  • On this date in 1981 {Jan. 24th} 'Best of Times' by Styx entered the Billboard's Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at No. 3 and spent a total of 19 weeks in the Top 100!!!

  • lol not a single dislike :)

  • it´s a jewel. thanks!!!

  • Dennis DeYoung is such a dynamic vocal & musical talent. STYX was never the same without Dennis DeYoung.

  • Saw Styx a few weeks ago,August 3rd,2011;,,,They still rock like hell even without Dennis, but this is one song his beautiful voice is absolutely necessary for and I wish all these rock bands would get their original members back together;...Van Halen,Styx, Guns n Roses, etc.

  • @54analsex realy are they still on the go didnt realy hear of them in england but my older cousin got me into these and rush got dennis deyoungs dessert moon album and tommy shawas was it young guns go for it havnt heard anything about them since

  • An underrated musical genius!!! Best of Times is one of the most romantic and heartfelt songs ever.

  • in the movie hall pass that dude masterbates to this song and gets caught lmao.

  • to people who hate styx should suck my dick and watch this vid or any other with styx!!!! THEY ROCK

  • I used to think this was Queen's song. Dennis DeYoung has a great voice.

  • one of my Favorite Classic..

  • such a beautiful voice something that in todays music no one has everyone nowadays lip sync

  • good lyrics, wonderful voice, excellent singer --GREAT SONG!

  • what a great time at A&M in those early years. Such fantastic talent and music. Thanks for posting.

  • DENNIS DE YOUNG'S VOICE IS SAME AS RUSSEL HITCHCOCK voice

  • DENNIS DE YOUNG'S VOICE IS SAME AS RUSSEL HITCHCOCK.....

  • I Love this song! This song fits whats going on today 2011. I hope we can help Japan. I feel so helpless

  • 3:42 have you ever noticed how may times Styx mentions boats? "Come sail away" "Boat on the river" ...This song :D

  • @taylorg9999 yes! even the word "paradise" they use it so many times

  • i want to download this album!! going to check out in downloadmusic .im

  • Yes, these were the best of times.

  • It just came to me..........after watching this clip I just realized something....Dennis Deyoung wanted to be a Barry Manalow type entertainer and JY and Shaw are more AC DC like. that being said I can't listen to the new line up. It sounds horrible. Styx of the 80's fantastic....Without Dennis on vocals it's not Styx....end of story.

  • @chopperdoctube That is EXACTLY what happened to Styx. Dennis is a romantic and loved to write in a ballad pop/rock style. JY and Shaw wanted to shake the stadium off it's foundation. They were oil and water in a way and frustrated, each holding the other back.

  • i've been kicked in the slats by jealous bandmates and, trust me, it's like a brother doing it.

  • Once and a while I mistake this song for the vocals of Queen.. but still a fantastic band Styx is.. Dust in the Wind...just kidding, thanks forn the post..lol

  • Great talent, to bad He is know to be a dick head.

  • Wow, all the memories come rushing back! I was 16 when this came out.

    LOVE IT!

  • this is just one of those songs that never becomes dated. Love it just as much now as I did when it first came out. :)

  • This is before Dennis started wearing that awful chiapet on his head!! Still love the music!

  • you know for all the bitchin tommy and Jy did with some of his songs, it's funny you NEVER hear them bitch about all the money those songs made them......LOL

  • Love Styx forever!!! They should be named on of the best groups (our the best group) of all times!!

  • Still sing along to this song...thanks for the post !!! Brings me back 20 plus years...

  • Dennis Deyoung is a virtouso pianist

  • My HS grad year.( edison socal) great memories but really I'm enjoying life more now than I ever have. The teen years are overrated, live now and live hard

  • best performance in 80,s

  • I think this was on Paradise Theater, and was a single in '81.

  • pure genious

  • If I remember correctly this was the last song chosen for the Paradise Theatre album, they almost left it off....can you imagine that album w/o this cut on it??

  • Its on PARADISE THEATER 1980 ALBUM Track 5.

Bought this album as MC, bought this 3 Years ago as CD...

This song is in the matter of "AD 1928" (Track 1) and "AD 1958" (Track 10)

    -I´m from Germany , english isn´t perfect-

  • @SteGross S'ok about your English...it's better than many, supposed "english speakers" here on Youtube. No typo's no grammar errors here.

