  • Heard about this on That Metal Show, had to check it out.

  • haha great cover artwork ;D

  • great cover! great idea! One problem I have with bruce dickenson, though he has a great voice with a lot of power, just too often he really struggles with pitch, its apparent in this recording and a lot of live performance

  • came here to check it out..nice but Tull has this beat (imo)

  • I thing first it was track 2 from the 1983 The Trooper 7" single.

  • @tempak no no I got the 45 is the B side of fligh of Icarus I got it in the 80s love it if yuo really like it i can sell it man antoniogiovannini74@hotmail.com

  • @1fiorentina I had it in the 80's on 45 with "The Trooper"

  • Great band! they took the Tull's song and made a Maiden song. Band with personality and musicality.

  • Cracking good cover. Look up the cover by Clutch too.

  • Que buen cover Maiden...larga vida a Jethro Tull y a la Doncella de Hierron

  • Some years ago, when I approached to metal, Iron Maiden was my favourite band. Then Jethro Tull became my favourite band. When I first heard this cover I knew there was something ;)

I think the Irons are a lot influenced by prog bands, Genesis above all. I love this cover.

  • I love this cover.

  • @GaTochWeg123 as they say, opinions are like assholes

  • @GaTochWeg123 suck my fucking dick ashole pennis cacduguet (:

  • @GaTochWeg123 well any true musician will agree that both are great

  • Holy shit Bruce!

  • In case you didn't know..This version of the Jethro Tull classic Cross Eyed Mary, was released in 1986 on a Japanease IMORT LP called ACE'S HIGH,with IRON MAIDEN on the cover written in Camouflage and evry othe word on the LP Jacket was written in Japanease..I used to own a copy but it was stolen....Damn it! Love this song and MAIDEN!!! I have some great Maiden Memorobilia I'm trying to put to a good home if your interested???PM me I'll give you details..

  • @skullcrusher94 Limited - yes, but I don't know how many are left. And you can call yourself pretty lucky cause they're indeed rare!

Maiden have produced 3 box sets:

    1. Eddie's Archive

    2. Eddie's Head (contains 15 CDs - each CD is an album they've released from 1980 - 1993.)

    3. The First Ten Years (consists of 10 parts. Chronologically, each part is from certain period. eg. Part IV - TNOTB sessions, Part V - POM sessions. Each part contains some studio & live songs from that session.)

  • @skullcrusher94 Do you mean how many Eddie's Archive box sets? or how many records does the box set contain?

There is only 1 Eddie's Archive. Featuring:

    1. The BBC Archives (4 Maiden concerts. Of which 2 with Di'Anno. It also contains one concert with Doug Sampson on drums).

    2. Beast Over Hammersmith (1982 Hammersmith performance)

    3. Best Of The B-Sides (almost all B-sides Maiden released on singles. The tracklist is listed chronologically).

    UP THE IRONS!

  • shivers up my spine.. 215 am. maybe its another ghostly visit lol love this music.

  • i just bought an iron maiden best of the B-sides T-shirt, couldnt resist

  • UP THE IRONS!!

  • And people wonder why Bruce's voice was buggered after 1984!, glad to see that he got some of his range back by the time he rejoined Maiden.

  • great stuff :D

  • its almost like ian anderson wrote this for maiden. just an awesome cover!

  • estos temas ni en el demo te vienen!!

  • Bruce kills the vocals on this song..I love this to death!!!!

  • well, i love maiden, but the original is way, way, way better

  • Steve Harris is God.

  • Only a Crystal Radio can give you the full sound you need.

  • Up the ipod!!!

  • FOR ALL OF YOU WHO HATE JETHRO TULL FOR THE GRAMMY AWARD TAKEN AWAY FROM METALLICA HERE IS IRON MAIDEN DOING A JETHRO TULL COVER

  • Besides the elf version, Dickinson has proven again that he can cover any tune and even surpass all expectations. Dio and Dickinson rule !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Jaloosifer it was awesome best day of my life!!! the day i got my ipod!

