but the sound quality is something better than bad

  • mother of god

  • it always amazes me how so many criticize great masters as if they themselves could play better when if fact when u check their channel they either suck or have nothing remotely related to guitar on it(just stupid family vids...boriiiingg!Lol."too fast" is the classic response from those who cant even play the piece SLOW..Lol!what a waste of time on yt u should be practicing....those who can't....criticise..especially those who suck! • @deylite You're nothing but a chicken shit who wouldn't talk like that in the presence of my "overweight jungle

natives".We're not from the jungles, dumb ass.Do your research. You assume way too much by looking at a few

video's. Enjoy your useless scalp while you have it! Anytime you're in San Francisco and want to meet,I'm more

    that happy to accommodate you.

  • @CarlosMacMartin lol...i see u like to start with those who werent commenting to u in the first place with words like"go suck an egg" but u cant handle it when they respond back...thats called being a "Punk"lol...havent u ever heard the saying "don't start nuthin' won't be nuthin"? now go back to ur tribe and tell them i wont be home for dinner or the pig roast tonight because i have a Book to read..then explain to them what "book" means..;)

  • @deylite Again, you make a feeble attempt to insult me.I really wish you we could have this discussion in person and you'd quickly see that I'm not a punk.To put in simply you're a racist asshole who can only talk

trash behind your computer.I said nothing in regards to your family or people and yet you are so smart &

educated that you insult mine? You sir are a fool & a waste of skin.A true "Legend in your own Mind"

  • @deylite Yeah, who's the faggot? You need firearms don't you little man? Old fool,my saying "go suck an egg"

gave you no cause to insult me,my people,or my heritage. You are the mindless one here.Again, anytime you're in the SF Bay Area, bring it on..guns,knives,whatever.I triple dare you! I'll send you to meet Elvis for sure.Stupid MF!

  • A true master...enjoyed!

  • 124 people tried to do this and said "Fuck this shit i keep my guitar hero easy mode"

  • moche, sale, 2!

  • FLOPP FLOPP FLOPP it always sounds like that :D

  • USA,das Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten.

Da kann auch Eliot Fisk zum Star werden.

  • wtf 20 years training in the mountains to get to that point

  • Eliot has the balls to play with gusto! The wimps complaining are the kind of guitarist who use rubato, (and sensitive facial expressions) for EVERYTHING! In other words-- they need to cheat 'cause they can't reach those hard spots in time.

  • Mierda que arrecho...

  • It is unfortunate that there are insults posted here regarding Elliot's playing. He is like the Paganini of guitar, or the Steve Vai of classical guitar. Very brilliant.

  • @laserdudeman some people collect stamps, some have model trains as hobbies... as you can see on all of Eliot's videos on YT some make a hobby of watching and complaining about his playing... he doesn't care I am sure... too busy traveling the world, making music, teaching, and I am sure making a nice living. I wonder what all these complainers are doing? Nice comment laserdudeman! Eliot rocks!!!

  • this is actually pretty good..

  • extra notes, buzzy, choppy, etc, etc ..... another fine Fisk performance.

  • hahaghaalol

  • hahaghaa

  • Now kids, here's a game you'll enjoy - find alternate missing letters to describe

    (1) a dumb-ass lay and (2) a pathetic classical guitarist:-

    **IOT F**K

You have exactly 2mins and 12 seconds to solve this puzzle.

  • Ah man, he takes a fuckin repeat ... fuckin funny shit

  • This is one thing that Chuck Norris couldn't do!

  • That's supposed to be a hummingbird? Sounds more like a galloping raging farting bull in china shop...

  • amazing technique

but it's too fast and without feeling

  • si tan solo la claridad en su interpretacion fuese tanta como su velocidad..

  • Fisk always transmits anxiety

  • I can play better with a nail stuck in my penis.

  • @majav15mg first u must find it

  • @majav15mg hahahahahhhaahaha

  • jajaja bueno el es bueno pero no mejor que yoO! :D

  • wow... extremely talented you are sir.

