  • I do agree with poster "weightfeather1", that "we don't see the likes of folks like this today." They were indeed "showbiz giants."

  • I think I grow more hair on my knuckles than Buddy's got on his whole face! If you listen carefully, you'll catch Bob making a comment to Buddy about his beautiful new beard putting him "in the rough"!

  • No matter how hard she tries, I've never ever seen Lucille successfully disguise her voice. It's just too distinctive!

  • Two true showbiz giants. We don't see the likes of folks like this today.

  • Is this great or what? You would never see this today with the celebrities we have now.

  • Bob and desi were the only guys that Lucy felt comfortable performing with..

  • love hpw she always gets alot of applause. the panel always notices it lol

  • Miss Ball looks beautiful,radiant!

  • At one point Lucy looked like she was gonna cry & Bob hugged her...awe. ;)

  • Well that was the quickest I ever seen them guess it right.

  • woot UC alum right here!

  • It had to be Lucy's husky voice. Pretty hard to disguise.

  • Great book that was too...

  • i think this is her loveliest look ever.

  • wait what year was this?

  • What a charming, intelligent show, and the guest stars were the greatest.

  • third best signing in after dali and liberace

  • lol that was quick!!!! i wish i could see critic's choice or the facts of life here... they were on... it sucks that they took it off :( I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!! :)

  • Bob Ball and Lucy Hope !? WHAT !? hahahahaha, they're crazy. <3

  • hahaha... that was funny.

  • Mr. Daly practically ignored Lucy and poured over how great Bob Hope was. Seems sexist to me. Maybe im looking into it too much.

  • One word: Class. Sadly lacking - All I have to do after a rough day is bring up your downloads of this great show and suddenly I don't feel so bad. Tks Norbert.

  • bob ball and lucy hope. lol

  • They always get Lucy so fast because of the timbre of her voice.

  • @CrimsonFlameRTR what's a timbre?

  • @julieandrews9 Hi, It's the type/quality of sound that comes out of a voice or instrument. Think of it this way. Pretend a trumpet and a saxophone are playing the same note. The reason you can distinguish both of them, is because they have different timbres.

  • Could tell Lucy after the first :"YA" since she used that voice often in "I Love Lucy".

  • I love Lucy to death, but for me, Critic's Choice was a slow starter that never quite got going. I much prefered their collaboration in The Facts of Life.

  • Bob & Lucy made a GREAT acting team (I think they made four movies together: Sorrowful Jones, Fancy Pants, The Facts of Life & Critic's Choice (in addition to many TV appearances together, of course). THANKS for sharing this charming clip with us! :)

  • The movie came out in 1963 I think!

  • Anyone else wish they talked to Lucy a bit more? lol

  • More talent, grace and class sitting behind that desk (and I include Mr. Daly) than there is in all of Hollywood today.

  • @wickedcoolally Absolutely...

  • LOLZ! I just wanna be friends with these two!

  • that was way too easy ha ha

  • These two are hands down, The KING & QUEEN of Comedy! They have such great Chemistry! Thanks for Posting!

  • WHAT YEAR WAS THIS??

  • Film Critic's Choice ...mid April 1963 ---

Never have I seen Buddy H. looking as thin as he is here ????

  • very entertaining. they should bring this show back.

  • What's My Line was a fun and entertaining show. I dont think if it ever came back that you would get the same feeling with today's Stars. Can You iMagine if they brought those two Bubble headed nit wits who are married to each other Spencer pratt and Heidi Montage came on as a mystery guest? LOL The charity that gets the money for that segment would be the only one to benefit since these two who consider themselves "stars" would never be guessed since they both lack substance. :-) ciao

  • @uncoverbrother Yeah right stars today would never do this. They can sit in their PJs and teleconference to promote their crap. :(

  • How did they figure it out so fast?!

  • i dont know but that's amazing right?!

  • They knew who was in town to open different shows.

  • @RandaMoody cause they weren't too good at disguising their voices.

  • @RandaMoody Because Dorothy, Arlene and Bennett kept up with who was in New York to plug an upcoming film.

  • They make quite the pair! Love them both!!!

  • They were really good friends!! I wish they had been married.

  • Buddy Hackett!! ITS A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD!! HELLLLLLP!!!!!!

  • Check out the clip the Academy posted of these two presenting together at the Oscars just before Lucy died. They obviously loved each other very much but in a totally professional way. Funny that Bennett uses the word 'exploit' instead of publicize or plug. I guess that meaning has changed over the years.

  • The simple fact is 99% of all of the mystery guests agreed to use WML as a vehicle to publicize what ever theatre arts media was coming up at that time- That is why it was scheduled for Sunday Nights- of course when WML began in 1950 , performers were "asked" to appear, by this time some studios would "push" producers of WML to promote their films...Bennett seems to be making it clear Bob & Lucy pulled strings for this spot-so the panel became second fiddle instead of the stars of the show

  • And now the talk shows have turned it into a de facto publicity stunt. Whatever happened to those shows who just brought people on because they knew the art of conversation?

