Yeah exactly, they are so experienced I'm sure they don't really need the shift lights. The Redbull wheel is really clever as the driver is so low down in the car I bet they can see like 20% more of the track than everyone else due to that unique shape, looks comfortable to hold too.
The 2010 RB6 wheel appeared smaller since the shift lights and LED gear indicator were mounted on the cockpit sill (just below the tiny windscreen on the nosecone). The McLaren wheel includes these elements, so it appears bulkier on the upper half.
@BobbyKubizer I think it can be a problem with the Red Bull solution of the shift lights because if you accelarate in a fast left corner (like turn 8 in Istanbul e.g.) you can't see the blue shiftlight as your steering wheel and right hand are in front of it.
@LYFDDT True, but this is where experience comes in, knowing the track and when to change gears at certain points on the track, and of course, listening to that glorious engine lets you know when to shift up.
@LYFDDT no they do. theres a beep in the ear when to shift up. Martin Brundle tested a pirelli F1 test car and he had the beep for when to shift up and he said how useful it was :)
did they just misspel McLaren at 0:25 ?

That steering wheel is someone's salary for an entire year.

Amazing evolution. Cost of Hamilton's steering wheel is enough to get you a Porsche 911! Whoa!

@preheatedstraw I think the drivers don't shift up by ear as they are used to the mclaren shiftlight. It's more difficult to shift by ear.
