  • Great Band!!

  • bass solo was sick

  • Damn, Dave is an amazing bass player!

  • true musicians

  • How freakin' awseome are these guys!?

  • Heavy John Mc Laughlin influence.......

  • My drummer just turned me on to these guys. Like a blend of little feat steely dan n weather report. Superb

  • What a kick-balls band the Dregs are!!! It's too bad the Lord took T. Lavitz from us so soon. :(...

  • 1:47

  • That's a real band, the rest are just wannabes!

  • Exclusive music

  • When they got quiet and started the keyboard solo, it reminded me of Hocus Pocus.

  • How could you dislike this? That makes no sense to me. This IS musicianship on the highest scale.

  • How could you dislike this?

  • und ur schirch

  • buuuuuuuuu linkin park is muuuuuuuuuch better

  • @xxxLinkinPark1998xxx why the hell do you even bother watching a dixie dregs video. come on. wake up!!

  • @xxxLinkinPark1998xxx

go back to bed son, then in the morning you can play at linkin park and let us grown ups work.

  • The keyboard man was the only (weak) link in this performance,(and he was good).

  • "...and this concert is sponsored by Musicman", LOL....great musicians, love the 70´s DDregs better, but this is awesome. Jerry Goodman = untouchable.

  • rod morgenstein....

    you drummerfucker....

  • Steve Morse and the Dixie Dreggs still bring the goods. I love Steve Morse in the Dreggs and his Deep Purple stuff too. I hope he keeps doing both.

  • Dat's da shit right there!

  • 2:33 Awesome violin solo. In fact, that's the coolest one I've ever heard. The guy in Gamelon was awesome too, but I've got to say the solo in this tune takes the cake. So cool!

  • @fiveinslide6

Wow, first time I've heard someone mention Gamelon since the late 80's. They had the goods.

  • @randallcaster The late 80s would be the last I heard Gamelon play live--at SUNY Buffalo. I'll never forget it. Very memorable. Ain't music fun?

  • I had seen Steve with Deep Purple twice but never have a chance to see him with the Dregs!

  • Would it not be the coolest to hang with these guys as they are writing/workin' out a song!? I mean where do they get their inspiration? Amazing stuff and on St. Paddy's Day I always listen to Leprechaun Prominade... Welcome to my tradition ; )

  • ... overall, very good. It's a shame about the guitar tone on the violin...

  • Mark O' Connor stated his case pretty well also. One of the best musicians on the face of the earth.

  • Hell yea! love jimmy herring and hes always talking about steve morse, just recently found out he was in Deep Purple. Had no clue it was the same person that played in dregs

  • Ok, no big deal.

  • Goodman was with The Dregs before he was with Mahavishnu.

  • @tsj22001 No he wasn't.

  • @tsj22001 LMAO @ THE COMMENT @ts22001 said....you buttwipe get your music straight

  • @tsj22001 You sure about that? Andy Sloan was Dreggs violinist in 1978... And if my old man memory serves me: Bruce, West and Lang were with Mahavishnu before the Dreggs was a band... But I ain't getting up to check the dates on my CD's or researchin' the net for it...

  • Andy West is hiding in there....Wish he did a solo as well...

  • Is that the Ball Family Reserve?

  • @VenousPlatypus No, that's the Steve Morse model, serial number 1.

  • @MarshallLesPaul Dave La'Rue's smartass.

  • @VenousPlatypus Smartass?? How do you figure? You asked a question, you didn't specify who you were talking about, I assumed you meant Steve, so I answered your question without any attitude.

  • I remember seeing them do this one live before it even had a title. Steve used to double that short keyboard riff (0:43 & 0:51) on guitar in the live shows when he was younger! :)

  • Is this Chicago House of Blues?

  • T was so out there during his solo; check Steve checking in to make sure T didn't further lose him ;) RIP T!

  • RIP T, you were an inspiration to me, you and Steve, and Andy/Allan/mark/ etc... I'll be seeing you soon.! I'm assuming arthritis is gone, but German dark beer ; tell me they have Beck's.or Paulie girl there.

  • 1:46 SLAPPA DA BASS

  • Rip T Lavitz...

  • Jerry Goodman on violin - YES! Dave LaRue smokin' that bass...good stuff!

  • rip T. You were right up there with Mays and the rest.

  • slapin da bass man!!

  • AWWWWWWWWWWWWWESOME <3

  • finely tuned machine. not for the weak-minded

  • Totally Awesome, thank you for sharing.

  • @MrMegaFredzeppelin

    Rock/Jazz Fusion at it's best.