  • I have zero use for David Letterman he has lowered "the bar" and placed it firmly on the ground.., a real shame , he is void of the distinct "class" and integrity which set Mr. Hope & his peers on the pedistal of admiration by just plain folk- I view the mass of defacto self-indulgent actors of today as a kiddy pool of floundering guppys ...They strut on the red carpet , but they are all empty non return bottles , no deposit no return paper dolls with nothing inside ...no soul...

  • The WML Clip with Bob Hope & Lucille Ball were The Stars, but I never seen or heard of either Bob or Lucille steal anyone's Thunder. Thes Panalists weren't the stars when the Mystery Guest came on. The Blind folding of these Panalist where to guess who the Mystery Guest was and Usually it was a Huge Celebrity. If Bennet thought that then he had other issues. But I didnt get that impression. They all seemed Genuine

  • bob hope never dated lucille ball people need to learn there facts children, he was married like 15 years b4 this show even started and his wife is still alive today

  • Did Bob Hope? Did Lucille Ball? Does Tom Cruise? Was Marvin Gay(e)?

  • This weird. How come this show was so long?

  • Wow, Barney Frank looked so young and that beard looks great on him.

  • That was Buddy Hackett.

  • ummm, yeah.

  • Thanks for posting these WML clips. It is such a treat to watch these people from the past in an unscripted setting.

  • the panel was not clued in to guess faster,.

  • Anytime she's on WML? they guess it so easily lol.

  • Love them both!

  • that was fast!

  • talk about your All-Stars on WML!

  • Were they dating??? Bob & Lucy???

  • I think they were just good friends, but maybe I'm mistaken.

  • They never dated. Lucille Ball went to Hollywood in 1933 as an unknown dancer for MGM musicals (Bob Hope was Paramount). Bob Hope was happily married to Dolores Hope from 1934 to his death in 2003. Lucille Ball was married to Desi Arnaz from 1940 to 1960 and to Gary Morton from 1961 to her death in 1989.

  • Bob was married all those years, but that doesn't mean he didn't take time out for any extramarital affairs. He was involved with Marilyn Maxwell around 1950.

  • I must say, aside from the knowledge. I'm glad to see at least someone spelling it correctly- mistaken. Versus incorrectly- mistaking.

  • Dorothy could be such a killjoy.

  • I second that wholeheartedly. She doesn't know how to play the game for entertainment purposes.

  • Aww, Dorothy is soo beautiful in this video, and I just love her hair!

  • OMG how did they get it so fast!!?!?

Haa Bob Hope AND Lucy Ball all in one!! That is awesome... :D

and lmfao at the geritol ad.

  • the two of them were so cute together.

  • Bob Ball & Lucy Hope

    hahah, too funny

    Classic!

  • i think I finally figured out an adjective to describe the legendary talent here...the word Olympian comes to mind. They definitely were in a singular class...

  • LEGENDS always stars both of them soooooooooo funny i love lucy xoxo catt

  • 2 comedy giants rip

  • Their voices are hilarious :D &They were both so funny, lovely to see them together.

  • Oh I do miss her. They were hilarious together. Such a comedic talent the 2 of them. Lucy came to life in front of the camera.

  • 1963. Blindly all-star. Buddy Hackett. Bob Hope's last WML appearance. Lucille Ball. Her second appearance on WML in tandem with someone else.

Dorothy Kilgallen had just returned to the panel (missed 10 of first 18 broadcasts of 1963) after her hospitalization and recovery for substance abuse. Thus why Hope's question to DK as he walks down the panel.

  • It would be interesting to know how you know this, since no intelligible audio of what he says is presented.

  • You have to really listen, but after they say hello and she sits again she says, "Yea, I'm doing fine." And this "soulierinvestments" person knows a lot about this time period. He/she leaves a lot of facts all over youtube under What's My Line videos and others having to do with the late 50s and on, so I'm not surprised that he/she knew about this too. =]

  • Ah. Sorry if I offended you. I do appreciate your extensive knowledge, though.

  • Dorothy Killgallen had a substance abuse problem ??

Bet they didnt publicaly d;iscuss that in those days, like they do now.

I think substance abuse is how she died in 1965 or 66 ?

  • Tranquilizers and amphetamines were prescribed in great abundance in those days, but Dorothy's death is still surrounded in mystery. It's an intriguing and rather sad story. You should look it up.

  • i love these two, the perfect comedy team!!

  • Thank you!!! :)

  • What a pair! Two legends that will never be forgotton! I love them both!
