  • Great Video Thanks !

  • I think this video has jogged my memory when it comes to cycling my new tank. :)

I did this about 4years ago with my 4ft long 29 gallon, and now i want to set up my 60 litre tank, to move my goldfish in to it.

To kick start the small tank, i have taken gravel and 30% water from big tank & added more dechlorinated water to fill up tank. Brand new filter is in place, and added some Cycle for the first three days. Tested water. Ammonia=0.50ppm,Nitrate=5.0ppm,Nitrite=0ppm :-) What else should i do?

  • ok, so i have had tanks for about 10+ yrs. i currently have 3 running with different fish, a hospital tank and i just got a 55 to move some of my cichlids in bc my big boy is attacking everyone.. i always thought it was the water that carried the bacteria for the fish to thrive in? so if u say it its all in the filter how is that when u change like a cartridge?

  • hey my girlfriend wants to get a fish tank and i told her that she just needed to add some of the gravel from my tank that i have i already cycled is that right or was it wrong what i told her

  • @g230258 It was right. The gravel contains large amounts of bacteria, and will speed the process up a lot!

  • @xxXFireworkMannXxx what about if i throw one moss ball in my 10 gallon tank from my betta's tank

  • @jessica56786789 That will add some bacteria too. It just won't add as much, but will also help reduce the nitrates = less frequent water changes. The best and fastest way is to add your filter cartridge/media to her filter. This is the fastest way, and if they don't fit, just put some of the visible things or "seed" the new filter.

  • Does it work with undergravel filters too or would the bacteria be on the gravel then?

  • good video really helpful thanks

  • Where does the bacteria come from in the first place. I always wondered that

  • @macktysontv Without bringing it from another tank, the air.

  • @ben191209 GOT YA

  • You said nitrite is okay in your tank which it isnt. Nitrite is almost as deadly as ammonia. Nitrate is the one that is okay as long as it is less than 20.

  • hey, my firend is selling me her old tank (which is alot bigger then my tank at the moment) as she has been useing her filter with that tank will it be ok to put my fish straight into the new tank,

  • @tiffanyrobertson1 most likely it would be fine. As long as the fish/tank was healthy before and you dont keep the filter out of the water (or wash it with water with chlorine in it) you should be fine

  • cool tanks, look's like my 75 gallon fish tank

  • finally someone who knows what they are talking about!!!

  • Usually cycle tanks with other media, but just done first ammonia cycle, different i must say :)

  • @jaycymru Cool man, hope everything went alright for you. Cycling can be a bit of a headache sometimes. Especially when you are stocking the tank fairly heavy.
