I had two Stihl trimmers, one a brushcutter. They both failed within a year. I went to Shindaiwa for trimmers and brushcutters, and Echo for chainsaws. Both brands have operated faultlessly. It seems, now, Echo has purchased Shindaiwa.
@dukeheat I work for an arborist and loging company and we have a full line of stihl chainsaws we have used for about 6 years. about 2 years ago we got a husky and 3 echo's All are better than the stihls. Stihl get its air from near the fuel tank and sproket cover which is where the saw dust is. Huskys and every other saw brand gets its air from the flywheel which is clean and away from the dust. I only use stihl, echo and husky but I'm a small engine mechanic andhave used all brands in tests.
Why do these responses always seem to become a "my saw is better than your saw" type of posts. I have two Echo products and love em. I worked with Stihl chainsaws and brush saws several years ago and they worked great. I looked to buy a Stihl chainsaw but was priced out of buying one. The line trimmers were priced the same but Echo had a five year warranty apposed to Stihl's two so Echo it was and have not regretted it.
@Lampadamervelha Echo saws r ment pro arborist mostly which is y they r so light. Stihls r only pro because the company calls it that. If it wer pro theyd have to get the air from the flyweel to b cleaner air and more robust. Instead they havent fixed it and is y stihl chainsaws bog easily if u feed them to fast. That is wat seperates stihl from pro chainsaws.
@Lampadamervelha The stihl company claims that stihl is pro. Poulan also claims the same thing. Echos r very pro saws. Mostly used by arborist because of the light materials used for the body. Also the engine life. They come with a 5 year waranty. The only better warranty is the hitachi warranty with a 7 year. I like husqvarnas the most but echo's have the strongest piston and cylinders.
@zuuluu1 Echo certainly builds some great equipment and their saws do use a great air filter design. I just wish they would start using a carb. that could handle ethonal fuel. I like Husqvarna the best. We service/repair and run Echo, Stihl and Husqvarna saws, trimmers and blowers.
I'm a Husqvarna Dealer in IN and get twice the Stihl's in for repairs than Husky and Echo combined. Throw one Stihl piece of equipment away a week because it needs a new carb that is more than the equipment is worth.
My Dad has an Echo CS 500 VL, he bought used about 30 years ago, still uses it a lot and has never checked the points. I would say he has cut more than 200 cords of wood with it, maybe 400 cord. I can say similar about my 510 EVL I bought used 17 years ago. Dad also has a Stihl, and it runs very similar to the Echo, but is only about 10 years old. I can't believe how little trouble we've had with the Echo's over the years.
Your opinion differs from the majority of others, cause Echo consistency has gotten better reviews than Husqvarna. Or is Husqvarna a piece of junk cause it's sold at Lowe's, and Stihl not much ahead of Husqvarna as you say?
So wind, passing vehicles, and other pieces of equipment won't stir up any dust to get into the engine? And saw dust was used in gear boxes, rear-ends, and manual transmissions. Saw dust in an engine will clog an oil pump screen and oil ports which would make a knock worse. But it will pack in between worn gears to dampen noise.
Just because YOU never seen one doesn't mean it's junk. I've used Stihl, Echo, and Red Max over the years, and Echo is by far my favorite. When you compare size for size, the Echos are lighter, better balanced, and much easier to service and clean than any other saw as demonstrated in the video. If you go and buy a CS8000, I'll guarantee you'll be giving up your MS660's. And Echo doesn't lower their quality on their smaller entry level equipment, they'll all take hours of use.
put in them. but that is all easily fixable. just take a decient plug that has the top of it actually connected and put it on. i am a mechanic in morgan city louisiana and i do sell echo equipment, but just because i sell them i don't believe they are the best thing in the world. but they are very good pieces of equipment and comparing them to still is close to comparing them to the exact same saw. they are both almost the exact same saw just with different names on them.
that's not techically true. echo and stihl are practically in the same league. i have used echo, stihl, husqvarna, poulan, and any other chain saw you could possibly buy in south louisiana. and the truth about it is that echo and stihl and both great pieces of equipment. the only reason people think that stihl is better is because they are more well known. but they have their faults just like every other piece of equipment. the one thing i hate when i see a stihl tho is the cheap spark plug they
All ECHO chain saw engines are certified to 300hrs in EPA engine durability testing. This is the highest rating available. ECHO chain saws also come with a 5 year consumer warranty.
This air filter simply demonstrates the difference in air filtration quality on comparable models.

all it takes is about 15 mins and maybe 10 dollars to make that stihl have the same idea of a filter. but nice design cant rip on ya for that.

No white handle. No pro saw. Stihl's pro saws are always white handled. Orange handle is homeowner use. ECHO is good for the money however.

now another thing i would like to state about stihl is that a stihl chain saw has more torque but overall they are almost the same dude.