  • Now I know why I laugh hysterically at shows like American Idol, America's Got Talent, etc.....No one in their right mind can take any of them seriously when discussing "talent" the single most overused word in the english language. This is the true definition of "talent"

  • @bigtimmy1100 yeah i totally agree but perhaps the only word overused more to describe alot of the so-called "artists" of today is "genuis" of which very few come close to approaching or even having any talent

  • @jpkayfabe83 and @bigtimmy1100 Abso-fragging-lutely, buddy!!! There needs to be more adjectives, because the superlatives doled out for the wannabes and posers on TV are nauseating.

  • @bigtimmy1100 Abso-fragging-lutely, buddy!!! There needs to be more adjectives, because the superlatives doled out for the wannabes and posers on TV are nauseating.

  • That violin sounds like a guitar... Why two instruments doing exactly the same?

  • Hell fucking yeah!!!!!!

  • Man I love stuff like this!!!!!!!!

  • Has to be Poindexter.

  • Where's was this made? It looks professional. From a TV broadcast?!? It sounds GREAT!!

  • Whew....thanks,i needed that.

  • Holy shit I thought that was Morse crankin it it was the damn violin! I've never heard jamin on a violin like that in my life, this shit is super clean!

  • This is definitely Jerry Goodman playing violin here. What an amazing player!

  • I had the incredible pleasure of seeing the Dregs live with this lineup. Every one of these guys is top notch. It doesn't get any better than this!!!

  • His name is Allen Sloan, in the early days of the Dregs the guys were influenced by the Mahavishnu orchestra (John Mclaughlin,Jerry Goodman,Jan Hammer,Jack laird,Billy Cobham) but then turned into musical monsters of their own calibur.Oh by the way check out Jerry Goodman and Jan hammers album Like children.

  • ure right wildkofta :)

  • easily the coolest thing about moi is that i can say

ive saw dixie dregs as a 20 yr old in the late 70s

does that fact get me laid?

no not all that often but it's still pretty cool i think

  • @JustAintthatWay oops ... 'i saw dd ...' hey whadya want from an old white punk on dope?

  • Isn't that Jerry Goodman of Mahavishnu Orchestra on violin? Sure as hell sounds like him. No one plays violin like Jerry! Although I'm positive it's Jerry can someone confirm.

  • @wildkofta yes he is.

  • @wildkofta I was thinking it was atad McLaughlinesque

  • @wildkofta Jerry has been touring with the Dregs for many years, and is on studio album Full Circle. About 3-4 years ago they came thru Boulder CO and did Celestial Terrestrial Commuters - Goodman killed, and steve actually missed a bar with his jaw dropped during Goodman's solo.

  • @wildkofta Cept Jean Luc Ponty. Uh come to think of it. Goodman plays like ponty!

  • @wildkofta Wikipedia-In 1993, Goodman joined the American instrumental band, The Dixie Dregs, fronted by guitarist Steve Morse. Goodman appeared on one studio recording "Full Circle" (1994), and the live album "California Screamin'" (2000).

  • So...it spears that removing the sleeves of ones T-shirt could reduce "drag" and allow one to play faster!!!!

  • Good sound quality for a youtube vid. Good work. I remember listening to Unsung Heroes as a 16 year and being totally blown away. Top band! If you love this you gotta love Allan Holdsworth and Zappa.

  • @richardsharp75 ...Allan Holdsworth and Frank Zappa (rest his soul) are two of my all time favorite musicians! I like to see Holdsworth when he plays at the Baked Potato in Studio City, CA. It's such an intimate little club, but the best of the best musicians play there regularly. I saw the Dixie Dregs with the lineup on this video play a couple of times at a club called The Boardwalk in Orangevale, CA. What an amazing show they put on!!!

  • I've been a fan of the Dregs since I was eighteen...I bought "Unsung Heroes" in 1982...How they still rock!!!!

  • The pianist face at 2:06 worth more than mom

  • Black belt master shit!

  • DAVE LARUE FUCKIN RULES

  • This is just so awesome. THX for posting!

  • what kinda bass is that?

  • transport tycoon music!! dixie dregs rules!!

  • OMG what a band

    Awesome

  • yikes.....

  • Man that violin is great. Sounds just like a guitar. I thought it was Steve at first.

  • que wueno este tema!!

  • I wish I had discovered these guys sooner, they're all so immensly talented and insunc, I didn't even know you could do a pinch harmonic on a violin. Awesome!

  • Good Lord !!!!, I love them !!!!!, each and every one of them is awsome, too bad they didn't get the fame and recognizement they deserbed

  • I was fortunate enough to see the original Dixie Dregs almost 30 years ago... Those guys kicked some ass. I paid a whopping $4.00 for my ticket. Nowadays the ticket prices to see a barely talented band astounds me... WTF!The music industry is bass-ackwards these days... Pisses me off !!!

  • these guys are freaking awesome very talented!

  • omg dave larue!! what a solo and tone

  • holey shitake mushrooms! thats the most intense violin solo ive ever heard in my short life!!!!!!