  • How about LP.........that's what it came out on you tossa's!

  • @Duckulafish bow to the vinyl. curses to the ipod!

  • thx for the return back in time ;) and the a side and b side were on lp too

  • i owned the 45 picture disc for this song, wish i still had it

  • This is not on Spotify!

How do we get it up there?

  • @sigudian

    who is spotify?

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen

    spotify [dot] com

  • this is better than tull

  • Ha Ha eddie ;D

  • This was the B Side to the Flight of Icarus single I do believe. A picture disc. Look it up!

  • In the old days of singles, the song you were "pushing" was considered the A side. Bands usually slapped another tune on the B-side that was either an album cut or later in the eighties you found bands putting covers on the B side. These were for vinyl singles, lp singles, picture discs,or as BMR666 said, a cassette single. See all the cool stuff you missed out on? This was origionally the B side to the Flight of Icarus single, I do believe.

  • i love both versions, but i think i prefer this version

  • B sides is the ass of eddie

  • B-side also means

    Bonus side i think

  • Mr Pedantic says that a cassette tape didn't have two sides. You play side one and it reads the top half of the tape, side two reads the bottom half...

  • @blackmetalrules999 Yes the magnetic tape cassettes have A sides and B sides and I do remember them all to well. But this is not what the B-side here is referring to. When you release a record you often do plenty more songs than is released, the best songs are actually put on the record and are called A-side songs, what is put in limbo is called B-side songs. Iron Maiden have made enough B-side songs to make a super album by picking the cream of their B-side songs. Covers often become B-side's.

  • @sigudian you snapped that cunt

  • @sigudian yeah that's what blue oyster cult means on burnin' for you...time to play B-sides

  • Comment removed

  • The other members of Iron Maiden were probably thinking when they recorded this in the studio together, 'Why the f**k did I let Bruce talk me into doing this lame cover version? I know he's really into Jethro Tull and all, but jeez..."

  • WHAT IS A B-SIDE??

  • @Janick666Gers are you joking?

  • @vidman520 no man...i am from greece and don t understand what a b-side is

  • @Janick666Gers The B-side is not the A-side, what number is the letter B in the alphabet?

  • @sigudian 2

  • @Janick666Gers B-side is lingo from the days when singles were released as 45 rpm records (ie vinyl). A-side would be the main track being released, and since it has a reverse side (i.e. B side), a secondary track would be chosen to go along with the main track (i.e the A side).

  • can't say I care for the vocals

  • the intro is stunning

  • I preffer the original version by far. Also this song was made from Ian Anderson to Ian Anderson, and any other singer can't do it the good as Ian can do, because HE IS JETHRO TULL. And it must be said, this song wotihout flute loses a big lot of cuality, the flute is Sacred in Jethro Tull, the electri guitars are not enough, the flute is necesary

Anyway this is a nice cover

  • Tambem nunca tinha escutado esta...

  • cool how they substituted guitars for the flute riffs in the begining...flutes are so fucking gay anyway....except the ones in stairway to heaven there was this one time in band camp

  • In Brazil at the time it came out in the Aces High Maxi Single (powerslave) a 5 song EP

  • what a good cover

  • I like both the same, both fricken Rock!!!

  • With all due respect to Maiden, their is just no comparison to Tull. Listen to the version on Tull's live album "Bursting Out" from 1978 to hear the definitive version of this song, IMO. Check out the intricate play between the flute, guitar, keyboards and drums. The songs starts out subtle and build to a complete climax. And notice the "space" between the notes in the main riff. Stellar musicianship there.

  • Now this cover is just as excellent as Tulls version!!! Rock on Maiden!!!!

  • Although I am not a Jethro Tull fan, I love Ronnie James Dio and Metallica all which I heard their versions of this song. I am convinced that this one by Iron Maiden is the best!

