Japan's atrocities in China were documented and reported in the press as they happened. Microfilm of the old articles and news reels old newspapers are in libraries. 2) Timperley was in London when he published the book, which details the Japanese war atrocities during their occupation of Nanking. The Nationalist party of China worked closely with Timperley in bringing the war crimes of Japan into perspective for the public.

The San Francisco Treaty in 1951 served officially to end WW2, to end formally Japan's position as an imperial power, and to allocate compensation to Allied civilians and former prisoners of war who had suffered the Japanese war crimes. Also, the treaty shows the allied powers and Japan will never condemn each other for performing acts during the war also.

Then they deprived Chinese inhabitants of plain clothes .Thus the Chinese soldiers violated the international law "Hague Convention on land warfare " as the plain-clothes soldiers . @SOVIETasTheINVADER Massacre – “savage, unnecessary, indiscriminate killing”. Does the specific number matter that much? The usual figure given for Nanking is around 300,000. If they are off by a factor of ten and only 30,000 died does that make it better? What if the estimates are off by a factor of 100, is 3,000 ok? That is still more people than died on 9/11. How about 300, should we give them a pass if they only slaughtered 300?

@Gyrocage China has no right to accuse Japan of crimes such as the Nanking Massacre because the massacre was made up story using fabricated evidence. Obviously what China says is pure fiction! Demonstration of this fake story by the Chinese government is libel and slander. It is natural that Japanese raising an objection.

One of the foundations of the massacre myth is based on the book which is called "What War Means", edited by Harold Timperley. But he was an advisor to the Chinese Nationalist government’s Ministry of Information. The section was propaganda section which was established by KMT (Kuomintang, Chiang Kai-shek) in China during the War. Timperley was paid by the propaganda section for writing the book.

He made exactly one mention of the Battle of Nanking during a lecture delivered at Yan’an six months after the conflict, reproduced in On Protracted War. Chairman Mao criticized the Japanese for failing to annihilate Chinese troops after having surrounded them.

According to the top-secret document entitled “Outline of International Propaganda Operations,” the IPS held 300 press conferences in Hankou between Dec 1, 1937 and Oct 24, 1938.

Records of the International Committee’s activities were published in 1939 as Documents of the Nanking Safety Zone by a British company in Shanghai, under the auspices of the Nationalist Government’s Council of International Affairs. According to those records, the population of Nanking prior to its occupation by the Japanese was 200,000.

They include a total of 26 murders, only one of which was witnessed (to that account is appended a note describing the “murder” as a lawful execution). Also, recent research has proven that there is absolutely no basis for the claim that there was a massacre in that city. How does China claim that 300,000 Chinese were killed by Japanese?

Japan's atrocities in China were documented and reported in the press as they happened. Microfilm of the old articles and news reels old newspapers are in libraries. That the Japanese Army engaged in barbarism through all of Asia is incontrovertible. I recall hearing the 80 year old grandmother of a friend of mine recall seeing Japanese troops in Singapore burning the hands of a child and laugh. I doubt that she was part of some 6 decade long smear campaign any more than was Iris Chang.

The Chinese plain-clothes soldiers that had the ability to shoot Japanese soldiers,were very dangerous terrorists .The conducts endangered the rule of the war and Chinese citizens. They weren't soldiers but war criminals.Therefore, they were not protected in Hague Convention.

@juliusmitsui (Part1)The Tungchow Mutiny was a cruel massacre because Chinese killed many nonresistance Japanese and Koreans civilians in Tōngzhōu, China on 29 July 1937.
The slaughterer Chinese killed them mercilessly; the way of killing and torturing was the same as the way of time-honored custom in China. Definitely, Chinese inhumanity killing ways and means was handed down in Chinese traditionally. The other nationalities might aren’t beyond the conception such as Chinese style.
