One of that greenpeace guys came to me when I was in Istanbul and told that they are against nuclear power and asked me for my support. I told him that nuclear power is cleaner then coil and natural gas power, and many others unless there is a meltdown(which can't happen with todays countermeasures and technology). He told me that it is a lie and I told him that he is a traitor to motherland because Turkey pays money to russia for natural gas every year but nuclear power will stop this thefth

Nuclear power plants are too complex and where humans are involved mistakes happen. The problem is the EXTREME damage an accident can cause. Even a probability of 0,01% a year is too high when over 400 power plants are running for decades.
the only meltdown I know was chernobyl, and it is because of their stupid tests on security systems. They pushed the reactor too hard and wanted to see if its emergency countermeasures worked, they did work but weren't enough. Today, noone will push reactors so hard and there are more than one emergency systems. If one does fail, other one starts working. Only thing to fear is a terrorist attack(or sabotage) to those plants. It can cause a big problem.

One big problem is that many nuclear power plants are in private hand (as in Germany) where profit is the highest value. Security system cost money so in capitalistic systems they tend to be neglected.

no they are not, CANDU nuclear stations for example, they have 5 different types of fail safe system working on different principles that can stop the reaction at anytime, even in the EXTREMELY unlikely event the systems fails simultaneously, the building is designed to contain the explosion. the structure that housed the reactor at Cherynobyl was poorly built while the wall of a modern day nuclear plant is one meter of reinforced concrete.