  • now im not dissing this cover i think its fuckin great i love maiden! however as a band i would prefer tull just because in my opinion their alot more technical and tight , and better live shows(back in the day) but thats just my opinion but dont get me wrong maiden kicks complete ass to!

  • Suicyco --- i had this version on an old picture disk. I forgot the A-side cause i had Trooper off the album. But always loved this version.

Wonder if those picture disks re worth anything. had a ton of them.

  • UP THE IRONS FROM FORTALEZA, BRAZIL

  • Had this on the 7'' single in the 80's was it trooper can't remember. Had them all, flight of Icarus, women in uniform, number of the beast. Remember losing my voice at the Power slave Tour, 15 years old at the time.

  • this song kicks nuts

  • Genial

  • Great cover! I loved it!

  • Now maidden doing jethro tull, is interseting ,this is better than maiden doing zepplin. This was worth listening to...

  • What do you mean, now Maiden doing Jethro Tull? If you knew anything about Maiden you'd know that Steve Harris was influenced by prog rock such as Wishbone Ash and Jethro Tull from the late 60s and early 70s. Also, this song was released as the B side of the Trooper.....almost 27 years ago...so your use of the word "Now" is a little strange

  • Yes because I just NOW have seen this for the first time, I have always liked both of them, but some how I have missed this!! Yes. so for the first time NOW, I am seeing this. So critical, I had to respond, sorry iam not the expert you are..

  • Sorry Dude, didn't mean to sound so critical. I guess it's just lost in translation and your first language isn't English. No offence meant.

  • @Suicyco always a rude comment eh , my language is english, real picky, I am a female. by the way,, this this is not english 101, its stupid u tube1

  • Hey Kodiac, my last post was an apology, why'd you think I was being rude? Also, dude can be used for girls too

  • Bruce was into Jethro tull.

  • Em Português, Maria Vesga.

  • dickinson 's voice is nothing short of a nuclear shock wave !!..fucking awesome !!

  • Up the Irons from the state of Washington!

  • fuckin awesome, I love jethro tull, I didnt know about this. Great 5 stars

  • UP THE FUCKIN IRONS,FROM FLORIDA

  • Wow, this is awesome.

  • this is nothing like the original, i love that, most covers always have to much imitation but this was great, plus tull and maiden are two of my favourite bands, piece of mind is in my opinion the best maiden album

  • thats the chance u take covering other bands songs u never know a fans response.i love that bands even do covers brave.

  • This is one of my favorite Jethro Tull songs. It's just incredible how Iron Maiden does this song, but you really have to have held the feeling by the original artist first. Jethro Tull does it with different feeling. Iron Maiden is riding the edge. I Love it all!

  • very good..nice bite haha

    tully

  • This is a great cover, but the Jethro Tull version is the best by far.

  • Nice cover, reminds bit of Piece of Mind era.

  • This actually IS from the Piece Of Mind era!

    It´s recorded in 1983.

  • Actually, this cover comes from Piece of Mind era :P

  • @higbegoih I think they recorded this cover around the piece of mind period

  • @higbegoih im pretty sure this song was originally released on the piece of mind bonus disk which is why

  • @higbegoih It was actually recorded during the Piece of Mind era. This song sounds like it would fit perfect on that album.

  • @higbegoih it is from the piece of mind era

  • @higbegoih i think they did this near the time they did piece of mind UP THE IRONS!!!

  • @higbegoih I think this was a Piece of Mind B-Side

  • @higbegoih thats cause it is :) it was the B-side to the trooper which was on piece of mind

  • @higbegoih thats because this was on the b - side to "the trooper" single, which was on piece of mind.

  • @higbegoih rofl.. it is from that era.. If I recall correctly it might have even been before... but it is in that general time frame. I had the 12" of it.

  • @higbegoih I have the original LP with this on it and it was on the back of something from piece of MInd!!! Good MAiden Ear bro!

  • B-Side of The Trooper

  • An old friend of mine had this on picture disc.

  • @trucker69orso yeah i had the picture disc as well. shit that was a loooooooooooooooong time ago!

