@tumblergurl, I actually recieved a full ride scholarship to that college for cheer. I was also coming from a different state. I cheered there two years...and yes, my skills have improved exceedingly.
@DreamNbelieveGYMNAST wait you just said colleges look for skills like arabians and fulls. and before that said don't you have anything better than a full?
if its for a try out video you would WANT to show the HIGHEST skill you have, not leave it as a surprise. leave a speacialty pass for surprise but not the basic skill. if that makes any sense.
I had 10 years of all girl, all-star experience. i was trying out for a college team, and had never stunted before, therefore the prep and extension. and tumbling wise, i was coming from all spring floors. the collegiate level is all on dead matt. so i had to learn how to tumble on a dead floor in a matter of 3 days.
i ended up making the squad i tried out at, and i'm going on my second year of cheering there! :)
You should consider hanging out with some break dancers. You'll expand your skillset better that way, cheerleading routines although it shows great testament to balance and strength. It always seems a little stiff and monotonous. Poms is so-so. But if you hang out with some freestyle dancers or bboys, trust me when I say your abilities will much greater improve. Keep up the good work regardless.
