Throughout history the REs have been fundamental in the evolution of the Army. The RAF, the ARMD Corps, the Artillery, the Signals, the Submarine, torpedoes etc have all been invented, doscovered , founded by the REs. The PARAS were fomed from the REs. On June 22nd 1940, 5,000 soldiers were formed from 1st and 6th airborne divisions, Royal Engineers.

Since when have 9 para done any fighting? Ask all the blokes who were on Herrick 4, and literally just got back off Herrick 8.. so badger0987, you obviously dont know what you are on about. One of the founding members of the British Airborne forces was Royal Engineer,Major John Rock RE.
I have taken the following off a PARA REG web site to educate you on your lack of Airbornce forces history.
" His assistant, who arrived at Ringway on the 24th June, was Major John Rock of the Royal Engineers, whose orders were to achieve nothing less than the organisation of the entire British Airborne movement."

Where do you think the RAF came from? The RFC, from the Royal Engineers. The Royal Engineers are the original Airborne Forces. Of course, if you'd prefer to get your rant off your chest to someone from 591, I could arrange that. He didn't do P-Coy, he did Normandy.

Since when have 9 para done any fighting? Ask all the blokes who were on Herrick 4, and literally just got back off Herrick 8.. so badger0987, you obviously dont know what you are on about. The sqn have been providing close support on every patrol, doing explosive entry etc and fighting alongside the reg, aswell as doing construction tasks.

Anyway sunshine, Respect from one old sapper to a younger one. My eldest boy is in 33 Armd Engr Sqn in Afghan at the moment. Youngest boy joining the Medical Corps in May 09. It doesnt matter what job you do in the Army. The fact that you are in British Army says it all. Everyone is an expert in whatever they do. Everyone relies on each other.