  • Don't understand why so many players play that last diminished arpeggio so out of rhythm, the mighty Williams included.

  • I think that the increased tempo give this piece a fevered feel which I think is conducive overall.

I bet he would be an awesomely fun teacher.

  • molto venne

  • God I hate this guy... He ruins the music! >:(

    * And he reminds me of beer somehow?

  • @victorxb360

This is how you play after a few beers...

  • El Meaestro hecholo otra vez.

    Genio!

  • This is THE way to play this piece... (after reading the comments) I can't help myself to say : Can you play like this -- Ever ?

  • plese eliot fisk must you destroie this wonderfull piece!!

  • -What doe's that even meen ? I'm sorry but I don't really know what you're saying ?

  • eliots tecknik is bed and he dont understand the musik he play, my english is not good sorry for that.

  • He takes a lot of risks with his music and sometimes I find the result clunky (sometimes I find it shockingly awful). But when he gets it read it is f**kin' awesome. You need to have a few mavericks around - they can't all play safe like Williams. Besides no-one can play like Williams at all. A good mix of passion and technique is David Russell.

  • yes you have right.

  • @abby161919 Er ist sehr gut. Er versteht was er spielt

  • sorry but that peace was to hard for you.

  • This piece actually suits his playing.

  • Comment removed

  • he plays too fast

some notes are not well played

  • @xXCroChrisXx

    agreed

another famous guitarist that kills this great song by excessive use of speed and lack of interpretation

  • Didn't know raptor could move faster than the humming bird...

Usually don't like Fisk's recording. But Fed up with people saying "Oh..playing too fast so this is not a music types of whining..." Non sense!

  • It's not so much that he plays fast, the speed is fine.

It's the buzzing, brittle tone, sloppy legato, sweep picking things that shouldn't be so it all mushes together, wrong notes emphasized, lack of subtle playing.

Not all of those are in this piece but the 24th caprice would be a prime example

All he has is a hammer so he treats everything like a nail.

He's alright sometimes, this isn't his worst performance

  • Yea, he plays much sloppier compare to his recording CD I have. As far as the speed, sorry I was talking in general how a lot of people comment badly about if someone plays it fast when even though playing flawlessly clean. I don't know... the term virtuoso is missing in their vocabulary or just jealous...?

  • Right on the money.

  • Check out "Ricardo Havenstein" and "Gerret Lebuhn" on iTunes. They are students of Mr. Fisk...

    Great!!!

  • Great playing. 5 stars

  • Fisk is one of the best known Classical guitarists in the world for 4 decades now, and is flawless and can do what most can not. This vidio an example.

  • Comment removed

  • Look to the title of the music: The Hummingbird. This means that the music was made with the purpose of being played AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, like a hummingbird fly. So don't come with this talk "he played too fast, without feeling"

  • There is MUCH more to music than playing fast and barbaric. This is a humming bird not a raptor.

Too bad his technique is in the service of his ego instead of the music. I would not go across the street to hear him play. But you know people will be impressed with his gymnastics. . ..

  • gymnastics? are you sure about that?

  • sadly, there are too many ignorant comments on fisk.

  • no tone.................

  • Great job!

Stupid kids going around acting like they know what they are talking about? Pathetic. I guarantee they couldn't even touch that song.

  • i dont understand why so many people are bashing his playing--it sounds pretty good to me--everyone cant be a john williams, you know......i guess all the critics know what theyre saying with their 200 IQs and their virtuosic abilities...........LOL

  • well, the fact is that Eliot Fisk is regarded at the same level as John Williams, so when he butchers pieces he ruins the credibilty of the classical guitar.

    Paganini's 24th caprice.....nuf said.

  • Man, even the spice girls have more talent than this guy.

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, dude I dunno if u wanted to be funny... but, with all respect to Fink, of course... THAT was funny

  • It's true, he's a great master classical solo!