  • Starting with "State Street Sadie" (Track 11), then Track 5 "Best of times"

  • @badrogue66 I got that DVD for xmas. hah

  • Wow....brings back memories of a younger time.

  • Im 47 now, Grey hair comes suddently!!!

Love his voice. Hate to miss him on last year on "Night of the proms" in Germany

  • Im 49 going on 50 in january 2010 & i have blended silver in my hair if that really matters LOL

  • Wife and Daughter -no Daughers voice said- "colour them".

My wife love this now. Not lovin the haircut?

  • TYVM 4 the email comment, SteGross.

  • @kri2c man,whatcha wanna do that 4? I'm 50, dont dye, and bangin underaged chicks, oh yeah!lmao!

  • @miltonwrenn You're a freak if you have sex with underage girls, jerk. Sicko, no girl likes you. I don't. @fpinon5150 He IS NOT a dickhead. He's like my daddy, I love Dennis. I wish I could meet him!! I love him!

  • did that guy ever have dark hair, hahaha, but he's definitely a genius who never got nearly enough credit. in my opinion, he beats the stones or the beatles any day.

  • Tommy Shaw gave him the gray hairs LOL

  • @insanepoet93 fuck yeah!

  • "Where everything's all right..." Great voice.

  • I agree with Matey3! Today's fads aren't like what I grew up with! And, I loved STYX! To me as a teen they were about the greatest group ever. I had every album they ever put out from Crystal ball to The Paradise Album

  • Reply;

If people knew who is behind pushing rap, crack, gangs, crimes and other stupidities such as tattooing, putting nuts and bolts in your bodies and other crappy fads and fashions like showing off your dirty underwear, etc, which makes a normal person Sick then they would not allow it let alone follow it like blind bats.

But I am not gonna get into it here, ppl want to enjoy Real music (and not that 2 bit piece of crap which is usually made with only 2 notes)

    Watch STYX Grand Illusion song!

  • Dude musical tastes are subjective and as 37 year old I like many new songs of today.

  • Thank you very much for posting and sharing this video.

    Takes me wayyy back...

De Young makes great music and is an intelligent guy, I like him.

I saw rest of his band (Tommy and them) Openning for Rush once in Dallas.

but the business side of music which has always been controlled by a bunch of maniacs threw ppl off the course of rock and roll and led them into this rap crap & soI lost touch with real music for a long time.

It is a breath of fresh air to rediscover indeed,

    Thanks!

  • Hip-Hop was never bad nor early Gangsta Rap. I credit the Chronic album and Doggystyle making rap more... commercialized? When those came out they and Dangerous Minds soundtrack were being watched the same amount as Animaniacs by young teenagers and kids in elementary school.

  • honey you and i ...

  • Dood! Epiphany: If they can do musicals like Mama Mia, they could *totally* do an even cooler Styx-themed movie based on this tour and concert. Can you imagine? That'd be like the friggin' Citizen Kane of Broadway musicals. Haha!

  • Kilroy Was Here and Paradise Theater WERE albums with a plot already!

  • Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime. We'll take the best forget the rest....SHS '82 Bellevue, WA.

  • Just like Danny said in this concert, dreams do come true, as now I'm a 50- year- old man

  • Great memories of my friends from High school.

    Thank you

    The best Of times

  • Love him or hate him he single handedly charted Styx

which they couldn't do b4 him..

  • I couldnt agree with you more. Styx without Dennis, is like a sundae with no Ice cream.. it just isn't right.. :)

  • Some would argue that his flavor was ultimately responsible for the demise of that successful line up.

  • @tjfreak AYE MEN!

  • @tjfreak Oh yes!!!!! I saw him last night!!!! Finally for the first time in many years....I finally was able to go back to that place that started 20+ years ago for me... The last time I saw, heard, felt Styx live was the Paradise Theatre tour. The best of times...came back last night! At the grove "Dennis De Young....Better, stronger than ever!

  • The definitive live version of this song. Great memories.

  • There is NO ONE I would pay to see today. What the hell happened to music???

