psychosis)- Please take care

  • There is no reason to compare the brothers, Greg is great in his own right, and It was more than a treat to have heard Duane sing!

  • duane is a killer singer, but greggs blues voice is just so much more powerful

  • the best ever

  • Love the piano !

  • The vocals of Duane Allman have the same incredible soulfulness as does his absolutely amazing lead in this song!! Many have covered this old blues song, but this will always be considered the most tasteful this old man has ever heard!!! Have mercy! Can you feel the pain?!! Man, what an incredible interpretation!!! Thanks! RMcDinGa

  • @TheOutlawbluesman damn straight about the lead; takes my breath away ..

  • @TheOutlawbluesman You said it so well Bluesman!

Full of spine tingling soul, and done with such elegance ..A true masterpiece. This would be on my 'Desert Island List' if I had to chose just one or two songs.

  • hell id figure the comment section of this song would be about how awesome duane was and people posting covers and lessons so his music would live on not talkin about how clapton is a racist of white people cant play the blues

  • Comment removed

  • @bigcountrypicker Maybe you red the wrong comments? lol :-) thank God I read lots of great reactions of ppl that know how fantastic this is. Btw, ofcourse you are right to state it is silly to talk about clapton being a racist (did not know he was) and that white ppl can't play blues (I thought music had no particular colour but all colours of the rainbow). Luckily to most people music is an international language of love, understanding and shared emotions and most of us do understand that.

  • Amen @ximib12 - he communicated to our souls and also to the hair on the back of the neck.

  • god he has a sexy voice!

  • good music. real music. no more...

  • People who comment here shouldn't be watching this. Vids like these shouldn't have comments enabled.

  • @Solus77 why not?

  • @hammersaw100 wish he was still here so when this vid is over, we could listen, and watch newer stuff that he did not get to do for us

  • One of my favourite songs when I'm in a dark mood

  • For a while, I thought the Fillmore version of Stormy Monday was the saddest and most soulful blues song with Duane in it. I stand corrected.

  • @goatface1000

What got shoved up your butt? why are you so hung up on"Non Americans can't play the blues" the blues isn't about where you are from its about the feeling you have inside and honestly skin color/region shouldn't determine it! and you say clapton is a racist if he is such a big bad racist as you make him out to be then why the fuck is he playing the blues with black people ie buddy guy bb king etc etc maybe you are the one who is a raicst you armchair critic

  • @zepher1494 Clapton is a racist, he stood on stage and ranted about non white immigration into Britain and praised Enoch Powell a notorious racist politician. This is true. It is also true that 99.99% of great blues players are American it is an American art form

  • @goatface1000

Somebody with a little more effort than i feel like putting into this should rip you a new asshole. Feel fortunate I'm too tired, you ignorant child.

P.S- It's not an American art form. It's an African American art form, and even calling it that is stretching it.

  • @davefreak1 @davefreak1 A google search on Eric Clapton Enoch Powell will prove Clapton's racism. The fact that he likes blues does not alter that fact. Slave owners would enjoy listening to their slaves playing music, Most non American blues are simply pale imitations of the real thing. A man from the south of England singing that he is going to Chicago or that he is the Hoochie Coochie Man is to say the least incongrous. Why people venerate Clapton is a mystery to me. Cont.

  • @goatface1000 You do realize he was completely screwed out of his mind on drugs and alcohol when saying that. In an interview later in life he said it probably had something to do with the fact that a member of the Saudi Royal Family was 'leering' at patty and it pissed him off. We all say things we regret at one point in our lives. Doesn't make it right but your bs about white guys from england playing the blues being 'incongrous??'.. is a load of shit.

  • @watson123445566 He has often said he admired Enoch Powell a notably racist British politician, We say what we really think when we are out of our heads. If you read what I wrote it was that I think it is incongrous for English people to be singing about going to Lousiana to get their mojo fixed. I also think that Clapton has no swing to his playing and also he is a poor singer. He has made millions from sanitising black music and is a proven racist. Not really very nice.

  • @goatface1000 Do you have a F*****g clue what you're talking about? I suppose it was an accident that Rolling Stone rated Duane as number 2 best guitarist and EC as number 4. I also suppose all those black guys (and gals) in EC's touring band are tokens? You are nuts.

  • @0819Marlene Yes Ma'am. (I'm assuming you're a woman). It just irritates me no end when these jerks should be critiquing the performance and skills of the artist and instead go off on a tangent that doesn't have anything to do with music.

  • @ceslesnyder I apologize, sent you a response, but I didn't hit REPLY. Your generation is better on this "crazy box" then I will be, if I live as long as Methuselah!!!

  • @0819Marlene Not sure what you mean by "your generation". I'm a year older than Clapton and almost the exact same age as Jeff Beck. The '70's was and still is, MY time and music. Regards.

  • @ceslesnyder Was just about to shut the computer off when I saw our comment. What made me think you were younger, was because you called me Ma'am. Usually only hear that from a teenager.

Well than, I guess that means you're several years closer to Methuselah, than I am. - Good Night!!!

  • @ceslesnyder What does a Rolling Stone poll mean? Check it out Clapton is a racist. And Allman pissed all over him when they recorded together. Why is it that any criticism of RC produces such vitroil?

