Both this and the phone-in-pocket "joke", are very similar to the writing and delivery styles of shows like Big Bang Theory, That 70s show, Two and a Half Men, etc.

The IT Crowd is a fantastic sitcom, and one that really does mirror earlier classic British sitcoms in a lot of aspects... for example, characters which are both likeable, but get into awkward situations where we can laugh at them... the fact that it's on a set with a laughter track There's just so many aspects about it which bring the classic sitcom in to today

What I was getting however, is that the IT Crowd revives that tired genre and rejuvenates it for the 21st century. I wasn't trying to 'own' you at all. And I'd argue Peep Show does more for the sitcom genre, though obviously in a very different way: by creating something fairly novel, rather than, as you say, drawing from the past. @ClawlessReaver a continuation from my first comment: I also fail to understand how the IT crowd revitalizes any genre, as from what I've seen, it seems remarkably similar to recent-but-earlier sitcoms, like Two and a Half Men and that '70s show (the execution of this scene is particularly similar to one you could find in either of those sitcoms; think Fez or Sheen's brother). But you don't have to convince me, I'm not going to watch it the show regardless and you're free to like what you want.

3) Graham Linehan is won of the best comedic writers of the last century and has won: 5 BAFTA's, 1 IFTA and 2 Writers' Guild of Britain awards.