  • Coming from a guitarist, I have much respect for Mr. Fisk. Great stuff sir!

  • ignorant children bash eliot fisk, what a shock

  • The Best!!!:-):-):-)

  • Just compare with Marco Tamayo' performance. No more comment.

  • I can play this guitar today... =] Humphrey 87

  • superbly speed ..

well done Mr Elliot!, 5 stars !

  • the butcher

  • This man is not normal. He CANNOT be normal. The funniest of all is that he considers himself an artist/perfomer of classic guitar. Oh boy, oh boy...

  • I would love for all the critics to post videos on YouTude of their own playing. I'd bet Mr. Fisk would own those jerks after the first few notes.

  • Agreed! Fisk is great, he has great dynamics and intensity do his playing.

  • i think its cool that he plays everything to fast

  • medium performance

  • intentionally buthchering!!! again by Mr Fisk.

  • Que pulgar tan extraño.

  • Anyone who doesn't like this performance should post their own or grow up.

  • to be honest this is the worst performance of this piece i have seen so far

  • let's see yours

  • i am still learning it, but i would only play it in front of an audience if twas perfect

  • except for your own attempts of course.

  • Not really because i havent really performed this piece.

  • too fast. killed the melody.

  • Rubbish - Buzz-off!

His playing is always attacking and too percussive.

Mr Fisk always trys to get more volume out the guitar than it can give - start at forte and go up!

It's actually a disservice to the instrument itself - never mind the music.

Please don't listen to Mr Fisk playing Bach if you are already drepressed!

  • In spite of the obvious skill required to play at this lvel, its still a very flawed performance. It's not that Fisk is a bad guitarist, he just always plays pieces that are too hard for him...

  • oe loco, que buena descripción, me has hecho reír muchísimo hahaha "un poco más y sale volando el picaflor" hahahaha

  • another butcher job.

  • I have no clue who this guy is but according to the many appearances he must be appreciated. Today I listened to a few of his performances on YT and I noticed he likes to play fast stuff. But he is not always accurate in his fingering and sloppy play. What is this about? Does he get paid for the tricks he does on his guitar?

  • Hehehe :-) Same here.. I've only watched a few videos of him, but each and every one of them just gave the impression of him not really having practiced the pieces enough to be at the point where he should be performing them.

  • he has played this way for almost 30 years -- it's strange

  • Comment removed

  • Yes!

    You're right!

  • @robbiebax

    The humming is on heat

  • somehow Fisk always plays like he's struggling, which makes pieces sound like more difficult. Also the tempo doesn't sound uniform, and some times sounds like he adds additional notes which sholudn't be there. I like people playing with high-tech (e.g., Yamashita is one of my favorite player). But I just don't like Fisk.

    saludos

  • se esperaria mas de un guitarrista profesional.

  • Haven't heard a guitarist yet who doesn't portray a hummingbird as an extraordinarily aggressive little bugger; and there's was me fooled by all those wildlife programmes showing it to be small and delicate - as well as fast. This sounds like a woodpecker on speed.

  • I agree with BiggerTyrone. El colibri is meant to be played fast. And he is doing very well! At least at this one!

  • BiggerTyrone - Those jazz drummers would give him the boot. In too many places Fisk seems to slow down on the harder sections, and speed up on the easy bits. He lurches here, slows there - this is different to playing a controlled 'tempo rubato' for the purpose of expressively shaping the score. Other aspects to his performance were O.K.

  • que feo

  • PUTO TOCAS MUY MAL ...

  • I've seen Elliot Fisk live and his playing was rushed the whole time. His technique is awesome but the fact is he rushes most of the pieces he does. A master guitarist will make even the fastest piece sound musical and make it look easy while playing it. Elliot does not. If you don't believe me watch his instructional video The Segovia Style.

  • it seems someone in the the world must have fame some not

    but its not so good

    the sound is shit

i don t understand why but it is so

if some one tell me go and learn from this man i would say no

    but he is still good

  • and he is struggling like he's constipated.