  • Our Memories of Yesterday will Last a Lifetime.....Salem Nh 1984 St. Joe's

  • well said!!!!! Such a beautiful song Peace

  • It seems that Mr Roboto was kind of the beginning of the end for Styx to me. The music was never as good as the 70's heydays. This is nice to see Dennis DeYoung singing. Replacing him is like replacing Steve Perry in Journey with someone else-it isn't the same.....

  • I was at this concert when the show passed through the Midwest. DDY vocal are tied forever to the band as Tommy's and JY guitars are. We can never have that again because John not here anymore. It's sad what time fame and pressure can do to people who made such magical music. Just remember we have the memories to Rock our Paradise so we can live in that Grand Illusion for as long as we want.

  • At the least, Tommy Shaw is still a great vocalist. His work on Cyclorama, in my opinion, was quite good.

  • They're both great, but Tommy is an altogether nicer guy. With his joining, Styx really became a super group.

  • hermosa cancion y hermosa voz

  • great

  • the girl at 1:40 can really fell the song...as did I..great!!!

  • Masterpiece. This song belongs to my youth.

The guitar solo is so simple and amazing...

  • Sadly, these were not the best of times for Styx... :-(

  • Thank you for posting this song this is my favorite song by styx! Dennis has such a great voice to, amazing band! cant beat the classics

  • I've always love Styx(Dennis deYoung)eversince when I was sooo young I guess when I was 5 or 6yrs old...

  • I agree with you BubbaGanoush2.

  • love the intro! memories....cheers, jimi

  • Thanks for putting this out there. I agree with the comments below about Styx and Journey. Just isn't the same without the leads.

  • Love the Styx..

  • love the STYX!!!THE BEST!!!

  • John,Tommy,Chuck,Dennis,James....that WAS STYX...I saw them 3 times in concert and was never disappointed....sounded like I was listening to the album. No Dennis... NO STYX

  • SO TRUE

  • Whatever dude, the music transcends any one person and JY and Tommy fill in on the singing MORE than awesomely. Gowan is incredible and the band still kicks ass because the music and songs are bigger than even the ego of Dennis DeYoung. I just saw them 2 days ago in Calgary and they fucking ROCKED!!!!!

  • No matter what version of the band people may like,Its the music that is timeless..Lets just enjoy what ever version of Styx we fancy..:)

  • James "J.Y." Young -- Vocals, guitar, keyboards

Tommy Shaw -- Vocals, guitar, mandolin, talkbox

    Todd Sucherman -- Drums, percussion

Lawrence Gowan -- Vocals, keyboards, guitar

Ricky Phillips -- Bass guitar, vocals

Chuck Panozzo -- Bass guitar, bass pedals (guest musician)

  • I agree gym dude. It's happened with so many of my favorite bands. Everyone wants to go in a different direction. I just sigh and appreciate the music they created in the years past.

  • I think it is such a shame that the members of Styx and Dennis can't get things worked out! Styx without Dennis is almost as bad as Journey without Steve Perry, CCR without John Fogerty, Queen without Freddy Mercury, Van Halen without David Lee Roth, and INXS without Michael Hutchence. Anyone agree with me on this?

  • I totally agree with you.

  • I completely disagree because Tommy Shaw wrote a bunch of their great songs and sang on them, too. Blue Collar Man (Long Nights), Renegade, Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man), Boat On The River, Crystal Ball, Too Much Time On My Hands. It's more like Waters out of Floyd. The creative energy is changed, but performing they don't miss a beat.

  • That is true! So, what I now say is, Styx isn't the same if Dennis and/or Tommy is missing.

  • Awesome classic Styx. No one is better than DeYoung. I saw this tour at the LA forum and I don't care what they said about it on Behind The Music, the crowd was loving it and they sold out multiple nights there. It was an amazing show. The whole band looked like they were all having a good time that night.

  • Dennis DeYoung even said the band made money on the Kilroy tour much to what Behind the Music said. Also they weren't booed in Texas. In fact, Styx were to do a regular show but the guys in the band wanted to try Kilroy in front of a stadium crowd which was a brave thing to do. The rowdy crowd were just tired and went home but no one booed. The BTM piped in boos from the Caught In The Act film. The CITA album is one of my Top 5 live albums of all time. This performance is a reason why.

  • If they performed Kilroy in front of Rocklahoma, I'm sure it'd be thought of as the second coming of Will Rogers and applauded on par with Heavy Metal: The Movie (1981.)
