Ancient Macedonian names are not only Greek, they are very often uniquely and proudly indigenous Macedonian variants of Greek names betraying yet again the essentially Northwest Greek character of ancient Macedonian with remnant Aeolic features. For your info, according to Ottoman statistics of 1914, there were barely 12,000 Greeks in the Konya district (from where the Karamanlides came) with another 13,000 in the surrounding areas = 25,000. There were barely 900,000 Greek refugees from the whole of Anatolia in 1923 with another 300,000 from Thrace and Bulgaria. Less than half made it to Macedonia.

Hold on, I'm all the way in America and interested in this little debate, but I haven't gathered too much information yet. Isn't modern Macedon mostly inhabited by Slavs from farther north and simply got its name because it was once part of the ancient Macedonian nation? If this is true, then I would see why Greeks don't consider you Greek. After all, Gruevski sounds like a Slavic name to me, not Hellenic.

Is it a mistake? It's your personal opinion anyway. The Turks changed the names of the Greeks in Asia Minor but they didn't changed the names of the Greeks in Europe. Strange. They didn't changed the names to anybody. Unlike your country. It changed the names of the places and the names of the people (names and surnames...everything).
When the prosfiges came they had to learn Greek. During '20 in Macedonia one could listen mostly Macedonian and Turkish.

I know that you learn that Byzantium was Greek empire. How else you would connect Ancient Hellas with Modern Greece.
Check the sources. Romaika, Romaioi, Βασιλεία Ῥωμαίων, Romania... not Ellines, or Hellenes. The only common thing is the language. The Latin was later changed with Greek, after the Roman empire was split. But it continued under the name... ROME, Romania. And the empire was multi ethnic not Greek.