  • bien, pero no era tan rápido.

Y porfavor... se nos muere Fisk.

Que toque por gusto, no porque si

  • His sound is dirty.

  • It's suppose to done very fast! It's English title is "The Hummimgbird", and the tune is suppose to capture the very very fast flapping of the bird's wings.

  • Slow down guy, what do you have to take a piss or something.

  • Damn! This is the Famous Eliot Fisk? WOW!!! I am so disappointed. I would think someone who has world recognition would play this piece flawless, I mean he is considered a professional guitarist, right?

  • este tema es dificil de tocar

    a esa velocidad

    muy buena interpretacion

    gran guitarrista de esta era

  • la alargo mucho y no era necesario... se veia ke sufria tocando pero mui buena interpretacion...

  • is he a self-taught player?

  • This is indeed a very difficult piece to play ,hence the precision and rythmic problems that mister Fisk seems to be experiencing here.Nice effort though...I find Marco Tamayo's version a lot cleaner and fluid even though he is playing it almost twice faster than this.Thanx for posting..

  • "mister" Fisk. :)

  • looool

  • Has anyone heard Kazuhito Yamashita play this piece? It makes Fisk sound slow (not that speed matters).

  • insane

  • parece que a mao esta cansando!

  • I do wish he'd slow down. The music would speak more clearly. Even if he slowed it down half it's better than rushing and ruining!

  • no me gusto ese ultimo tincazo,, queda improlijo

  • Just explain the "rythmic disaster" at 0:43. That's not the play with tempo, thats sruggling.

As I said it's not the issue of any argument, this is definitly such a bad performance, the only excuse, that this was a live performace (I guess), so he had only one try.

Anybody, who doubt what I'm saying, instead giving me a -1, watch Marco Tamayo's El Colibri.

  • I totally agree.

And indeed; Watch marco tamayos performance (the old one, the newly uploaded one is terrible compared to the first).

  • He plays so fast, it seems like he is in a hurry to finish and go. You don't need to play fast to prove you 're a good musician.

  • Actually, that's part of proving you are a good master of the classical guitar. But like you say. You don't need to. Is not all there is to it. There has to b e quality, feeling and effort.

  • I wish everyone would get along, its just music, and the more we fight the more "discord" we generate with those around us. Why balance only an argument on taste, Fisk, Segovia, Rodriguez all in different camps. Comparisons are not predictable forms of measure when it comes to understanding subjective struggle in delivery and presentation.

  • Yes, and if played well, they are beautiful music. This isn't. It's just slick, meretricious and poorly played in terms of musicality rather than mere technical virtuosity, which in itself is worthless. Only a snob would discount people's opinions in the terms of the previous post. By the way, the tune we know as "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" was good enough for Mozart to write a set of variations on it.

  • I've witnessed a master class in person with Fisk and he blows away just about anyone in terms of raw passion, skill, musicality, and overall performance. Only Segovia, Williams, Bream, and a couple others have done as much for the classical guitar as he has. Period. Now, stop bashing and start opening your eyes to one of the greatest teachers and performers of our time.

  • HA HA HA! Please stop! You're killing us!!!

    No really! That was hilarious!

  • sorry to say dude, anything I've heard this guy has play on youtube has been very sloppy.

I don't pretend to be able to play as well as him but you dont need to be an awesome player in order to here flaws you just need a good ear.

  • wish everyone would stfu with their ignorant comments

even if a bit sloppy its still very good and very difficult

how bout one of you loser post a vid of yourselves playing better?

    yeah thats what i thought...

  • In progress..

  • Yeah, after the second view, I'm sure, he must be drunk or I don't konw, this is a definitely bad performance, no doubt.

  • Tamayo plays it way better. I'm not talking about speed, here you can hear lots of dead notes, mistakes. I couse the feeling, that even I can play it better.

Tamayo is such a genious, after his one, it sound really redicoulos..

  • tobytobiasjones I had my doubts with Fisk too.

