  • Cool and interesting. Many thx for upload

  • hideous.

  • Strange way to lead into 'Everything in its Right Place'...

  • Not so much a cover as it is a reference. Thom will often sing a snippet of a song before "Everything In Its Right Place" so the others can test the sampler and other vocal effects. He did the same thing with "Maps" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs at Reading '09.

  • @fancythathat nope

  • I think the Manics take influence from fellow 90s bands like Radiohead and Oasis - both of which Manics are huge admirers of. Although Radiohead and Oasis deservedly got the attention for their great music. I do agree that Manic Street Preachers are the most underrated band of the 90s.

Anyway, why is it assumed both bands hate each other now?

  • short and beautiful :)

  • It's not a secret that Radiohead admires the Manics, or at least did so...

In the booklet included with the 'The Bends' album, Jonny can be seen wearing a Manics T-shirt.

Perhaps they're not too fund of the Manic's musical style departing the earlier almost lo-fi alt-rock as heard on 'The Holy Bible Album' and harsher punk/rock style from 'Generation Terrorists'.

It has to be admitted that their overall style turned way more 'poppy' after the tragic disappearance of RJ Edwards...

  • @ThelemicMagick Jonny isn't even wearing a shirt on the photo of the booklet.

they didn't really show much interest in the Manics at all. that is not to say that they don't like their work, they just never shown it to the public except for this short bit.

  • @ThelemicMagick I believe there to be a Bends era interview where Thom talks about Richey and seems to admire him. Blames the media for his disappearance too.

  • @icecreamscuseme you know your stuff!

"I thought that basically it was the British press that did it to Richey. Full stop. Although I've got lots of friends who are journalists, the few who I think were basically responsible for him having a breakdown I will always hold responsible and I will always see what we do in that light."

He pauses again, leans forward, holds his hands in front of his chest and slowly, deliberately concludes: "And I think he is still alive."

  • @basman2006 Well, I and many wold certainly prefer to believe Richey is still alive. When was that interview done that you quoted Thom on? Ok, I just saw 'Bends era'... Doesn't that suggest he either hasn't contacted any people close to him, which seems impossible, or thy are deliberately shutting up about it. It's made me very distressed in the past, but I'm not a major fan. Hope he's in peace, wherever he is.

  • @ThelemicMagick You're right, but every album before Know Your Enemy is a flipping masterpiece.

  • @Colliermoose

I agree... except for 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours'...

Surely it was a huge commercial success, and I can even see how lots of people consider this album to be great... But masterpiece...?

    Nahh...

Wire's lyrics are still genius at some points, but musically I don't think they distinguished themselves enough in comparison to other pop/rock bands to call it a masterpiece...

  • @ThelemicMagick Fair enough. Personally I think it's a logical and spectacular follow up to Everything Must Go. The second half of the album may not be as jaw dropping as the first half, but the songs Black Dog on My Shoulder and SYMM really make up for that! It's also the perfect starting point for people who are new to the band. It may not be their rawest album, but it's a damn good installment, encapsulating the end of their 'classic' period (lol 500 characters ISN'T ENOUGH).

  • Radiohead and the Manics hate each other now.

  • @lashtastic They do?

  • @lashtastic lol why?

  • @lashtastic WHY?

  • you can't really call it a cover ... he's always singing lyrics of different songs before Everything in its Right Place live, i think so that Jonny can get some vocal samples before they all start.

I mean, just saying, because everybody gets pissy, expecting an actual cover of the song. I still love it all the same. Very awesome that they like the Manics!

  • @reCupcake I wish it had continued on to radioheads song after this intro-sample!

  • this is a really bad cover by radiohead (N)

  • But they're doing it on purpose...

  • why?

  • Manics in Boston on October 8th!!

    Can't wait!

  • were they any good?

of course they were why did i even ask :L

  • I don't hate them.. but i think that kind of ruined it.

well the end part did for sure...

i mean it wasn't really a cover was it..

  • its not really a cover in all honestly, when they put on a little show of 'everything in its right place' during a live show thom usually spruce's it up a little by playing a tiny segment of some song or other prior to it kicking off, just like paying a little homage to a good band.

  • Nice to see Radiohead at least acknowledge the manics, who are the most underated British band ever.

  • apart from reef :)

  • The best two bands ever the Manics and Radiohead. Both amazing lyrics.

  • V.V

    Bloody hell Thom!

  • I love Radiohead. and I love the Manics.

but this... is not that good. :|

  • I hate people you go 'WOOOOO'!!!!!!! @ gigs

  • Wow. You must lead a pretty content and happy life.

  • Sorry Thom but that kinda sucked!

  • It is not actually a cover. He is just improvising over the intro to everything in its right place

  • That was terrible.. butchered :|

  • Cool, I thought this was going to be like the time they covered Wonderwall and ripped the shit out of it, but no thankfully! I love both bands. Great to see they have respect for each other. Msp and Radiohead I mean not Oasis!! But it wasn't really a cover was it, twas just a different style of intro y'know....

  • no no nooooo

    they ruined it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love Radiohead. best gig I've ever witnessed when I saw them last year

but this was BRU-TAL to listen to

  • I love the Manics and Radiohead.

I reckon- if done properly- they'd do a decent cover.

  • crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap....totally ruined a great song

  • AWFUL!

  • I'll second that!

    Very bad!

I think Thom Yorke should stick to his own songs.

  • He's just havin a bit of fun. It's actually kinda cool how he uses matches the lyrics onto the opening of Jigsaws falling into place.

  • Although being so different, "Tolerate" and "Everything in Its..." somehow fit perfectly. I always like it, when one of my fav bands likes another fav band :D

  • cool! where and when did this happen?
