  • my favorite part: 4:28 - 4:40

  • yay violas! :D

  • Excellent.

  • I love it!! I love the St. Petersburg String Quartet recording personally! Boris kicks the viola parts ass!

  • playing this in school. and it is so. emotional. and beautiful. and ahhhh. wow. every chord...lovely. perfect.

  • gosh, all of u, why are u listening to this if u just want to talk about whether or not Smaetana was gay????????

  • who cares if he's gay. i'm gay but idc if he is. great piece. viola shines.

  • That first chord always gets me. :)

  • @jeffersontool you must not be using the correct technique then.

  • Simple and amazing at the same time.

  • I wish I could play like that lol... I love the Violists' articulation though

  • this piece is great theres not maney pieces with viola solo wich makes this peice special

  • one of the best quartets of all time.

  • great viola solo!!!

  • poor you, you wont be able to listen to this masterpiece :(

  • just prodijious!!!

  • I love how half of the coments on this video are arguments about the gay community. besides that the viola is incredibly strong in this piece. What a superb performance

  • Wow! That viola in the beginning starts the piece off amazingly! Wonderful!

  • Go join a gay/anti-gay chatroom...... You just about ruined my experience listening to one of my favorite chamber music pieces. You truly should feel ashamed of yourselves!

  • original---and yet........ Psycho-spiritual-social-cultural-package-of-protoplasms would come up with better.

  • @fdmianhansen I totally agree with you... I just don't know what kind of 'sofisticated people' come here to talk about the private life of the others, disregarding this wonderful artistic and human experience. Great, emotional piece!

  • Gays love to claim everyone it's ridiculous. They just need to do research.

  • The viola in the beginning is magnificent.

  • amazing. thoroughly amazing

  • Thank you for posting this. The second subject of this movement goes straight to the heart. All the sadder for being in the major, I feel, like a Schubert theme.

  • In fact, this quartet was composed in E-minor beacuse of his tinnitus that was buzzing in an E.

  • I just got back from a concert where this movement was performed. It's incredible how much emotion is packed into it - such a powerful and stirring piece.

  • people, he was not a gay , i lived in Czech Republic for 7 years, in the capital,Prague, studied in the Prague's conservatory, and i know hes not gay. and even more - in the score of this quartet it says : The third movimient - largo sustenuto is dedicated to his idyllic love - a young lady, which later became his spouse.

  • How does you living in Prague make it impossible that Smetana was gay?

  • Smetana wasnt Gay you idiot! Not only he had womens... And according to this fact he wass blamed to have gonorrhoea from prostitutes, on which he died latter on... IDIOT!

  • I'm not arguing either side. I'm making the point that just because someone lived in Prague doesn't give them more authority over the rest of us.

  • smetana means sour cream in russian

  • and in Polish.

  • ok, it's time for Madonna to listen to such music, ok?!

  • This os such a beautiful song. Its so imtense and passoniate. I looked up at Smetana was gay.

  • Tchaikovsky was homosexual too...makes me love him ten times more XD

But all that aside, I have never heard of this composer...and I really like this quartet.

  • how can you not have heard of Smetana?

  • me too

  • Was he? Don't you say! I am Czech (and lesbian:) myself, but I've never heard that Smetana was gay, quite on the contrary. I mean, he was married and known to have mistress as well.

  • Now now, don't let the facts get in the way.

  • This os such a beautiful song. Its so imtense and passoniate. I looked up at Smetana was gay.

  • This quartet sounds amazing!!!!

  • who is the group playing in here?

  • Moyzes Quartet is playing here; I'll add that to the "about" section.

  • nice post thanks

  • i didn't particularly like their phrasing. better than ours though.
