Hello Mr. Gallen.. do you still have the footage of Dorothy Collins singing "Love & Marriage" in the wedding dress? I believe it was you who had posted it.. can't find it anyplace now.. really enjoyed it!
Perhaps that was the only silent footage available for this telecast ("hey, look, so it's some old film of immigrants getting off the boat- the way they're husting off that gangplank, it'll match!!"). Footage is also featured of an Edison-produced vignette {originally seen on "kinetoscopes"} of a "typical street robbery"...with the cop on the beat joining in on the larceny; things haven't changed much, have they? ("it MOVES, I tell ya'!!").
In the mid-'50s, Richard Hudnut, creator of beauty and hair-care products (including "Quick"), was the alternate sponsor of "YOUR HIT PARADE" [NBC, Saturdays, 10:30-11pm(et), following "THE GEORGE GOBEL SHOW" between 1954 and '57] with American Tobacco's Lucky Strike. This is from a 1955 episode, when the series began a long, slow decline due to changes in popular music {namely rock and roll, as teenagers, for example, rarely tuned in to see Snooky Lanson perform "Hound Dog" in 1956}.
"Quick" and "Longer-lasting" ?? When I was a lot younger, the girls used to tell me that 'quick' ISN'T always better !! Surely an oxymoron !! Nonetheless, a classic ad .. god how I miss those old-time commercials & associated TV entertainment. Nostalgia goes beserk whenever I view this stuff .... another great posting, TVD ...