  • what are you fucking saying???this si better than the original

  • This is awesome but the original is better :)

  • I personally like Jethro Tull's version better, but that's just my opinion.

  • Rarely do covers surpass the original song, however, this one comes damn close. I can't honestly say I have a preference. Depends on what I am in the mood for, really: Heavy Metal or Prog Rock.

  • You said it man! Damn right!

  • @TheMentosMan13 Yeah youre right but it actually depends which genre you prefer but I actually prefer Jethro Tull cuz Its my second favorite band hehe but I must admit that this one is pretty good :)

  • @TheMentosMan13 I liked the vocals of the original more, but other than that, this one is better.

  • @Justs99171 Gotta agree with you on that one, Ian Aderson's vocals really do suit it better.

  • this coming from a huge Tull fan, this is a great cover, amazingly well done, great job maiden, eddie would be proud, and so would ian anderson.

  • I don't think this song works very well as a metal version. The original version by Jethro Tull is much better.

  • this is AWESOME im glad my guitar club dude told me bout this

  • Bruce's vocals are really amazing!

  • Jethro Tull's is wayy better, sorry maiden fans :P

  • If you zoom in enough on this image i believe you can see a pair of... um... yeah

  • jethro tull´s cross eyed mary is the best

  • Very good cover of the alltime best band Jethro Tull.

  • Iron Maiden is awesome but Jethro Tull is the biggest band ever.

  • nice cover :D

  • can I import this into my i tunes!!!

  • huh!! eddies ass!!lol

  • dont you just wanna kiss it? i do.

  • My favorite version of this song is the cover by Clutch, It's on youtube. check it out. Maiden is cool I guess...

  • iron maidens amazing.

  • I agree, another perfect example is the cover of Doctor Doctor

  • great cover. bruce just sings an octave higher than ian. I think musically it works great

  • I don't really see why Iron Maiden made this covers, but I can tell is showing up to the world how good musician they are

  • same with your english

  • lanciasassi hai ragione... questa e bellissima ma per l'originale non esiste parola per dascriverla...

  • molto bella...ma quella originale è inimitabile! grande Ian Anderson!

  • This cover's actually a lot better than i thought it would be, specially the beginning. It works almost as well to have a guitar instead of a flute!

  • This cover is what got me into Jethro Tull when I was 14 can't remember which single it was on, back in 1984, the single must of been 2 years old then. Both great bands, great cover I like both versions. But I listen to Tull more now cause I'm old. Bruce was also a big fan of Tulls. Bruce was a big fan of Jethro Tull

  • I don't see how his voice doesn't fit, do people just not like BD?

  • Great cover. Both bands are kickass.

  • no there not!maiden are gods, and tull are for people who spend half the week in their shed at the bottom of the garden.

  • Or maybe both bands are phenomenal and just about perfect FOR THEIR INTENDED GODDAMN AUDIENCES? Idiot.

  • Wow 'whitewarrior251' are you serious!? "Jethro Tull is for people who spend half the week in their shed at the bottom of a garden"! And Iron Maiden covered their song so they must like Tull, therefor they spend half their week at the bottom of a garden!? God why don't you just think for one fucking second!

  • omg who said that,, cause, Jethro Tull was one of Steve Harris's biggest influences.

  • @whitewarrior251 Wow. You are beyond any potential degree of idiot that I have ever imagined... or exists, as a matter of fact. You have obviously have never listened to a whole lot of Jethro Tull. Bruce and Steve would backhand your sorry ass for saying that. Tull has been beyond brilliant over the years, comparable to Maiden, and beat Metallica. You are as thick as a brick.

  • One of the best covers.

  • amazing version! I always thought jethro tull are hard rock too!

  • I really like how maiden takes a song and makes a maiden song. This cover kicks ass!

  • Bruce's voice fits perfectly I think. This is an amazing cover.

  • Not a bad cover great fucking song.

  • Love the picture of Eddy!
