I`ve had this PC for 3 years , the CD-ROM died last year , got a Memorex replacement for $25 , running great since , a few months ago I decided to upgrade it with an Athlon 64 x2 5000+ ( Ebay $ 25 ) , 4 gb 5400 800 mhz memory ( Ebay $40 ) , Nvidia 9500gt card ( Ebay $50 ) and windows 7 ( Ebay $60 ) spent $ 175 and now it will stay with us a lot longer , quite an improvement over stock .

I'm stuck with this desktop now. A few years ago, I played Hot Wheels Stunt Track Challenge on this computer and this computer ate my CD. It broke it into little itty-bitty pieces. Now my CD-ROM can't read any other disc. I have no idea of what the actual problem is with the Drive. Can somebody help me figure out what's wrong with it? For one, I opened the DVD Drive and turned it on with a CD in it and it didn't rotate. The red light comes on for one second then again, then it stops. Help me!

I am using this at the moment. Please don't buy this computer. That's a lie , I only have 140 gb of HDD space. It's a 1 core system , so it's really slow and it doesn't multitask that well. When my mom bought it for me , we get the computer , keyboard , mouse , an 18.5" screen and a free 100 dollar printer. All that for 400 dollars. That proves how bad it is. Don't expect to play any games with this computer because you will lag like a mofo.

@minhtung91 I added a Diablotek DA series400 - 400w PSU. ($20) One inside was 250 Max. Then I dropped a SPARKLE SX84GS512D2LDPP GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card. ($29.99 ) No problems so far. (I got this machine from Tiger Direct 178.00 Refurbished)

@minhtung91 No problem you can drop a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5800+ Processor ADA5800IAA5DO - 3.0GHz, 2 x 512KB Cache, 1000MHz (2000 MT/s) FSB, Brisbane, Dual-Core, OEM, Socket AM2, Processor on that MotherBoard also. 50 bucks tiger Direct. This is why I bought this PC it was expandable.

It's a real piece of shit trust me, the mobo and CPU will start to fail after about a year, you'll think you're full of viruses and buy all kinds of shitty software - it's not the problem, eMachine uses the cheapest hardware they can get their hands on. Not to mention the "Advanced" GeForce 6150se nForce integrated graphics card - literally the worst one still put into computers. At the original retail price of $350 you could build a much better PC, for just a little more time.

Yes, but you need to add a video card to the machine, the PSU is 250, but you can add a 4670 and you will be just fine and should be able to play fallout 3 or oblivion at high settings at 1280x1024 or more with decent performance.

a psu is your power supply.

all the hardware inside the machine needs an certain amount of power to run.

an harddrive is your storage device wich dertiminates how much stuff you can have on the pc.

an CPU is like a big calculator wich calculate everything you do.

a motherboard is where everything is placed on. a video card is what you use for gaming, if you dont game you dont need one.

usb ports is where you connect all your mouse keyboard and stuff.

i'm running an Emachines similar to this. With a 9600 GT and 3 GB of RAM with a 450 watt PSU and an intel celeron and let me tell you it LAggs like HELL. I can't even play online :(

I had a intel celeron d at 3.6ghz and i ran both my 8400gs and 2400hd with it, and it played games pretty good, but you said similar to this, so keep in mind the " Athlon 64bit processor 2.4ghz " is way way faster then a Celeron D, believe me.

Also if you are running VIsta, i would use XP on that celeron.