  • @rockguitar82 you want to hear an intense violin solo, listen to Frank Zappa's "Gumbo Variations", there's two parts on youtube.

  • @BigBizzle27 / @rockguitar82 - For an intense violin (fiddle) solo you've got to listen to the one and only master, Charlie Daniels. Listen to The Devil Went Down to Georgia, which is a southern rock classic.

  • @JGBugs Ummm....While Charlie Daniels is a good fiddle player, Jerry Goodman is a national level violin player. Conservatory trained, he plays on an entirely different level than CD. Listen to his playing on 4 Mahavishnu Orchestra albums as well as Dixie Dregs and you'll understand.

  • @beeroosterm - I wasn't trying to compare Charlie Daniels to Jerry Goodman. I am well aware that Jerry is much more talented and skilled than Charlie. I was merely responding to the comments made by some regarding an intense violin solo. Whilst I agree that Mahavishnu Orchestra were in a different league to the Charlie Daniels Band, I still give CD a lot of respect. His guitar playing was also of very high caliber.

  • @JGBugs Well, you called him "the one and only master" - and them's fightin' words....

  • Loved this band and could never understand why Steve Morse would join Deep Purple, who I don't hate, but... Come on, Steve!

  • To make money...that's why. I wish he would quit Purple, but he admits, in an iterview, that he basically broke even with the Dregs and the SMB. I give Purple only a few years, before they slow down, and then we can have Steve to our greedy selves...again.

  • i love reading newbs comments on one of the most adventurious fusion bands ever.......i was lucky enough to enjoy them in the day.....and still do

  • @danstuart747

    "Metallers"?

    "Jazz"?

  • you have no idea^^ Metallers xD come on

  • :| texas... country!

  • Jerry Goodman from Mahavishnu Orchestra on violin! Saw this tour @ Pompano Beach Amphitheater, Florida. The excellent sound made my liver quiver!

  • most def too cool for skool.

  • too Cool For School

  • Well said

  • No it's dave larue .. it was the Satriani reference that confused me =)

  • IS that stu hamm on bass :O ?

  • ..essential jazz-rock...it`s all

  • You guys are kidding right?

That is NOT Andy West and he certainly is NOT playing a bass (3:40).

LaRue is good but he is not a Bass Innovator like Andy was.

  • You know what? Andy is an innovator, you're right....but as much as LaRue might not be great with the fans, he's a fucking REMARKABLE bassist. I put him up there with the greats.

  • That IS Andy West. This concert is from their 2000 Dregs/Steve Morse Band tour and everybody from both bands is on stage (except I cannot tell if the drummer is Van Romaine or Rod Morgenstein - probably Rod) Andy has had a shaved head for years and is playing (as always with a pick) a 6-string bass in this video. I wrote to Andy a few weeks ago (he has his own website) and he wrote me back, apologizing for taking so long to respond! Great guy, awesome player!

  • Comment removed

  • oh, and it's pretty easy to see that the drummer isn't Van Romaine 'cause he's a right hand player and, like we can see on this video, this drummer is left handed... like Rod, so I'm going for the Rod option

    ;)

    regards!

  • oh s***t that's a great song and an epic performance

  • Holding my Blue burst Music Man Steve Morse! Enjoying!

  • Like wise. I saw these guys warm up for Kansas at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City in 1984. Totally awesome Concert. Have enjoyed everytime I've had the oportunity to hear them.

  • stars please!!!!

  • been a Dregs fan for more than 25 years now ... its great to watch this vid

  • Once again: great to see Andy West. Well, sort of...

  • Comment removed

  • Did you say Andy West? Fuck, I think I saw another dude playing something... That's him? Are there 2 basses in this song? Fuck! :)

  • Yes, it's Andy. Look at 0:45 - that's him playing bass (with a pick as usual) Wish Dave and Andy had played dueling bass solos. Can't wait to see Steve Morse Band in a few weeks in his mini-tour of the east coast promoting their new CD (Out Standing in Their Field) Christ, I sound like a promoter, but Steve hasn't played around here in over 4 years and I have to catch him while I can.

  • Hope u got a chance to see Steve on his Mini tour---I caught him in Philly and stood 5 feet from him for 2 hours---He's rediculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I most certainly did see him - at Toad's place in New Haven. Amazing show, and I was able to say hello to him and chat him up afterward for a few minutes as he signed one of his new CD's for me (also got Dave and Van to sign as well) Steve and Dave also gave a free guitar/bass seminar in Manchester, CT the day before for a few hours. The guy never stops working and continues to be the most friendly and accessible musican out there, despite his extreme guitar hero status.

  • Been listening to the Dregs for a long time, never heard this one before they always amaze the hell out of me!

  • sick.

  • need a lot of knowledgeable to understand this song... :)

  • jejejeje :D

  • Excellent performance!