  • whatta soulful blues tune

  • @MrMousket Name me one non American blues musician who reaches the height of Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters?

  • @goatface1000 Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Charley Patton.

  • @ScorseseKubrick Skip James, Blind Boy Fuller, Tommy McClennan, Big Bill Broonzy, the list is endless I was just quoting a couple of examples.

  • @goatface1000 - Stevie Winwood for one!!!

  • @OlymPigs2010 Not convinced bit a talented guy

  • do not understand why hedrix and bbking is in top 10????????

  • @discouniverse You don't understand WHAT??? But what can I expect from someone proud to call themselves discoUniverse and expect them to even KNOW them blues when they're hearing it, or rank it! And as far as the others coming on pages like this to discuss racism and who is and who isn't YOU guys go away. What a shame & a waste...

  • We surely miss you when the Jonas Brothers are at the White House - how sad! It must really have annoyed McCartney to know theat Steve Ray, Duane, Dicky, Hendrix etc. all the ones that he would have liked = at least that's how I se it.

  • I'm at loss for words. Really outstanding!

  • O-O-OH! SKYDOG! Why did you have to get on that motorcycle that day????

Does that truckdriver have ANY idea what he did?? Sitti'n here listening and crying at the same time. You just go right through me!!!! Miss you, Duane Allman- SO MUCH

  • There are two kinds of sounds : an incredible succession of wrong notes, that have no sens together and supposed to prove the talent of the gitarist... and this :

an amazing thing called blues. The only kind of Music that relieve your soul so much that noone, even God himself, could ever catch it 'till the end of the song...

If you do like music a lot, make sure nobody forget what real music is !

  • @THXcooper Umm SRV ?? What about his soloing ?

  • Godlike

  • @DONDIVA1969 oh yea and three words Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • @DONDIVA1969 hates not cool bro

  • Skydog is singing this. A true Brother/Sister knows that, but let's just sit back and enjoy one of the greatest artists of all time, Duane Allman.

  • White guitarists treat the blues like its some kind of thesis. They dissect it, studied it and then regurgitated it with their spin on it. Black musicians like Hendrix lived it. Blues was part of their being, who they are. The only grey boy I am inclined to include in that domain is Duane Allman.

  • @DONDIVA1969 its people like you that try to create hatred between different cultures

  • @MartinPurvis I didn't see any hatred. It may be that he was a bit straightforward and plain, but it certainly seems true. Black people always had soul. And when I listen to SRV, it's like licks, style, technique, tone and playing overall is the most important thing. And that goes for any player. Not Duane. It's soul and passion. This is such a masterpiece of a song. I live the blues, and I can tell you - this is the song I would use to demonstrate what the blues is. The man was a genius. Peace!

  • @DONDIVA1969 Clapton?

  • @DONDIVA1969 I agree with you, actually. I'm 'white' btw. (this sounds a bit weird though) Duane Allman is the only one who lived the blues. This song is the blues. Only Duane and BB King from what I've seen, and Clapton on a few records. (Have You Ever Loved a Woman for example, studio version - because of what he felt at the time). SRV - no way. Great player though. Duane is the only one who lives the blues. He is the blues. And guitar is but a tool to him. Rest in peace master Duane! ;) Peace

  • @Solus77 Oh and Jimi of course. He also had strong feelings because of his mother and all. But he had a different, flamboyant style. In my humble opinion: 1. Jimi Hendrix/Duane Allman 2. BB King 3. Eric Clapton and then whoever. The rest are all mere 'players'. And that's the thing with all the lists, rankings and debates. These four (and certain others of course, but we're talking real guitarists here) were artists and geniuses first and foremost. It just so happens they were also guitarists.

  • @Solus77 that's pretty accurate to me. I like how you stress "artist" because that's what they were before. In terms of technic, many reach em and overcame then since, and i talk specificly about technic (wich according to me is nothing if you don't have the soul to use it) But Hendrix and other were artists, and that's why we shall remember them.

  • @jwul28 Exactly! And that's all there is to it. Peace brother!

  • @Solus77 What about Django, Robert Johnson? Buddy Guy, Clapton in my opinion is totally over-rated, Peter Green at his height had so much more feel. Also Johnny Winter is a really good blues player.

  • @goatface1000 he is not overrated.

  • @Solus77 Oh yes he is. He has no swing to his playing a good blues player swings. He also is a racist who had made millions out of playing black music

  • @goatface1000 he is not overrated. (I've had this discussion a million times and always provided plenty facts and strong arguments, and was backed by a whole lot of people who know what they're talking about; as opposed to the other party which always provided untenable claims that were based on their subjective opinion or grudge or trolling urge etc.)

  • @Solus77 Clapton was good in Cream and before that with John Mayall. When he played with Duane Allman he was blown away. In the final analysis this is of course only my opinion if his playing moves you then great, I have no personal grudge against him other than his racism hwever I do not enjoy his playing. He does not swing. FYI I have listened to blues since before the age 10 and have played guitar for 35 years.

  • @goatface1000 I'm sure you have heard Live @ Filmore east?

  • @drunk2471 No I don't like racists and I find it jarring to a man make millions ripping off black bluesmen when he is a proven racist so I don't really listen to him. Generally I think non Americans playing blues don't really cut it. Peter Green was a notable exception. I maintain that his playing does not swing.