But when I heard him play live, it was a completely different Fisk(e.g great sound, musicality, clean technique in other words beautiful playing)that I heard.

When I went to other concert guitarist(of much greater stature)it was the exact opposite. Bad live performance but great "Cd performance" So the next time you want to comment on a guitarist, check him out live. Then you know what I mean. So enjoy some upcoming performances!

  • segovia said this guy is unique!! so assholes ..believe it !! segovia could never play like this guy!! he is a genius!!

  • ooo, waa waa, (sniffle) I don't like it cause it sounds different then the first time a heard it on a recoreding.

Open your mind. Try to take the positive from things in life. Just because something is "different" doesn't mean its bad.

To the next wise ass comment: "By different do you mean this and that mistake."

    Shut up you idiot

  • he does and always has kind of played like a student, going as fast as he can, in most of his videos thats all he ever does. And when he needs to sweep and is going to fast he ends up making things sound very sloppy. He has great skill he just plays things to fast that dont need to be.

  • Rhythmic disaster at :26. Watch Tamayo's version if you want to see this played fast, clean, and musically. He makes this look amateurish.

  • Sloppy as almost everything I hear him play. His guitar sounds always angry. I shifted to classical guitar from rock years ago because the music was angry no matter what you played. Fisk seems to have the opposite bent. He plays this like a student who has not been acquainted with what musicality is yet. I know that he can play very fast but this time he onverestimated himself. It's too much for him. Again I say: Sloppy. Thumbs down!

  • Dude...

    This is absurdly sloppy.

And I doubt seeing this live would make it a lot better.

No wonder your comment got marked as spam.

  • Although it is played with such a rush, it creates some sort of vigor and force, an thats good. Honestly, I would prefer it a bit slower.

  • In my opinion this is not a good version. The music does not flow with liberty and in his gestures you see the enormous effort. The way that Marco Tamayo or Pepe Romero play this piece is the way it should be. Clear dynamics, astounding speed as required and good tone tough.

Have you ever heard Murray Perahia suffering with Beethoven? Sophie Mutter making squeaks on Tchaikovsky? It's the music what matters.

  • this makes me think of a hummingbird flying around, just the impression Julio Sagreras wanted to convey (hence the name of the piece El COlibri- the hummingbird)... Fisk achieves this expectacularly

  • WOW PWNAGE!

  • ugh the negative comments make me want to vomit. its like an od on ignorance. if you criticize someone like elliot fisk you've been listening to too much rap. someone please disable comments on the fisk videos :(

  • This guy fucked it up at that speed.. the piece is played fast but.. this guy at that tempo!? ... damn dude! he doesn't have the skill or technique to play at this tempo.

  • tu puta madre eres dios!!!!

  • FISK: get a job , do something...

  • i am doing something is what he told me to say making more money than you.

  • yea he travels to play in international competitions, making thousands of dollras per concert plus he teaches as the head guitar instructor at a University.

where do you work? McDonalds? Do you even play guitar? JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP! PLEASE, you cant play better than him... WOW... what a dumbass to think you can talk shit on him... please post a video of yourself playing this piece we can see how great you are...

  • Yeah, he blew it here... This piece needs to be played real fast but his technique did not raise to the challenge in this case. Watch Marco Tamayo instead.

  • You people are idiots. Tamayo is Fisk's student first of all. It's not rare for the student to outshine the teacher. Fisk rips on Segovia after all. Second of all, Fisk is all known for his transcriptions, many of which are new. Such as the Rochberg variations which are a superb rendition of the original by the way. You critics are ignorant as hell. Get a life and enjoy the music. Fisk is a great guitarist, PERIOD!!

  • (your nuts are beyond your mouth crack them first before you can eat them )this is an old fisk retort.

  • I feel sorry for this guy. Definitely much skills but it's a hard world we live in and this interpretation does not belong up there. Superficial. Harsh comments for a harsh guitarist. Sorry. If you can make a living out of this though good for you.
