One of my very favorite songs Barbra recorded, but it is always hard to say there are so many. she is an american treasure, for sure, known worldwide as one of the best singers in the world!

This is one of the most beautiful love songs ever. Always been a favorite of mine. I was playing this song one day, and a young, twenty-something, friend of mine, who had come over and heard it, commented "Wow, what a great new song!" I just laughed out loud. He had no idea that this song was not new, but written back in the 1940s. Long before he was even born!

It is clear you don't live in Malibu, Santa Monica or even Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley where a lot of tradesmen and domestics live. The guys who sweep the swimming pool must at all times keep their eyes averted (on pain of dismissal)when the great Streisand is resting on her lounge in the sun...no doubt while reading the works of Thomas Jefferson or the Federalist Papers. I love this song because it brings sad memories about my unforgettable love affair with a St/ Paul nun from Pinas who turn around and become a butterfly lover when she turn unfaithful to me when she meet a lover priest who played piano with her in the church choir in Ermita Church. This was our love theme song. We were both in love in our first two years of secret hidden love affair. I am still in love with her and I was really broken hearted.

Shirley Jones sets a very high bar with her perfectly done rendition, and even though I disapprove of Barbra "riding" a few notes, her fantastic voice comes through once again here. My gosh, to think that all the rock and rollers don't understand or can't appreciate beauty like this!

The definitive rendition is Shirley Jones as truly a 19 year old singing this immortal song in the 1956 film version of Carousel. "Babs" sings this in a concert style and is not believable as a teenager in love...you really have to look at other interpretations.

@jeffbazell1 I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. The last European tour (just 7 shows in 2006) wore her out. Also, her voice didn't hold up. I'm afraid ol' Babs missed the boat on the serious touring thing; a shame she didn't (tour) in her prime.

@romanticspirit Do you know that the original couple for her version of "Star is Born" was Streisand and Elvis....he apparently backed out because he wanted top billing.

I actually prefer her alternate take of this, which is shown in the video "The Making of the Broadway Album." It's more emotional. Visually, Streisand indicates the take is too slow (to the musicians) and to speed it up somewhat, but, ironically, it's that take that I find more moving.
