@piuoss There is a new RODE accessory which attaches to violin strings so recording stringed instruments is actually something that the lavalier works well at. Jump over to the RODEMIC website and check it out.
would this work to record a convosation between me and another person with one person wearing one? and does it come with a 3.5 mm jack connector? or do i have to buy it
@bossman12334 Yes, you would need to place the lav lower on the subjects shirt to balance two people standing close. The RODE lavaliere does come with the 3.5mm jack at dvestore.com
Hi, do you know how to connect Countryman EMW lav to Zoom H1? I don't know which one to get, because there are different 1/8" Mini Connectors available with the EMW lav.
@mastersid Just tested, you'll need to Use coupon code "INUG0D03H89" with the Micon 2 and RODE Lavalier in your shopping cart. The cart with then show -$18.00. Hope this helps.
@RobertIgoTV Thanks for asking. The Tram is a bit dry sounding when compared directly. Chad Johnson has a video up, if you google for Rode lavalier Tram TR50, you find it. The RODE lav sounds closer to the $379 COS11 and it costs much less, plus has the ability to jump from XLR to wireless quickly with the Micon connects.
@laughingcrows The Zoom H1 is acting as a pre-amp to bring the levels up, just as any recorder, camera or wireless device would. The Zoom H1 just so happens to do it cleaner than a lot of other recorders would. Especially at the $99 price for the H1.
@dvestore Cool, thanks for the info. I went ahead and bought one from you guys. Along with a location package 4, a mixer and some other stuff. I'm terribly pleased with it all :)
I've just bought the same setup (Rode Lav / Micon2 / ZoomH1) but can't get a signal from the mic. Is there something I need to do for the H1 to send power out of it's mic input socket?
Great video :) Thanks - we are currently using a Canon HF10 that has a 3.5mm microphone input socket. What is the cheapest option that you would suggest using to power the Rode Lavalier?
Great great review! thanks heaps, i am Australian based, and i have just purchased a rode Lavalier mic, with a micon2 connector to plug into my H1. just to recap, you did use a DVcreator line that connects into the left side of the H1 and streams through your 3.5mm input on your 5D??? I would like to purchase the same set up you had for this review.
This might be a stupid question. But when you recorded the sound through the zoom h1, plugged into your canon 5D. Did the canon record and capture the sound? or did you have to sync the audio in post?
@richokyle We recorded the sound to both the H1 and to the Canon 5D Mark II. The sound was synced in post. To get clean levels into the camera, we used a DVcreator Line to Mic cable. To still hear the signal, we used a Hosa Y cable to split the headphone out.
Hi, I really like your informative videos. I'm in need of a Zoom and I'm going to purchase the h1. I just have a questions I hope you have time to answer. Do I need to feed into a Juicedlink (or similar pre-amp) if I have the Zoom set up as you do?
@drummingriver In this example, we're feeding the RODE Lav directly into the Zoom H1 - no additional pre-amp and it sounds great! If you decide to get an H1, drop by our web site dvestore.com and use the coupon code 'youtube'
Question: how would this mic work for action shots?
I've got an upcoming project - me as the crew and three actors running around a mountain top. Going wireless would make it SO much easier but I"m worried about picking up clothes rustling around and all that.
@laughingcrows Lavs are used in films when the shot is very wide and a boom mic would be in the shot. The trick is to properly mount the mic and secure the cable to avoid unwanted rustle. It's a challenge with varying wardrobes. Google for "rycote undercovers" and search here on youtube for lav rigging tips. Good luck!
I use the Audio-Technica 700 Series Pro wireless UHF system with several headsets and one Lavalier. I wish I could have afforded that one due to the size and accessories. on my budget I can only use what I currently have for doing reviews on youtube. but if I could I would like loved to test this one out.
@BMSWEB Great! If you order at dvestore, in the comments field put "Free Micon Connector Per Guy" in the Comments field and I'll make sure that you are taken care of.
@WelschVideo Nice catch, I wanted to fix it, however this was a project I had to get done fast and had a very limited amount of time (4hours!). The scan line was way worse at 24p, so we (I) shot at 30p and still had a slight rolling. On a more professional "video" camera, we could have used syncro scan to dial in the exact frequency. The Canon 5Dm2 doesn't offer such a luxury at this time. We're actually looking for a new part-time shipping manager in Seattle, any interest?
@elevn7 Thanks for the comment, glad to hear that you enjoyed the vid. Were you able to watch it in the highest quality 1080p? I'm curious to how Canon 5D 1080 30p footage streams for everyone out there.
@dvestore I initially watched in 480 but I just tried the 1080 and for the most part it looks great and streams with no problems. I do see a soft boarder around the frame, I'm guessing a filter of some kind was applied as an effect.
has anyone tried this mic inside an acoustic guitar (its certainly small enough)?

hi again,
sorry I'm not even sure what camera you were using. but would it be able to stream through, say a canon 7d or 5d??
cheers again.
